Peter Noble (Bluesfest Director) Peter B. Noble is an Australian entrepreneur active in the music industry for almost 50 years. Best known is Peter Noble as festival director of the highly awarded Bluesfest, which was celebrating its 25thAnniversary in 2014. The much loved 5 day international festival is held every Easter at its permanent home the Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm, just north of Byron Bay the idyllic northern New South Wales beachside town. Peter Noble’s significant contribution to the industry was recognised earlier this year when he was awarded The Rolling Stone Australia Award for his services to Australian Music.

Peter was born in Sydney and became involved with music at a young age playing in Blues, Rock and Soul bands as a bass player. Growing into a professional musician Peter toured extensively the world before moving to the US, where he worked at the legendary “The Earth” booking talent and setting up Portland’s First International Jazz Festival. Returning to Australia in the early eighties Peter started to tour and promote Blues, Jazz, Soul and Reggae bands, introducing those genres for the first time to a wide audience in the country. In 1981 Peter founded AIM Records. In a major historical development in February 2008, AIM became the first ever Australian independent label to win a Grammy Award – for the first ever Zydeco/Cajun Grammy. The winner was Bluesfest favourite Terrance Simien’s recording ‘Live Worldwide’. AIM was also nominated for a Latin Grammy for Cubanismo – ‘Greetings from Havana’. Peter joined the East Coast Blues Festival in 1990, becoming the director three years later. Peter is immensely proud that Bluesfest has, in unprecedented fashion, become one of the most highly awarded festivals in Australia. In 2005, 2006, 2013 and 2014 Bluesfest won the Helpmann Award for ‘Australia's Best Contemporary Music Festival'. And between 1994 and 2010 (except 1997), Bluesfest has consistently won Rhythms Magazine readers poll for ‘Australia's Best Music Festival'. In 2007, 2008, 2009 & 2010 Bluesfest was also awarded ‘The International A Greener Festival Award’, recognising its outstanding long term commitment to the environmental and sustainability needs of the local community. Unlike any other Australian event, Bluesfest has twice had the honour of being nominated as Best International Music Festival by US concert bible “Pollstar” in 2005, 2006 and 2013 alongside world renowned events such as Britain’s Glastonbury and Switzerland’s Montreux Jazz Festival. Peter Noble is also co-owner of Singapore's Timbre Rock 'N Roots Festival, and is a regular speaker at music industry conferences including Popkomm in Berlin, Big Sound in Brisbane, and NT Music Week in Darwin. He will also be speaking at Jazzfest in New Orleans in 2011.
