Request reason:
Hello! I waited for almost a month before writing this post. In the meantime I read other articles to check if mine was different or against the guidelines that I followed when I wrote the article on my sand box. Someone blocked my account and cancelled an article because they thought it promoted something or someone. The article was based on a real person who was in charge of different business and my idea after I met him during a seminar was to "explain" what he did to relief the pain of his Country after a deadly earthquake in Italy. All the article was supported by magazines and newspapers articles. I avoided to explain in detail where is working now because I was worried about the guidelines for the promotion of brands. He is working for a fashion group and on Wikipedia there are a lot of executive or directors where their jobs and companies are clearly mentioned but I didn't in my article. My focus was on his experience in Ferrari and all the money raised for rebuilding schools and doctor offices after the earthquake. I'd like to be part again of Wikipedia I did my contributions because I think Wikipedia it's the vehicle of the future to develop culture and let the people discover other human beings and got inspired by their jobs. Thank you so much! NewYorkCity2000 (talk) 13:57, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
Accept reason:
With your agreement to not edit about Dolci for at least 1000 edits, at which point you can submit a draft to Articles for Creation, I have decided to give you the chance to prove yourself. If you have any relationship with any other subjects you edit about, I would suggest you be as open about it as possible, and use WP:AFC if needed, or you risk being blocked again. 331dot (talk) 20:54, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
So you've just met Mr. Dolci? Is that all there is to your association with him? Is he aware you have been writing this draft? Are there any other subjects that you want to edit about?331dot (talk) 14:08, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
Yes I met him couple of months ago during a meeting for another charity where his wife is actively involved. And yes he knows that my idea was to publish on Wikipedia something about the story he shared about the earthquake. So after I completed my research and collected all the information and articles, I sent him an email and he was surprised and at the meantime time he was "pleased" as he wrote to me. At this point I'd love to have your opinion as administrator to understand better if I missed something or if there are parts you can suggest to change about that article to make it complaint with the guidelines. So it can be published and I can learn more how to contribute more in the future with Wikipedia. Thank you so much!!
- The sources seem to largely if not totally consist of press releases(and some of the barely mention Mr. Dolci if at all), which are not acceptable for establishing notability as defined by Wikipedia. Wikipedia defines notable people at WP:BIO. The sources must be independent reliable sources that have chosen on their own to give Mr. Dolci himself significant coverage.
- I'm concerned more generally that- while you might not be Mr. Dolci's agent or representative- that you seem to be acting with his endorsement and as such you are too close to him to be able to write about him with a neutral point of view. Does Mr. Dolci understand that a Wikipedia article is not necessarily desirable? Any information about him, good or bad, can appear in an article about him as long as it appears in an independent reliable source and is not defamatory. This is why I asked if you want to edit about any other subjects, which you didn't really answer. In order for me to unblock you, I would want you to at least for a time agree to not edit about Mr. Dolci, so that you can develop an edit history and experience which might later permit you to write about him. If you don't wish to do that, I will leave this request open for another administrator to review, and if you can convince another admin to unblock you, I won't stand in the way(though I do not speak for the blocking administrator). 331dot (talk) 15:01, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
I really sorry I didn't understand if your question about editing other subjects were about the article or about other topics. I did some edits about other articles on Wikipedia in the past. I wrote about him and I don't know any possible implications good or bad. I wrote a part that is interesting and if someone else knows something good or bad I think it's the final goal of Wikipedia to develop information. For example I don't know his date of birth and his real age, if someone will edit I think it will ba a good contribution, but I'm not his representative or his agent, otherwise I wrote those information in the sandbox before to publish the article online. If you unblock me I can guarantee you I don't have to edit more about the subject. I'm not related I'm not the agent as I mentioned I'd love to have my account back that is my main goal right now. My other goal is to explain why I considered and I'm still consider the story of Mr Dolci contains valuable information for Wikipedia. About the articles I provided for example one article from Forbes - and we honestly can consider it a good and independent source, another was from the NIAF official website, NIAF, like Forbes, has his own page on Wikipedia as well and I considered an important Foundation important to support my article. For this reason I'd like to see the article published on Wikipedia. Also if you can check my history you can see I contributed to Wikipedia in the past and I'd love to continue to be part of this family. Thank you so much for all your time!!
