Does anyone know when the Wikipedia started their "verifiability" policy? I have been examining various articles on health topics and they have references beginning at different times. Thanks for your help. Natalie Natalie kupferberg (talk) 19:43, 14 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sorry I still need more help. I tried adding an image of the photo my coworker bruce leach took of the show globe for my show globe article. I uploaded in the wikipedia commons giving everyone permission to use it. I tried adding it to the article but it is a mess. Could someone fix it up or show me how? NOthing seem straight forward. Again the article is on show globes. Thanks, Natalie Natalie kupferberg (talk) 21:20, 25 April 2008 (UTC)Natalie KupferbergReply

Please help me add the category Pharamacy to this page. I have no idea how the word template got there. there is already a category Pharmacy, I just do not know how to add it.

Thanks, Natalie````Natalie Kupferberg

I corrected it for you; all you need to do is put Category:whatitis in square brackets at the bottom of the page. Plvekamp (talk) 18:00, 25 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Show Globes

edit

Hi, just thought I should explain that the reason you are having problems is because rather than get all the content sorted first and then create the article, you have done it, what is unfortunately, (and this is not a criticism just a comment) the wrong way round, and created an article with no content. You really should have created the article with at least some content to identify the subject matter, that way other users know what the article is about. Have a read of some of the links in the welcome message above, and also WP:BETTER, WP:CITE, WP:RS and WP:VER. Have fun though and welcome to wikipedia.♦Tangerines♦·Talk 16:24, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thank you for your message and no worries you are doing the right thing! You don't need to email anyone though, just ask questions on other users talk pages like you have on mine. You could leave a message on the articles discussion page asking for help/input from other users and list the specific areas you need help with. There is also the "helpme" template which you place on your own talk page like this - {{helpme}} and it would alert users that you need help. Someone should then come along and help you! Don't worry though there is plenty of time to get things sorted. I have the article in my "watchlist" which lets me know when changes are made and I will keep an eye on it for you, and will look at the references you mentioned now. Have fun! ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 16:56, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

One quick question for you as I've just looked at the "references" you added, do any of them have an "online version" on a website that you could give the website address for? ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 16:58, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I see what you are doing it will just take a slight amendment to get it right. I will amend the last one you did.♦Tangerines♦·Talk 21:35, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Keep in mind this article for when you feel more confident about adding sources WP:CTT. If you scroll down to the section titled, "Citations of generic sources" there are some templates which can be used for sources whether they be websites, news articles, books, journals etc. At first sight they can seem quite daunting but once you start to use them it gets easy. They go inline (in the same way you added that last ref), but don't worry for now there is plenty of time to get used to using the templates> I can add one for you when you like and you can then see how they work.♦Tangerines♦·Talk 21:45, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ha ha no I'm sat watching tv with my laptop at the moment!! :) ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 21:48, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am having trouble figuring out how to construct multiple footnotes for the same source.

Below is what I am trying to do. I want to direct the user back to the Stieb source but I get an error message. Thanks, NatalieNatalie kupferberg (talk) 20:29, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

As colorful as show globes are their history is even more so. The most dramatic story of their origin goes back to the time of Julius Caesar 100-44 BC. When the Romans invaded Ireland, Caesar’s forces found an ideal landing site opposite a pharmacy window which displayed large containers of colored liquids. Caesar’s forces guaranteed the pharmacist that he would be safe from the invading forces as long as he kept lighted lanterns in his windows which would serve as a beacon for the landing forces. As a token of his appreciation, Caesar “decreed that henceforth all apothecaries would be permitted to exhibit containers of colored liquids in their windows as a symbol of their calling."[1]

The only problem with this theory is that this would have occurred at least twelve centuries before there was any recognizable separate profession of pharmacy.[1]

It appears you are doing this correctly, what is the error message? Southern Illinois SKYWARN (talk) 20:33, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
You need to name the first ref, which I went ahead and did for you. I also put a references ection on your talk page to show you this. Also, your reference is not formatted correctly, see WP:CTT.
  1. ^ a b Stieb EW. Show globe--beacon through time. Pharmacy in History. 1986;28(1):52.

with the reference to the article by Steib on show globes. I cite this article a lot and cannot figure out how to have multiple citations to the same article. One person tried helping me before but I am a bit dense. I have to quit for the night but if you could explain how I would appreciate it. thanks Natalie Natalie kupferberg (talk) 00:16, 26 March 2008 (UTC)natalie kupferbergReply

Here is the basic format <ref name=example>{{Citation | first = Example | last = Example | author-link = Example | first2 = Example | last2 = Example | author2-link = Example | editor-last = Example | editor-first = Example | editor2-last = Example | editor2-first = Example | contribution = Example | contribution-url = Example | title = Example | year = Example | pages = Example | place = Example | publisher = Example | url = Example | doi = Example | id = Example}}.</ref> To use the reference again, use <ref name=example/> Southern Illinois SKYWARN (talk) 00:20, 26 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey there, sorry I haven't got back to you sooner!! I promise that I will have a look at the article for you later today!! Have fun! Oh and my username it is qute simple really - I am from Blackpool in England, and the local football (what you probably call soccer!) club's nicknames include The Seasiders and The Tangerines!! There you go! ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 16:42, 26 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

To be honest I don't think you need the underconstructon tag on it anymore. I would think that is the reason why it doesn't show up on google yet. I think this was the last article I created - West Lancashire Derby, that is the second link when the term is googled. And checking some recently created articles they appear on google. This is an article I have done some work on, which another user created on 24 March and that is already there on google - Ishita Bhaduri‎. I would remove the underconstruction tag if I were you. ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 23:09, 26 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Salvia feedback

edit

Thanks for the feedback Natalie. I can't take all the credit for the Salvia divinorum article, but I was one of the editors particularly concerned about ensuring well-sourced references for its content. I'm a Wikipedia enthusiast for sure, but the citation of good references is an area sadly lacking in far too many articles I have to say. I'm not a research scientist by profession, but I do appreciate its philosophy and method, basically the demand for evidence, for which many of our politicians and lawmakers seem unfortunately quite regardless. --SallyScot (talk) 21:40, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Wikipedia Library now offering accounts from Cochrane Collaboration (sign up!)

edit

The Wikipedia Library gets Wikipedia editors free access to reliable sources that are behind paywalls. Because you are signed on as a medical editor, I thought you'd want to know about our most recent donation from Cochrane Collaboration.

  • Cochrane Collaboration is an independent medical nonprofit organization that conducts systematic reviews of randomized controlled trials of health-care interventions, which it then publishes in the Cochrane Library.
  • Cochrane has generously agreed to give free, full-access accounts to 100 medical editors. Individual access would otherwise cost between $300 and $800 per account.
  • If you are still active as a medical editor, come and sign up :)
