Filter 58 falsepos edit

I'm not super knowledgable about edit filters, but it seems this is a false positive that prevented a user to post his Draft; I had to do it for him (he came to IRC for help). I'm just letting you know in case it is something fixable. ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  20:56, 1 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • It does seem like a false positive, but I can't tell right off what set off the filter. I'll look at it again. I note that the article is pretty darn promotional. Thanks, NawlinWiki (talk) 20:59, 1 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
    • I changed the filter so that it shouldn't hit drafts any more. NawlinWiki (talk) 21:02, 1 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
      • I agree that draft is far from ready to be published, but that's what drafting is for. :) Thanks for the quick reply! ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  21:06, 1 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
        • Hi guys. Can you guys help me understand why that page was not notable and deleted? What else should I include? There's a bunch of third-party news articles etc for references, with dates, authors and everything. Should I improve the biography? That guy is on a #1 Billboard album right now, I thought that'd be notable. (talk) 04:02, 2 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

I can't frikin' wait!!! edit

Okay, maybe I can.  :-)
Here's the thing. you put a protect on the talk page of the article 2014 Israel–Gaza conflict. I was wondering if there could be an external link to Israel attacks Hamas leadership targets in the Gaza Strip—I've already put a link in their article to the WP one, but I can't seem to ask for it here. When I try edit request, all I get is the source. I suppose I can wait, but what if another protection is put up? What do you say. I'll check on this page later. Filter 31 again edit

Hi - a lot of false positives at the moment, including such as this one which is a simple talkpage post and lots like this which are simply anons trying to add wikilinks and/or templates (which appears to be the {{ and }} triggering it). Thanks, Black Kite (talk) 12:33, 8 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Looks like it's objecting to wikilinks inside quotes or near other punctuation (i.e. [1]) which is a pretty common valid pattern - and of course they don't actually have to be adding that pattern anyway (i.e. [2]).. Cheers, Black Kite (talk) 01:44, 9 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

ReCreation of a Page Once Speedily Deleted edit

Hello there! I am contacting you in regards to a page that my colleague attempted to create in January. We are both employees of the company page that is currently in draft form and therefore have a conflict of interest. I have taken the time to carefully review Wiki's guidelines (however, I am very new to editing and to the community!). I understand that it is strongly recommended to reach out to the person who may have deleted the article in the past, and to notify him or her that I am working on recreating the page.

It is currently in draft mode and has not been submitted for publication review. I would so appreciate any feedback, advice or suggestions you may have while the page is in draft phase. I fully respect Wiki's rules and would like to make sure the submission is honest, objective and notable.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to ensure the draft is acceptable for review. Any and all advice is welcome.

Thank you very much for your time and patience! Lizfarabee (talk) 20:07, 11 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Thanks for notifying me. Don't refer to the company's principals by their first names, please - or do anything else that makes the page look like promotion for the company rather than a neutral article. NawlinWiki (talk) 16:29, 12 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

I disagree with your speedy deletion edit

Hello.

I believe that you have incorrectly speedily deleted a Wikipedia article that I created.

While I understand that you may not consider Clubs always "notable", I feel that this particular club is good enough (a website, twitter, and lots of other stuff) and controversial enough to be kept on as an article.

I think that this club will become even more popular in the forseeable future having grown in popularity very rapidly of late.

Please consider reinstating my article, not least because I spent a lot of time and effort on it and was dismayed to see it 'speedily deleted'.

Regards,

User:boltcrbetitorEdfilmsuk (talk) 22:03, 13 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • I'm sorry about the effort that you put into the article. But we don't do articles based on the author's belief that something is the Next Big Thing. Also, see our website notability guidelines at WP:WEB. NawlinWiki (talk) 14:18, 14 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of Company Connector edit

Hi NawlinWiki, on July 29th I asked about Company Connector, a previoudly deleted page (see the archives). You responded and I recently asked a follow up question. I'm not sure if you check or the archives (or if I even should have written it there), so posting again here.

  • You said: The article I deleted in 2013 had no content at all. You should be aware that we discourage people from writing about their own companies on Wikipedia, see WP:COI. Any article about the company would have to show that it meets our notability standards, WP:CORP, as shown by reliable, independent sources, WP:V. NawlinWiki (talk) 16:56, 30 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Btw, let me know if I should be responding to you somewhere else. Thanks again for the help, Joehallett3 (talk) 20:25, 15 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Recreation of M-GO edit