- I would like to see some other opinions on this, so I will leave this open for now. If another administrator wishes to take action, they may do so without asking me. 331dot (talk) 15:29, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
Unfortunately, editing Wikipedia is full of pitfalls for new editors, and depressingly often someone who comes along to contribute in perfectly good faith finds his or her work being deleted, or his or her account being blocked from editing, because of things which they had no reason to know would be against Wikipedia guidelines or policies. It is perfectly possible to create a neutral article about someone one has met, but how to do it is not always obvious to a new editor. Even if someone sincerely believes they are writing neutrally, if the subject they are writing about is one they have a personal connection to it can be very difficult to stand back and see how their writing will look to an uninvolved outsider. My advice to new editors is that it is best to start by making small improvements to existing articles, rather than creating new articles. That way any mistakes you make will be small ones, and you won't have the discouraging experience of repeatedly seeing hours of work deleted. Gradually, you will get to learn how Wikipedia works, and after a while you will know enough about what is acceptable to be able to write whole new articles without fear that they will be deleted. Over the years I have found that editors who start by making small changes to existing articles and work up from there have a far better chance of having a successful time here than those who jump right into creating new articles from the start.
From what you say above it seems you are interested in contributing on other subjects. I also see that you made a few contributions on other subjects well over a year ago, which as far as I can see were not at all promotional, so perhaps "From your contributions, [advertising or promotion] seems to be your only purpose" is overstating the case. However, it is also clear that you still wish to have the draft on Matteo Dolci promoted to an article, which I don't think would be a good idea right now. I am willing to unblock your account on the understanding that you won't edit about Matteo Dolci, or at least not until you have significantly more experience of editing on other subjects (say at least 1000 edits) and that if you ever do return to that draft then you do not move it to article space yourself, but instead submit it as an article draft for creation. That way it can be reviewed by an independent experienced editor. However, MER-C, who placed the block, may like to express an opinion, and also 331dot may like to comment again. JamesBWatson (talk) 09:18, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
- I would endorse what JamesBWatson suggests; I was thinking something similar. 331dot (talk) 10:06, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
Thank you so much JamesBWatson for your explanation. I repeat my goal wasn't to be a sponsor of someone, but write something interesting and important (I'm Italian too) that someone did for our Country after a very sad earthquake. That was my goal. I joined Wikipedia 2 years ago and that was my first article. I did in 2 years some improvements to other Wikipedia articles. In 2 years that was my first published. My real question for you is can you please correct my article based on the guidelines so I can understand better. Also I can accept (easily) to don't see my contribution about Mr Dolci on Wikipedia I don't understand at this point after all why my account is still blocked. I shown my account was opened 2 years ago, I helped Wikipedia community with some improvements and I mentioned I'm not related, sponsor or agent of Mr Dolci. Also I mentioned I'm not interested anymore to see the article published if you don't find it complaint or interesting. So can you please unblock me?
- I'm a little wary of unblocking because both the behavior and the content match that of an ACPERM gaming UPE sleeper account (hence spam-only block). I defer to the reviewing admin. MER-C 15:12, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
Guys at this point I don't know what other I can say. I had all the good intentions and call my account "sleeper account" I think it's not fair. Probably MER-C you didn't review my contributions. I told to all of you to give me examples where the article was far to the guidelines and also I told you I'm not interested in the article anymore and you still consider me a spam it's not fair. Tell me if my contribution about the President of the Senate of Italy was a spam!!! I accept everything but if you defend your choice to block me because I'm a spam I cannot accept!
And more I used another article to write mine about Mr Dolci. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvatore_Palella this is on Wikipedia from a long time and I used as tamplate. Again there wasn't spam in a story of someone raised 7M for the people that lost everything in the earthquake!
- What I am saying is that I've encountered over a hundred spammers who made similar edits like yours to pad their edit counts before spamming. I am willing to accept that I am wrong in this instance if the reviewing admin agrees with you. MER-C 18:23, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
Thank you so much for your answer MER-C and I can ensure you I absolutely don't want to be a spammer and my only goal was to publish something interesting. Looking forward a review from an admin. Thank you again!
- I see where you say you will not edit about Mr. Dolci; do you specifically agree to the points JamesBWatson makes above(build up a substantive edit history of 1000 edits before submitting a draft at WP:AFC)? 331dot (talk) 19:43, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
Yes 331dot as I mentioned before I'll not edit on Mr Dolci and now that I know I need a substantial history of editing if you can unblock my account I'll continue to contribute to Wikipedia. Thank you again
Your draft article, Draft:Matteo Dolci
