Request reason:

Caught by an open proxy block but this host or IP is not an open proxy. My IP address is 130.41.101.92. This is not an open proxy, it's a Palo Alto SaaSS VPN used by my employer. I'm User:Nemo_bis and I use this alternate account when at work. Nemo ter (talk) 09:18, 17 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

It is not generally permitted to make edits via a VPN. You could request an IP block exemption for this account(see WP:IPECPROXY) but I'm not sure it would be granted since you have an another (legitimate) account that you successfully edit with elsewhere. 331dot (talk) 09:32, 17 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

331dot thanks for the answer but what do you mean "It is not generally permitted to make edits via a VPN"? I can't see anywhere the policy says so. The policy says "Open or anonymizing proxies", this is neither as it's a private VPN. A private VPN IP isn't an open proxy more than a static IP address for one household is. Please see WP:VPN for more information. In short, it is not generally permitted to use VPNs or proxies- any technology to alter or conceal your true IP- to make edits, as they are often used abusively by vandals or spammers, making it harder to stop such editors. As I said, an exemption can be granted, but you have another account that you successfully use to make edits elsewhere, so I think it will be difficult for you to make a case for an exemption. Typically exemptions are only granted to those who can demonstrate a need. It doesn't hurt to ask, though. 331dot (talk) 10:53, 17 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
331dot, you ask me to read WP:VPN when I've just quoted the relevant passage from it? The policy doesn't apply to a private VPN address. Using one's employer's office's IP address doesn't help conceal one's "true IP". Please be more specific as to what passage in the policy you think applies. I also see that your IP falls within a globally locked range due to spam- but the local block here says that the VPN is a Google cloud product. I've been here many years and I've never seen someone try to draw the distinction you are trying to. You can request unblock again for someone else who is more knowledgeable to look at. 331dot (talk) 14:11, 17 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
