Nanotechnology article

Regulation of nanotechnology

Hi there! First, I want to thank you for contributing the information about regulation of nanotechnology - it's not too often that someone contributes such a large block of cogent, referenced text.

Since you seem to be a new editor, I just wanted to touch base about why the text you contributed is better off as its own article. On Wikipeida, when an article becomes very long (over ~50kB), each section is split out into its own subarticle, and each section of the main article becomes a summary of one of the subarticles. This happened to the Nanotechnology article a long time ago, so that now almost all of the sections are summaries of subarticles. Your contribution is definately long enough (about 35kB) to be a standalone article, so I have moved it to Regulation of nanotechnology.

Again, thanks for the good work. I'll likely nominate the new article to be featured on the main page for the Did you know section, which features facts from newly-created articles. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you need any help with anything.

Thanks for your further comments. I'll respond to your two points in order:

1. Again, the reason the regulation of nanotechnology section was moved to a subarticle was to keep the main article in "summary style". Right now, all of the sections of the main article are a few paragraphs with a link to a more detailed article, so the regulation section needs to be in line with this. The relevant guidelines are at WP:SUMMARY and WP:SIZE. I do, however, agree with your point that the placement makes it less likely that viewers will actually find the main article. I have tried to remedy this by putting a few sentences about it in the lead of the main Nanotechnology article, as well as adding it to the main Nanotech navbox.

2. I'm not sure what you mean about the "section on nanosocialism"... it's only mentioned in the last sentence of the lead section in Regulation of nanotechnology. I agree that it does seem to be a bit of a loaded term, but it was coined by David Berube who wrote a pretty authoritative book on implications of nanotechnology, so I think a one-sentence mention is warranted.

I appreciate the difficulty of keeping NPOV on implications of nanotechnology, since there's so much hype on both the potential applications and potential consequences. Let me know if the edits help.
