Vandalism-fighting

Hello, thanks for your efforts to fight vandalism. However, please use a tool like RedWarn to fix vandalism and warn users, to reduce the possibility of what happened at Cape Naturaliste College, where you only reverted one of the vandalism edits. Graham87 06:03, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

  • Thank you for the advice! I am new to patrolling recent changes, so I will take your advice and try out the tool RedWarn. Nangears (talk) 06:07, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

Hyungwon image

Hello. Can you please change Hyungwon's pick into a new react one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hyungwonmylove (talkcontribs) 11:59, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi, the article's current picture is the most recent available on Commons, and with WP's guidelines on copyright it isn't particularly easy to add current images of people. Nangears (talk) 14:34, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for the good work you did tonight

Thank you for reverting all that vandalism on Pepe Romero. This was one of the worst attacks on an article I have ever seen. I hope you continue to be a recent changes patroller. Scorpions13256 (talk) 04:05, 20 August 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for the message and thank you for all your work on reverting the vandalism as well. I've definitely never seen an attack like that on a page, it was wild to be a part of. Thanks again! Nangears (talk) 04:11, 20 August 2020 (UTC)

Shownu (draft)

I have a question about adding in his variety show appearances. I saw that you said being a guest is usually not added, but some of the shows like "Hit the Stage" he was a contestant and in "Oh! Cool Guys," he was a fixed cast member. Also, "Yum-Yum Yum-Yum" was his own Mukbang show, which had 16 episodes, including a trailer. I was just wondering if they still would not qualify as his own solo work. Also, the music videos I added were from the time before Monsta X, there are no articles to source, but you can see him in the music videos. Is there another way to source his appearances in those videos? Thank you (AmayaNyx (talk) 14:54, 24 August 2020 (UTC))

Sorry, when I looked through the edit, I noticed that there were a lot of guest appearances and didn't check each thoroughly enough, and just reverted the whole edit. Him as a contestant or cast member is fine, as well as his own mukbang show, as it looks like you have reliable sourcing for all of them. As for his music video appearances, I have run into the same problem with sourcing them. So, unless there is a secondary source that discusses them, they aren't considered notable enough for inclusion on his page. But, unless his appearance in them has been discussed later (such as his work with Lee Hyori), it is difficult to find sourcing. Nangears (talk) 17:55, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
Nangears, thank you so much. I will see if I can find sources for those music videos. For the shows I mentioned, do I need to add them back in or can I just undo part of the edit? (AmayaNyx (talk) 18:03, 24 August 2020 (UTC))
AmayaNyx, thank you for joining in on editing the page. It is nice to have someone else working on it too! You could choose undo on my most recent reversion on the page, as that was the show appearances, and then, before publishing changes, go through and delete the guest appearances, so that it is just the cast and contestant ones, as well as his mukbang show. Nangears (talk) 18:10, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
Nangears, it's no problem! Thank you for working so hard creating this page and trying to get it approved. Okay, I will add those back onto his page. Thank you! (AmayaNyx (talk) 19:40, 24 August 2020 (UTC))
Nangears I have a question about removing some of the shows Shownu has appeared in. In both Master Key and Prison Life of Fools he is a contestant, not a guest. He was competing in both programs for prize money. Wouldn't that be considered being a contestant? They are not talk shows, but actual game shows and he's competing, just as he is in Running Man. Shouldn't they be included? (AmayaNyx (talk) 01:58, 5 September 2020 (UTC))
AmayaNyx I think maybe I didn't explain it properly in my first response, so I will link you here the main discussion of the topic that I myself have previously been linked in a discussion, in case you want to check it out for yourself. The discussion is a bit lengthy, with a lot of back and forth discussion, so to summarize the main point is that the show needs to be notable to the person's career for it to be mentioned. The exact consensus for how to handle every show/appearance I think is a little unclear from that discussion (for example, King of Mask Singer is suggested by some as something to delete, but it is a widely included show on pages, which I would argue is fair as it is a very popular show in South Korea, and appearances, in my opinion, warrant mention; others see appearances there as simple promotional work that isn't particularly notable), but I think a general guide to think of for variety shows is does the person appear in more than one episode (so are they main cast or more of a guest), and if not, then is there another reason that this is particularly notable. If there isn't a good answer to the second part, like something else to make it very notable and more than just another variety show appearance (I think one of the examples given in the discussion is something that ends up being related to a scandal, or something like that), then it shouldn't be included.
For Wikipedia in general, and something that it took me a little while to get used to as well when I started editing, is that it is not really about every small detail and trivia point, to make the most comprehensive possible biography, but the notable things about a person. There are plenty of other sites and fan resources that exist out there to help fans find every appearance an idol has ever made. WP looks to include only the notable stsuff. So, for example, Shownu has been praised for his charisma and talent on variety shows, so I see that as notable to mention, and why it is included on his main career section, but each appearance of his is not necessarily notable in the same way. To continue my point above, if a single appearance in a show is notable enough, you should be able to explain in the main body of the article why the appearance is significant, in prose form. If you aren't able to explain it like that, then it probably isn't notable enough to be included (I'm not saying you have to add it in to the main career section, I'm just trying to point to another good test of notability, as in try asking yourself if you could write out in a sentence why this show warrants a mention on this page?)
For the exempting of "contestants", I think this more applies to shows like Show Me the Money and things like that, shows that can have a significant impact on a person's career, whether they win or not, and not variety shows with a competitive aspect, if that makes sense? Winning or losing in Master Key or Prison of Fools would not have a noticeable career impact on an idol after they appeared in an episode or two. (Others on the page I linked you also argued for eliminating Running Man, but, in my opinion, similar to King of Mask Singer the show is significant enough that an appearance there can warrant inclusion. But, that's my personal opinion, and I don't think that every editor agrees). Nangears (talk) 02:42, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
Nangears Oh I see. Thank you so much for explaining it to me. I apologize for not understanding clearly. It is a little bit difficult to get use to editing on here, but I'm sure I will get better in time. I appreciate the help. Thank you again. (AmayaNyx (talk) 17:55, 5 September 2020 (UTC))
AmayaNyx No need to apologize as getting used to editing on WP is difficult at first, but you seem to be off to a good start. I hope I didn't overwhelm you with my explanation, I just thought maybe my first one wasn't clear enough. Again, I'm glad to have your help in editing the page as well, and I hope you will branch out into working on more pages! Nangears (talk) 18:09, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

