Canvassing?

edit

Please read WP:CANVASS. We discourage editors from seeking an editor to agree with them during a discussion. When you need more opinions to determine a consensus there are more neutral ways of doing that. As a matter of fact, why did you reach out to Cullen328? If you're a new editor (and that's a big if), he hadn't been part of the discussion on that talk page so I'm curious how you would know him. Chris Troutman (talk) 00:40, 18 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

New editor 2, your insistence at Talk:Adolf Hitler is becoming disruptive. After some five editors have responded to your proposed version of the lede, and have basically all said that it's too long and the present brief lede is better, you propose a change which consists only of lengthening your original proposal with the phrase "promoted fascism and militarism over Nazi Germany" in the second sentence.[1] I had some trouble even finding the difference from your original proposal. I'm sure you're not actually trying to wear people out, but it's bound to have that effect. Please take a look at WP:REHASH and respect the fact that consensus is against you. I'm saying this purely as an admin; I'm not going to offer an opinion on the different variants of lede — I don't have one — but I object to bludgeoning the talkpage in the way you have been doing. Please stop insisting. Bishonen | talk 23:01, 28 June 2017 (UTC).Reply

At the risk of drawing out the debate, 'Shonen, I do have an opinion on the lead of Adolf Hitler, and I think New account 2's first proposal is better than the current lead, although not optimal – but that's what debate is for. The other editors on that talk page need to start addressing the points raised by New account 2 and not just affirming how much more they like it as it is.
New account 2: you need to stop shifting ground. Your second proposal is too wordy and is much harder to justify than your first proposal. You will find that editors who frequent the talk page will be the ones who have worked on the article, getting it up to GA status, and will be resistant to change from outside. The only way to make any progress is to involve more people, and you need to be prepared or the possibility that it will not happen. Have a read of WP:Requests for comment, because that's the legitimate way of bringing more people's opinions into a debate. I would support a proposal to include mention of aggressive policies and oppression of Jews, but not to have the word 'Führer' repeated twice, so have a think about what you can justify if you intend to continue the debate. If not, chalk this one down to experience, and move on to other articles – there are still an awful lot that need improvements. --RexxS (talk) 02:15, 29 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
