Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Draft:Richard Pennington (writer) a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Richard Pennington (writer). This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. File permission problem with File:RAPbookcover.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:RAPbookcover.jpg, which you've attributed to Richard Pennington. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:42, 23 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Vycl1994: I have sent an e-mail to permissions-en@wikimedia.org about a week ago with permissions from the owner. Is there something wrong in the e-mail? Should I perhaps use a different format? If so, could you link me to what I should forward to permissions-en@wikimedia.org instead? Nagarashi (talk) 07:25, 30 December 2017 (UTC)NagarashiReply
I did not know that you had sent an email to WP:OTRS already. Thank you for doing that. I have now placed the {{OTRS pending}} template on each of the images you have uploaded. I do not work with OTRS, but suspect that it is highly backlogged. I believe you have done all you can regarding images for the article you are working on. Continue to edit it in draftspace, and move it to mainspace when you feel it has been improved. Vycl1994 (talk) 22:22, 30 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you use Wikipedia for soapboxing, promotion or advertising, as you did at Richard Pennington (writer).

@Seraphimblade: I see you have reverted the page I edited to basically the same thing as before and on top given me a warning for promoting or advertising. To begin with, have you even looked at the changes or did you just glance over it and moved on?

Secondly, I don't see why you basically assume this to be soapboxing/advertising/promoting. This is just an assumption out of the blue without asking me anything - even though I've already mentioned before I have no affiliation with Richard Pennington. Thirdly, I have added new sources, curtailed the page removing fluff and unnecessary information that wasn't sourced. Fourth, I also asked you before why a list of published works is being deleted. It doesn't link to a sales website. Every author on Wikipedia has a list of published works, every actor has a list of appearances, every musician has a list of albums/singles. So, as I asked before, why is this being deleted? What's the reasoning?

I'm going to assume you've got a lot of articles to look through and just didn't have the time to look through everything and thought I reverted your changes without hesitation. If not, I'd like an explanation this time. More than the lackluster explanation I've received last time which kind of showed you didn't even take the time to look through the sources given. Previously you stated the sources don't even mention him and when I linked you two sources, you changed your opinion to "they don't talk about him in depth". Now that I've added different sources that DO discuss him in depth - unless a 40+ minute interview about his life, work, and advocacy is not in-depth enough? - and limited the sources to not 'spam' them, it's apparently still not enough?

Looking forward to your reply.

I'm not inclined to give you much of an explanation when I'm seeing deceptive behavior, like moving an article in and out of draft to add spam. I said what I had to say above: Do it again, you're blocked. Seraphimblade Talk to me 01:27, 21 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Seraphimblade:

I am moving the article in draft to work on it. I'm not an advanced user of Wikipedia, I assumed that was the proper way of doing things. What's the use of having an article online with multiple issues on it and text that basically has no continuity? Where else should I move it to work on it then? Talk page? Sandbox? It would be appreciated if you'd actually help new users instead of driving them away. On top of that, you completely ignored basically everything I've said. Unexpected, to say the least.

Articles in mainspace continue to be worked on in mainspace. They don't get "moved" anywhere, aside from the occasional case when an offer is made to draft or userfy something in lieu of deletion. Continually moving it around, and then putting it back basically like it was, looks an awful lot like evading scrutiny by other editors. Seraphimblade Talk to me 01:48, 21 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Seraphimblade: Well see, I did not know that. I assumed that when an article makes absolutely no sense anymore, it would be moved to the draft space - where I also assumed other editors would be able to see it - and then when it's better sourced/edited could be moved back to the mainspace where it then could be further edited and altered. Of course, if you would have taken a better look at the page, you would have seen the sources were changed to add far more in-depth ones and anything that could not be properly sourced was removed as how you edited it before.

I already moved it back to draft before sending you the first message and put it up with Articled for Creation instead. I apologize for the move - again - as I was thinking that to be proper practice. I still did not see any answer to my questions presented above and I feel I will not receive one either. So, I assume my only option is waiting for AfC to look at it?

I think that would be the way to go at this point. If AfC's willing to go with it, then I've got no objection. And by the same token, if I really did get you wrong, then I'm sorry for that. We have an awful lot of spammers who do things very similar to that; you wouldn't imagine some of the stuff they've come up with to try to keep what they're doing under the table. Seraphimblade Talk to me 01:58, 21 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Seraphimblade: I can understand that, I've seen plenty of vandalism around on Wikipedia. Heck, I've seen my own brother vandalize a page once. I honestly assumed that editing in draftspace until it was presentable was proper practice, I'm glad to know the proper ways now. I have no intention of spamming or vandalizing, only to take my first steps into article creation. Hence why I took this topic, I felt it would be something that I could use to learn how it all works. I'll wait on AfC to see what they have to say.