Fatal Love (album)

Hi! This is SweetBerry0926. About the issue on the content you put on the commercial performance, some of those should be put on the critical reception instead. I do not find any issues on your work and I'm sorry if I wasn't able to always reply back. Have a good day! SweetBerry0926 (talk)

SweetBerry0926 (talk · contribs) Hi! Maybe you are doing it accidentally then, because it seems you are saying the same thing, but what my comment for reverting the edit was pointing out was that what you were moving out of the critical reception section, and to commercial performance, should stay in critical reception (such as year end lists). If you disagree with that I'm happy to discuss it further here, but it seems that maybe you were making those edits in error if you agree that it should be staying in critical reception. Nangears (talk) 02:19, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
Nangears (talk · contribs) Hi! I think that what also happened. I was doing the transfer one by one when it was suddenly reverted. Thank you for your response. Yes, the year-end lists should stay in the critical reception. Have a good day! SweetBerry0926 (talk)

SM Entertainment source

Hi, this is Arctical. I made a change removing a reference that was used as the basis for saying SM Entertainment was the 'largest entertainment company' as the reference wasn't valid to use for as a basis for saying that. I've discussed why in detail here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Paper9oll/Archive_2#SM_Entertainment;_South_Korean_entertainment_companies (which is from the talk page of a user who hasn't communicated back about it, hence I made the change after ten days of waiting for a response). I also put this link into the changes review summary, so I'm assuming you may have missed it since you said the removal of the source was unexplained.

If a valid source can be found that actually does provide evidence that SM is 'the largest', then that phrase should be kept and the current reference replaced; but for now, since there isn't such a source as of yet, it would probably be best to remove it for now. Thanks. :) Arctical (talk) 00:01, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for explaining your reasoning! Because of your reverting and then re-reverting of your edits, I didn't see the note you had left in your first edit summary! Nangears (talk) 17:19, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

Please move rather then remove

I noticed a series of your edits like [1]. I agree that MoS tells us to add this information to the article's body, but it is helpful. If you see it in the wrong place, please move it down, instead of removing, unless it is already present in the article's body. Cheers, --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:55, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

  • Piotrus, where I removed it in articles it either was already in the body (as in the example you linked) or no source was provided so I did not add it to the body of the article. Nangears (talk) 06:02, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
Nangears, Fair point about the lack of the source, although the information is likely correct (does not seem like a hoax). But it is good to teach new editors that they need to add sources; I recommend that if you remove such content, you leave a note on the editor's talk page, teaching them about MOS and WP:V and like. Cheers, Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:05, 29 March 2021 (UTC) Ps. Of course, what do with cases like Dilraba Dilmurat - the information was and is unreferenced, yes, but it was already present for a long time in the infobox and the category. Well, I moved it down and added a cite needed tag, I guess that's best practice. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:08, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
