Morning Robert. There are a number of problems to address here; firstly, looking at your CV I struggle to find any indication that the notability requirements for biographies are met and secondly we have a bit of a conflict of interest issue - writing autobiographies on Wikipedia is discouraged for reasons of maintaining neutrality; the rule of thumb is that if you are notable enough to have an article then likely someone else will see fit to create it. That all said I am perfectly happy to assume good faith and so I will move the deleted article to User:Rcdavila/sandbox where you can work on it. When you have finished if you drop me a line I will review it, and, if it conforms to wikipedia's requirements we will take it from there. Palladio

No problem - it was a pleasure to work on something I am genuinely interested in for a change! With regard to the image problem, it would seem that it is not currently possible to use the .png from commons because a different image of the same name exists on Wikipedia. I am going to see of there is any way that this can be resolved - e.g. by moving one or the other to a different name but in the meantime it's nothing to worry about as the original is not in danger of being deleted. Please don't delete entries

I'm working on a serious and well-researched entry on Rodes Vila, and you deleted within minutes of its creation and in the middle of editing. He meets criteria for notability (I referred to an AdWeek article; there would have been others), and your deletion simply isn't justified by Wikipedia policy.

Salvatore Cusato aka Casco

Sorry, I didn't notice that a deletion by AfD was necessary. On the other hand, this same article was deleted twice, once as a result of a prod and one as a speedy deletion (see here), and the almost homonymous article Salvatore Cusato was itself prodded and deleted. Croquet is interactive collaboration funded by Alan Kay who spent 30 years reaching kids with far out ideas and won the Kioto prize in 2004.

I visited my virtual grandchildren to illustrate digital art composition with Maya personal learning edition and have experienced much excitement doing difficult programming getting out visual 3D graphics. Smalltalk teaches kids what programming is about and motivating them with 3D virtual reality is a good thing.

The croquet consortium has references to tutorial by Americo in Brazil. Though his English is bad and instructs on doing things on a PC I have gained much courage from his tutorial to do it on a macintosh computer. I've downloaded his image for his second tutorial but have been sidetracked. A number of tutorials are coming out and were disclosed on croquet user list.

If my language is correct, cobalt is a new improved image of croquet. I have downloaded the prebeta and croquet appears as "the engine" while cobalt the file it runs which has all the runtime interpreted frameworks that do things live as you change them in programming them.

Incidently, I did a little show to one person at a computer club of the idea of croquet and this gave me the courage to find what I was looking for to write this up. It was a lame demonstration of postcard as xml to tell a 3D world address which exercise fleshes out what you want to do over extended distances. I could do the exercise on one computer of going from one world to another while connected to a wifi network. People would get scared when I tried to do it on two computers, mine and theirs and I wouldn't get to show the idea. I might write to the croquet user list to have someone decide when to try what I want "postcard as xml" through Jabber or iChat to see if the KAT really does internet WAN peer to peer which could get me to playing with these kids in California that I showed graphics of Maya to years ago.

Hello Queens Judo. Best place to start would be to check out the notablity requirements for organisations - in essence an organisation needs to have had coverage in multiple independent sources. I am guessing from your username that you are in someway connected with the club - in which case you also need to be very careful to remain neutral. Hello Nfitz. It was speedied as db-empty - if you look at User:Nfitz/Sandbox you'll see why as I have copied the content to your user space for you. As you will see it was more of a test page than even a stub; if there was any savagable content I would have rescued it myself but there really isn't anything to work with so I suspect you will be starting from scratch. He is a new user and has got hold of some EA pics which he has started to load onto Wiki (apparently with their consent). Its the sort of thing that seems to cause difficulties if you get it wrong and I don't want him to get discouraged. On the other hand I may be interfering unnecessarily. You were right to be concerned. I have read the conversations and looked at the licensing Drbdavid has placed on the images and in the light of this have nominated them for speedy deletion. The EA site has a clear and unambiguous copyright notice and until we see evidence that the EA have released these photographs in to the public domain then they simply must go. I have left a personal note on Drbdavid's talk page explaining why I have nominated the images for speedy and encouraging him to perhaps look towards contributing his own work going forwards. nancy ^(talk) 09:49, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Don't worry Ghungru, it is not up for speedy deletion anymore - that was declined yesterday. It does however still have a notability tag on it but so long as you keep up the good work adding reliable sources then the notability will soon not be in question. One small point though, the links to Target and Amazon will have to go - they are considered advertising, citing a book should be done using the ISBN number which Wikipedia will automatically recognise and link through to a special page where the reader can make their own mind up about which site they wish to look it up on. Hello Yossi. Wikipedia's copyright requirements are quite strict and it is not quite enough for you to have permission, it also has to be proven that the permission is of the right type - this is because anything that is written on Wikipedia has to be released under GFDL which basically means that it is available for anyone to use anywhere they like either as posted or changed as they wish. There are two ways to confirm to us that the text has been released:

