That looks like a standard southern pronunciation to me. (There are multiple standards, as you know. What's standard in one dialect is nonstandard in another.) Why do you think this pronunciation is informal? – Minh Nguyễn ^💬 23:19, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

As far as I know, fête [faɪ̯t] is an informal pronunciation in Quebec French, but I'm not sure that if it's standard. 162.222.82.194 (talk) 01:54, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

As I explained to you before, the northern dialect has historically been considered the prestige dialect, so does get used in more formal situations. There isn't one standard dialect of Vietnamese – most people will tell you there are three. So to a southerner, [jaŋ˨˩] may be standard (that is, "normal") but less formal than [vaŋ˨˩]. On the other hand, to a northerner, [jaŋ˨˩] is simply nonstandard. "It's all relative" may not be a satisfying answer to you, but that's the reality. Perhaps a better question to ask would be, "would this pronunciation be acceptable in [insert context here]?" As for [faɪ̯t], I don't know anything about French, so please don't ask me for my opinion on French pronunciation. :^) – Minh Nguyễn ^💬 02:31, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Distribution of speakers

For the article about the Vietnamese language, let's change the tone a little more. We would reword so that it says as if the citizens/residents/people of the countries (other than Vietnam) speak the language as a mother tone. Make it sound as if the language is not just spoken by the people of Vietnam but also various other countries. That means we will avoid describing that they are technically ethnic Vietnamese living in those countries. But sure, we still mention Vietnamese-speaking immigrant communities in many countries but lessen this kind of description. I took the idea from Spanish-German-Portuguese-language articles (especially Portuguese) and few more.

I think "Geographic distribution" is a bit limiting. The article needs to discuss the language's usage both on an official/national basis (which also affects minorities) and as a "heritage language" (that's the term used in the U.S., anyways). Alternatively, we could fold a lot of this information into the "History" section if we can find sources that place these developments on the timeline. pronunciation of the word "cám ơn"

No, it cannot. If I say "cám ơn" and "cám mơn" very fast, you don't hear much of a difference. But when I say "cám ơn" and "cám mơn" more slowly, there is a clear difference in timing. "Cám mơn" is incorrect because the lips take too long to come apart. "Cám mơn" would mean something silly like "bran smoothed out by the fingers"! On the other hand, Google does return some results for "cám mơn"; a few people are using it as a "comical misspelling" in Internet forums. Maybe it's like how some Spanish speakers get a chuckle by saying "de nariz" instead of "de nada". – Minh Nguyễn ^💬 05:15, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

County road shields

With your expertise in Ohio county roads, do you know what style of shield is needed for these lists:

• List of county routes in Delaware County, Ohio
• List of county routes in Franklin County, Ohio

Fredddie, Delaware County generally posts county route numbers on street name blade signs (as "Del Co 123") rather than standalone reassurance markers. [1] However, their printed county maps use this style of shield. Franklin County only posts county route numbers on mile marker sticks and in utterly puny text on street name blade signs. That's correct. Lua development