Hello, I appreciate your effort in making sure published articles are up to standard on Wikipedia. I am writing this message to ask for your advice. As I was about to publish an article titled "M-GO", I discovered to my surprise that it had been created and deleted once on June 2, 2014, as an "unambiguous advertising or promotion". I do not know what the first article looked like but I suspect that its deletion had a lot to do with its wording and style. I have then painstakingly written a new article that complies, to the best of my knowledge, to WP policies and rules and most importantly emulates similar WP articles in the same category (ex. Hulu, Netflix, Vudu). Just like another editor asked you in the previous post "ReCreation of a Page Once Speedily Deleted", I am asking your cooperation and expertise in evaluating the draft I have written in my sandbox here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Bostonscribe/sandbox/OGM I will be most grateful if you could tell me if it is now acceptable for publication. Thank you for your cooperation. Bostonscribe (talk) 21:56, 15 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • That draft looks generally good. These sentences appear promotional: "To securely deliver and playback premium content, M-GO implements several Digital rights management (DRM) technologies seamlessly and transparently for consumers while protecting movies rights. For the best user experience M-GO is involved in building and adopting adaptive bitrate streaming technology such as smooth streaming, HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), and MPEG-DASH." Please rewrite these without the adjectives. Thanks, NawlinWiki (talk) 12:45, 16 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Thanks for your appreciation and advice. I really appreciate your input. Bostonscribe (talk) 14:46, 16 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism edit

Dear Nawlin, thank you for yer quick action in reverting my obvious vandalism, but I'm curious as to why you admins don't just block straight after the first vandalism. Wouldn't it have been better to block for a day? Sincerely, the IP known as 92.40.249.19 (talk) 14:45, 17 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

We believe in giving people second chances. Samsara (FA  FP) 14:59, 17 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Well that explains why Wikipedia is in such a poor state. Do you not find that editors spend more time repairing damage than actually building the place up? I just looked at your warning templates, do you really wait for four acts of vandalism before someone does something about it? Why not just two warnings? 92.40.249.19 (talk) 15:17, 17 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Because people might not know the tools when they first start. Many will make a "test edit" because they don't believe their changes will really show up. Next, they might do it again just to show their friends. So there's a margin of error built in within which we expect people to start showing positive and constructive behaviour. Samsara (FA  FP) 15:30, 17 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I see. So basically you're accounting for the teenagers who vandalise for a bit of fun, but will then grow up very quickly? A little unrealistic perhaps?. Thank you for your careful answers. 92.40.249.19 (talk) 15:59, 17 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

How to deal with Administrator who is vandalizing? edit

Hello,

The user Deb is vandalizing the May 22 wikipedia page by constantly reverting to her edit which deletes many legitimate entries. I have tried posting on her talk page and she still continues to revert to her edits. Her edits are illegitimate deletions.

This user must be stopped. She is behaving in a malicious and inconsiderate manner, yet she is also an administrator. Where can I solicit help for this situation?

inre Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hit By Lightning edit

copy-pasted from deletion log:

"15:33, August 19, 2014 NawlinWiki (talk | contribs) deleted page Hit By Lightning (Film) (Multiple reasons: speedy deletion criteria G11, A7)"

This brought another editor to speedy it again a few minutes later when recreated. But he took a drubbing at today's AFD for lack of WP:BEFORE. When he offered the time code, I found what he did... but in looking through your contribs, I was unable to find any such action for that time and date (Is the deletion log broke?), and could not find you notifying an author.

I feel G11 is an iffy call for a two-sentence improvable stub and A7 does not apply to films. With great respects, had you done jusdt a little BEFORE, you might have learned that by the article's creation on August 19, the film had already had its debut and the topic was eminently sourcable. Just goes to show that even the most experienced admins can sometimes err. Schmidt, Michael Q. 09:00, 21 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

List of Fellows of the American Academy in Rome 1896–1970 [2]

As background support for the original article posted, recently our grandson somehow found that the Chicago Film Archives had in their archival collection some 600 films done by Rhodes Paterson for Container Corporation of America about 40 years ago. We called their chief conservator and asked about their goals in researching, archiving and preserving such films. After learning about their extraordinary conservation efforts we offered to provide them with finished photos, drawings, other films and images to include in their historic archives which they gratefully accepted. This is what they have placed on their site and why we included the link on Walter Paepcke's and Container Corporation of America's pages. Lost in the mists of time were memories of Paepcke's and Rhodes Patterson's original decision to include Suzanne’s and Ron’s work in their “Great Ideas of Western Man” film series. http://www.chicagofilmarchives.org/collections/index.php/Detail/Object/Show/object_id/5880[3]

All of the drawings and photographs included in our original article http://www.dirsmithgroup.com/Chicago_Film_Archives_Collection+HEFNER_EDITED.pdf[4] were prepared and owned by Ron Dismith, FAAR, NA. They were given to the CFA for their research and use http://www.chicagofilmarchives.org/collections/index.php/Detail/Object/Show/object_id/5359[5]

Many of the drawings and Photographs have also been given to and uploaded years ago in the Public Domain and Wikimedia Creative Commons, having been uploaded to commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File in a number of formats and sizes for public use. They all meet the copyright requirements as signed when uploading ... "I, the copyright holder of this work, hereby publish it under the following licenses under CC-BY-SA-2.0 and GFDL. Permission was granted to copy, distribute and/or modify each document under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 or any later version published by the Free Software Foundation; with no Invariant Sections, no Front-Cover Texts, and no Back-Cover Texts. A copy of the license is included in the section entitled "GNU Free Documentation License"."

