Speedy deletion nomination of File:RC Headshot.png

edit

A tag has been placed on File:RC Headshot.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Sorry, but it matters nothing that the image is widely published and the source file does not bear a copyright notice: someone owns the copyright, and we cannot accept the image without a license from them, or proof that they have placed the image in the WP:Public domain. Public domain is a technical term in copyright law, and does not mean the same as "widely available in published sources". See WP:Copyrights#Guidelines for images and other media files. There is a reference there to possible use under "fair use" provisions, but that does not apply to pictures of living persons, because WP:NFCC#1 requires that "no free equivalent is available, or could be created".
You could ask her company whether they have an official portrait they are prepared to release under a free license. See C:Commons:OTRS for how permission would need to be organised, and the conditions the copyright holder has to agree to - specifically, restrictions to Wikipedia-only or non-commercial use only are not acceptable. Commons is a separate organization which holds media files for all the Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedias in other languages, and that would be the best place to upload an image. I have deleted this image as it is a crop of an apparently copyrighted image from a website. Please note that Wikipedia does not use images of living people taken from other websites, unless the original creator of the image has released the image under an appropriate licence - Peripitus (Talk) 23:32, 16 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