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the Atera site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." This will mean removing the existing copyright which states "All Rights Reserved ATERA NETWORKS 2007"

or

Obtain written confirmation that the text has been released to GFDL which should be forwarded to the email address "permissions-en AT wikimedia DOT org"

To be honest, in this instance I think that it would actually be easier to rewrite the content in your own words rather than jumping through all the copyright hoops. A word of warning though, even if the new article is not a copyvio then it may still be removed unless it meets our policies for notability of corporations and is properly sourced. Also as you are closely associated with the company you may want to leave it for someone who may have a more neutral perspective to write the article - if Atera meets the notability requirement then it surely won't be long before someone does just that. One of my friends in Israel told me that he, and his friends, had written it and as I was adding to it, since I met Shlomo in La Paz, Bolivia, the page was deleted by YOU!! What is your problem? Why does Wikipedia keep refusing Shlomo Bolfen based on the 1993 incident with the Bolivian government?! This is an outrage.

CSI speedy deletions

Thanks for the quick work. I've dropped a note into the CSI Project to get people to look out for mistaken speedy deletions as well as to check for copyright violation (I know I caught some a while back).

There appears to be a list here of ones that got deleted. Not sure what you feel about the situation but it seems better to remove the copy vio than to just delete the whole entry and I can restore them without the offending material. (Emperor (talk) 20:57, 15 March 2008 (UTC))

Absolutely agree. As far as I could see once the copyvio section had been removed from each of the articles the remaining content was a perfectly adequate stub which is why I chose to remove the copyvios and decline the speedies. I don't know what the background is to the link you gave above but I can't help but wonder whether the nominations were perhaps a bit pointy - looked to me like a case of "any excuse". Unfortunately I had to go and have a real-life in the middle of it all so I wasn't able to rescue all of them but I can't see any reasonable argument against reinstating the non-copyvio sections of the deleted ones. Yes I noticed you had a bit of a tug-of-war on at least one article I checked. I better gird my loins for this one (I'd also better look up how you do that too!!). Considering some were but up for speedy deletion because the copy being violated was actually on a Wikipedia mirror, one could read a few interpretations into this - best I can say is it all seemed overly hasty, which is grounds for reversing things.

Shlomo Dubnov was removed on the grounds that it was a redirect to a user page from the main space; the contents when I deleted it were #REDIRECT [[User:SDubnov]]. Before I deleted it I reviewed the history and saw that previously it had been a user page which had inadvertently been created in mainspace - likely though a typing error - and that some other helpful person had moved the content to its rightful place, i.e. your own userpage where it still is so whilst the page was removed the content is extant. The only way that it can be found and linked as Shlomo Dubnov is to create an article of that name however there are a number of reasons why you should not do that. Firstly from what I saw of the content of the previous article you are not notable enough to have a mainspace article and it would probalby be deleted again quite quickly. Secondly editors are encouraged not to write articles about things they are closely involved with and are postively discouraged from writing autobiographies this is because if you are too close to a topic it is difficult to remain neutral. My honest advice is to keep your bio in your user space and if you want people to be able to look you up by name you would be better off somewhere like myspace or facebook. kind regards, nancy ^(talk) 16:29, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Hello Lanesher and welcome. There are two issues you need to overcome with the article. Firstly it needs to be written in a neutral and encylopaedic way - the reason I deleted it just now was because it was little more than an advert. Chopping out copyvios?

I was not aware that just chopping out sections of articles like Buck Hill Inn that violate copyright was standard procedure now. Over 90% of the article has been removed, and the references point to nothing that remains. The way the remaining paragraph is worded still has a hint of copyvio to it, but I haven't found it yet. I don't think it is a particulary new trend - the policy has always said words to the effect of If some, but not all, of the content of a page appears to be a copyright infringement, then the infringing content should be removed. Unless removing the copyvio section would remove all context I would always choose to edit out the copyvio rather than delete the whole thing. You're probably right about the first para being copied from somewhere too but if I were you I wouldn't waste too much effort trying to find it - I think it is pretty clear what the result of the AFD is going to be... kind regards, nancy ^(talk) 21:17, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