CFA is a not-for-profit cultural arts organization which is the main reason we offered to help their wonderful efforts. Wikipedia, as we understand its reason for existence, is an encyclopedic resource for the world in general. We use your site many times to gain just such knowledge about a topic, company, person or institution. It is simply outstanding as such. http://www.chicagofilmarchives.org/about-2[6]

Please assist us to learn about Wikipedia so we can help The Chicago Film Archives Curators and their Researchers work especially in posting our photos and drawings in an easily accessible format for them as we did in our initial odf file. We sincerely thank you for all your help and expertise.Mozza&pomo (talk) 22:19, 23 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

You may check the results of your actions at:

  • I have explained this twice on your user talk page. I'll explain once more, and will not answer any more repetitive requests. Mr. Dirsmith's name is still on the List of Fellows page. But it's a redlink. Read WP:REDLINK for an explanation. If and when someone writes an original article on Mr. Dirsmith, the redlink will turn blue and be a link to his page. Until then, clicking the Dirsmith redlink on the List of Fellows page will result in the message you quoted. That is how the system is supposed to work. It's not an error. Recreating Speedily Deleted Page edit

Hello. I would like to request a second chance and recreate my page that was speedily deleted. I apologize, this was my first attempt at creating an article and I accidentally published too quickly without editing the content to my and Wikipedia's standards for an encyclopedic entry. The page was therefore appropriately flagged and deleted before I could correct. I understand that my original page as posted was promotional in tone. I will definitely be sure that there are no promotional phrases or terms in this article's second iteration as that is not my intention. Will I have any issues if I try to create the page again later today or tomorrow? Thank you for your time. Kevjmcauley (talk) 21:01, 26 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • As well as writing the article in a neutral, nonpromotional fashion (see WP:NPOV), you will need to cite reliable independent sources (see WP:V) that show that this musical is notable per WP:N. Thanks, NawlinWiki (talk) 21:08, 26 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

why the speedy deletion tagline ?? RETRO Networks edit

I still find it hard to believe the things you the administrators do. I mean like seriously man an article was created and just not even 10sec's a tag for speedy deletion has been placed, that's just not right. On what grounds are you placing a newly created article for deletion? why not just let the article at least spend sometime up here for some weeks so other people knowing about the subject can also register and add more references and thereby expanding the article until it's fully documented. It's just so obscure the way the tag was raised. Please do remove the speedy deletion tag and allow that article some time to be edited and expanded at least some days or a week. Pardon me but i seriously don't know if most popular companies pay some people up here to act as administrators thereby deleting competitors posting about there organization, because for you to place an article about a company with references as speedy deletion and unambiguous advertisement then after reviewing WIKIPEDIA'S policy for company and organizational article i seriously feel no company should be posted on Wikipedia cause they aren't encyclopedic at all and place no historic nature worth knowing about in the next 100years. There are a lot of companies been placed on Wikipedia without deletion tags and don't even have enough references like the one i created, why aren't they deleted ? or are the companies paying up to stay on Wikipedia through there employee's or are wiki admin's now biased ?

You need prove, just look up this pages and see for yourself ;

I. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amkor_Technology (This one has only for references but still up and running) II. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodward,_Inc. (Same here just 4 ) III. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wausau_Paper (This one doesn't even have any reference at all but is still up ) IV. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agilent_Technologies V. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ChexSystems VI. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chem-Dry

