Providing an image edit

Hi NDCole, there are two ways to upload images like you suggest:

1. If the image you wish to upload can be released by the copyright holder under a free license (such as CC-BY-SA), than the best way is to upload it to Wikimedia Commons from where it can be inserted into any Wikimedia project (i.e. not just the English Wikipedia, but also the Wikipedias in other languages). To prove that the copyright holder releases the image under the given free license the best way is to use the Commons:OTRS system. The image will look than like this.

2. If the image you wish to upload cannot be released under a free license, than the only way is to upload it to the English Wikipedia only, under the US fair use law. As fair use images have to be kept to a minimum, in the case of The Age article, this means that it would need to be uploaded on top of the existing frontpage image File:Age front page 12-12-2005.jpg. As this could be controversial, in this second case, best would be to describe your proposal on the article's talk page.

I know it sounds complicated, so if you have further questions, just let me know.

PS. Regarding your affiliation with the subject of the article you are editing, note Wikipedia:Conflict of interest.

Thanks again for your contributions! --Elekhh (talk) 04:59, 9 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the image. Also consider using commons:Template:OTRS pending. --Elekhh (talk) 05:53, 9 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
