Speedy deletion nomination of OREDA

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on OREDA requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.oreda.com/about-us/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi, can I recover this page if the copyright stuff is resolved? Thank you--NT DK (talk) 14:08, 9 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hello, NT DK. As the copyright violations were apparently extensive, the article would probably have to be recreated from scratch. I would be happy to work on it with you, as it does seem to be a topic that should have a Wikipedia article about it. Would you like to try that, or would you prefer to do it yourself? (Note that any other editor could come in and work on the article whether you like that or not.) I know basically nothing about OREDA, but I do know Wikipedia policies and would be able to help keep the replacement article within the rules. —GrammarFascist (talk) 05:34, 10 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hello,GrammarFascist. It will be great if you can help me. I have got the permission to use the logo and text with copyright. Could you please let me know how to deal with the copyright and make the deleted article to appear again? Thanks very much. NT DK (talk) 07:06, 10 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Great! I found Google's cached version of the previous OREDA page, so I will be able to copy out anything that isn't plagiarized for the recreated article. I will have to check each sentence, or part of a sentence, to make sure it hasn't been copied from somewhere else, so it will take some time for me to create the draft. Looking forward to learning about Norwegian petroleum safety! ;) —GrammarFascist (talk) 03:48, 11 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I have started rebuilding the article. Not all of it was plagiarized from online sources, but a fair amount of it has been so far. Only the very beginning of the article is there yet, but don't worry, I will be putting the rest in as I check for copying. I have rewritten the previously-copied sentences and phrases so that they're acceptable for Wikipedia, but there is one phrase I'm not sure of the meaning of. Can you help with it? Click Draft:OREDA to see where I'm at, then click Edit to see what the problem phrase is and reply. Do you by chance have access to a copy of the OREDA Handbook, so that you can check for copying from there? Also, if you know of any articles about OREDA in Norwegian newspapers or magazines, that would be very helpful in establishing OREDA's notability — another important Wikipedia rule. —GrammarFascist (talk) 05:22, 11 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi GrammarFascist, thanks very much. Please check the HTML comment in the edit page. I have the handbook of OREDA so I will check the copying. I don't know any articles about OREDA in Norwegian right now, but I will have a search on it. Thank you. NT DK (talk) 08:18, 11 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
I have added a bit more, reinstated the infobox, and left you a couple more questions. You should resize the logo file to 220x214 pixels (the size that will be displayed in the article) and reupload it under the same file name. This will help prevent the file from being deleted, as Wikipedia's Fair Use rationale for non-free images requires such images to be of a minimal resolution. I don't think the book cover images are necessary, so I'm not planning to put them back in. Unfortunately, organizations (or companies or people) can't just give Wikipedia special permission to use their images; images here have to be either Fair Use justified, or images licensed for anyone to use with credit. Logos are not likely to be given such licenses, as they would lose their trademark protection. (I hope that made sense, copyright and trademark can be confusing even to lawyers.) —GrammarFascist (talk) 15:15, 11 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi, GrammarFascist. Thanks and I am wondering if I could answer your questions on Monday. Cheers and have a good weekend. NT DK (talk) 14:25, 12 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi, GrammarFascist. Please see the comments in the draft page. I will resize the logo and thanks for your explanation. NT DK (talk) 12:13, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:OREDA handbook Topside 2015.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. ukexpat (talk) 14:40, 9 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

OREDA article has been recreated!

edit

Have a look at OREDA. All the information from the deleted version should be present. I've also added some, because Wikipedia articles need to be supported by secondary sources, which are third parties talking about the subject rather than the source talking about itself (which would be a primary source). I also put the Program Phases section in chronological order, and renamed it History, which are more in line with Wikipedia standards. And I put an image in the article — though I'm not sure the Troll B operator is part of the OREDA project; if not, I should replace it with another image from Wikipedia Commons that is of an installation that's part of the project.

There's still a lot of content in the article that only has primary sources cited, which I will continue trying to find secondary sources for. If you have access to trade magazines, or know of articles in Norwegian, that would help with that, that would be great. Feel free to respond here or on my talk page; now that the article is no longer in draft status, we shouldn't continue using <!-- HTML comments --> to discuss it. Thanks for working with me on this! —GrammarFascist (talk) 21:11, 15 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi GrammarFascist, thanks very much for your help and really appreciated. :) And I will contribute what I can contribute in the future. Thanks again. NT DK (talk) 07:06, 16 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