I mean i can keep on naming and naming so many of them without even enough references but they are still up, please with due gratitude remove the speedy deletion tag so that the article can be improved with time. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Moetmoney (talkcontribs) 13:04, 27 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • The article was deleted not because of the company's importance, but because it was written as an advertisement: "With it's charming slogan been "Secure IT Solutions for a more secure environment" it has expanded and resulted in the security and stability of many client companies"; "Retro Networks & Technology provides expert IT support that takes the focus off technology problems and puts it back on what really matters in your business.". See WP:SPAM and WP:NPOV. Also, look at WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. NawlinWiki (talk) 14:30, 27 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Which ever way you seem to see this it's just your own way of prioritizing advertisement. Now am fully sure your biased and i wouldn't be surprised if you take offense with this because that's the truth and it hurts. How da hell are we supposed to expalin what a company offers if we don't tell the readers exactly what they do lol, "It has expanded and resulted in the security and stability of many client companies"; "Retro Networks & Technology provides expert IT support that takes the focus off technology problems and puts it back on what really matters in your business" you call this advertisement? OK so if i go to PayPal's Wikipedia page i won't see any glorifying notes or phrase about how they have helped business remit funds and all ? Cheap biased mind man. I have read Wikipedia's policy and article guidelines throughout and i practically know what am saying, this is exactly the same reason i don't like writing Wikipedia articles cause i don't have time in arguing what is right and well known but someone out their tends to turn it down. If those quotes and phrases are the problems to the article, fine i have removed them and will post again, i hope i don't see a speedy deletion again cause i have done exactly what you said.If i get to see a speedy deletion tag do i hold you accountable for your words? Well lets see but check again i have removed all you pointed out and made it clean. Thanks

Duck Commander Before The Dynasty edit

You deleted this article as a blatant hoax. Actually not. See [3]. A&E is apparently resurrecting episodes of a program originally broadcast on the Outdoor Network before the family hit the big time with their Duck Dynasty series. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:36, 27 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Oh my. The link in the article was dead, but yours obviously works. In any case, the article was a cut and paste of an A&E promo, so I will change the warning. Thanks, NawlinWiki (talk) 21:37, 27 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

SPeedy Deletion Dispute edit

You deleted the page for Lil Herb I made. Lil Herb is one of the hottest guys in rap right now and his mixtape Welcome to fazoland has over 235k downloads on datpiff alone. He has collaborated with major rap players like Nicki Minaj, Common, and Lil Bibby as well as being considered one of the founders and spearheads of the Drill movement within hip hop. Lil bibby is similar in fame to Herb and he has a page yet Herb doesn't and I've seen many people on hip hop forums ask why so I tried to make one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Barrk (talkcontribs) 21:43, 27 August 2014 (UTC) Barrk (talk) 22:03, 27 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • You need to cite reliable independent sources, see WP:V, to show that this artist meets our notability guidelines for musicians, WP:MUSIC. NawlinWiki (talk) 21:48, 27 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • You are right, you did - I couldn't see them because the reference tags were not formatted properly. I've fixed that and restored the article. Thanks, NawlinWiki (talk) 22:04, 27 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
    • And yes, please use all the references you can. NawlinWiki (talk) 22:04, 27 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi, could you please restore the article I created. It talks about recent violence and has nothing to do with the article you thought it duplicates. Thanks--Seesvenue23 (talk) 01:53, 28 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

AN/I mention edit

Hello N. I know that you will see the ping but I thought that I would also leave this Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Deletion of an article so that you can get there quickly. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 02:12, 28 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi,

Might want to revoke talk page access as well, blanking their talk page and referring to someone as blocking bastards. Amortias (T)(C) 12:40, 28 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Pushing On edit

There is no need to delete that page. A lot of songs which are not released yet have articles. This song is out on Sunday which means it will chart the following Sunday. There was even a link on the page to purchase the song proving the song does exist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.155.215.163 (talk) 15:55, 28 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

The song will be worthy of an article once it's charted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.155.215.163 (talk) 17:50, 28 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

What? Why? edit

The deletion off Nexar Group and Aim2Fame for the reasons given are so wrong. Why dont you even check the sources? InHa (talk) 16:04, 28 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

See source here: https://foretagsfakta.bolagsverket.se/fpl-dft-ext-web/grundInformation.seam?cid=82449 That should also confirm the Aim2Fame page you deleted as well InHa (talk) 16:09, 28 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

    • It's not enough to cite a source that shows the company exists or is chartered. You need to cite sources showing that the company meets our notability guidelines, WP:CORP. NawlinWiki (talk) 16:11, 28 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

"Brian T. Thompson" vandal edit

Hello. At the same time as you blocked the vandal I made a check through whois and found that it is a school IP (Prince George's County Public Schools, Landover, Maryland), so perhaps you might want to give them a bit more than 31h? Because both me and the others who are kept busy removing "Brian T. Thompson" from various articles are tired of it (in case you didn't see the report at AIV it's a serial vandal who has been adding what's probabaly his own name as CEO, designer etc on a large number of articles for a long time). • Better idea - I will deal with it through an edit filter. Thanks, NawlinWiki (talk) 15:14, 29 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Mango wood. Since you had some involvement with the Mango wood redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. Steel1943 (talk) 23:34, 29 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hussain Dawood edit

Were you sure about deleting it? According to this, the previous version seemed to have been already referenced. Was it a recreation of an already-deleted article?--Jasper Deng (talk) 04:02, 1 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Restored the article and reverted to non-spammy version. Thanks, NawlinWiki (talk) 13:35, 1 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