No, it is not set in stone forever. The situation is that if a recreation of the article is "substantially identical" to the one deleted as the result of the deletion discussion the the new article can be (and likely will) be speedily deleted again under the G4 criteria as "recreation of deleted material". I have reviewed the original deletion discussion and you are quite right to highlight sources/references as one of the key issues as the consensus was that the article(s) should be deleted because of "no verifiable sources showing real-world notability". So.... if the new article addresses these concerns there is still a possibility that it might get speedily deleted but if it was you would probably have grounds for taking it to deletion review. I can see that you have updated the licensing information on the image & that is very helpful - thanks for that. However..... the use of it on the Bird College article does not qualify as fair use, you could argue fair use on a "Mary Poppins - London production" page but that is pretty much it - even on a Gavin Lee page you'd be on sticky ground as he's not dead so a free image could reasonably be obtained. Further to that there is really no fair use justification at all for using it on the page of a college he once attended - I believe therefore that the use of it on Bird College is a copyright infringement and it should be removed ASAP. It may be that the college has permission from the copyright holder to use the image or it may be that they are using it illegally. Either way it doesn't really help the situation as neither of those scenarios alter the status of the image on Wikipedia; the image is clearly copyrighted to Cam Mac/Disney and therefore the only license which can possibly apply on Wikipedia is fair use, and as explained above the use of it on Bird College cannot be justified under fair use. Sorry if this seems a bit harsh but Wikipedia's image copyright policy is (necessarily) very restrictive and, to the uninitiated may even seem illogical at times. Kurashiki NET Program

I really can't understand why you deleted my amendment. I wasn't promoting a POV, merely stating the fact that a blog about the program exists. This could be verified by following the link which you also deleted.

The original article is far more inaccurate. One of the conditions of employment listed on the official homepage is that you must be a native speaker of English. Something which the article would appear to contradict.

Untranslated datedumps

Henry David

you just deleted my article and this is why is belongs as an encylopedic article. This is not my dog, i'm just writing an explination for all the lost dog sings around the area (litterally thousands of them) This is an unusual situation with a lot of breaking news occuring everyday (a low flying helecopter complaint in the police crime log, multiple police calls, and false sitings of Henry. All I'm trying to do with this article is make people aware of why there are so many signs in the neighborhoods and the story behind them. The reason my username is findhenry is because this is the first article I have ever written on wikipedia, and the article seems like a plea because it was not do yet. I was just writing the contact info and reward 1st because it is the easiest info to find online, the other history of the story i'll need to look for in the newspaper, the original ad is on craig's list and that is were i'm taking some backround info. From what you have told me I can't see where an encyclopaedic article is going to come from. What you have described is not suitable for Wikipedia because Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information and entries need to be notable outside a local context, verifiable, and been the subject of multiple references in reliable sources. Wikipedia is also not a soapbox - you mentioned in your first post wanting to "make people aware of what is going on", you should really be doing this on your own website or blog. Maybe launching straight in to creating an article is a bit of a big first step, how about you try editing a few existing articles to get the hang of this place and how things work around here; perhaps you could look at adding information to topics that you know about about already? Hello Emily. Wikipedia's copyright requirements are quite strict and it is not quite enough for you to say that you wrote the original, it also has to be proven that there is permission to release the original text - this is because anything that is written on Wikipedia has to be released under GFDL which basically means that it is available for anyone to use anywhere they like either as posted or changed as they wish. There are two ways to confirm to us that the text has been released:

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the Baby J site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article/page, and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." This will mean removing the existing copyright.

or

Obtain written confirmation that the text has been released to GFDL which should be forwarded to the email address "permissions-en AT wikimedia DOT org"

To be honest, in this instance I think that it would actually be easier to rewrite the content in your own words rather than jumping through all the copyright hoops. A word of warning though, even if the new article is not a copyvio then it may still be removed unless it meets our policies for notability of musicians and is properly sourced. Also as you are closely associated with Baby J you may want to leave it for someone who may have a more neutral perspective to write the article - if Baby J meets the notability requirement then it surely won't be long before someone does just that. No one is disputing whether you took the photo or not. The message on your page refers to my tagging the article (not the image) St.Albans Abbey Photo for speedy deletion as it was clearly a test page and as opposed to an encyclopaedic article. In the future you may want to take a little more time to read the text of comments left on your talk page as it will prevent you jumping to hasty and incorrect conclusions. Article does not appear at friends or when I deleted my browsers cache (and not logged in)

Good morning Thomas. What a strange problem. The article is definitely there and has never been deleted so that's nothing to do with it however the name is familiar to me - did you create it recently under a different user & perhaps spelled slightly differently? - I have been through my deletion logs and can't see it but perhaps it was someone else who deleted it so maybe you are looking under a different spelling? Hi Nancy, thanks for your reply. Actually I am working in France and today, I used the purge function (Wikipedia:Purge) to refresh the page. It worked now here with my computer, even when I am not logged in. However my friend in Germany could not see the page. He had to use the purge function as well in order to see it. But he just used the search function for the article, and again, the page was not available. He purged again and it worked.

Hi there StarDeshay. I think you should listen to your friend - she's right, she's not famous and that is why the article was deleted as it did not show why she was notable enough for Wikipedia. When she is famous then she might qualify for an article but until then you'd be much better off using a personal website to promote her.
