Welcome! edit

Hello, ATORecords, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Draft:Slow Dancer (Simon Okely), which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! WP:paid edit

I'm going to soft block this account in a moment. Without laying on an official warning, I would like you to read WP:paid and make the appropriate disclosure if you are being paid to edit Wikipedia, broadly construed. I will lay on the COI warning as I did not yet do so.Dlohcierekim (talk) 23:30, 12 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, ATORecords. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Draft:Slow Dancer (Simon Okely), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies.

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. To be clear, the present version is not promotional as such. There does appear to be a conflict of interest. Dlohcierekim (talk) 23:31, 12 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

October 2017 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Thank you. Decline reason:

Given that Simon Okely is managed by ATO Records, you've clearly been violating WP:USERNAME and almost certainly have been violating WP:COI, WP:PAID, and WP:PROMO. Yamla (talk) 20:56, 6 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

  Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Draft:Nick Hakim a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Nick Hakim. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Nickhakim.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on File:Nickhakim.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Eric Burton edit

MusicFans2221, Eric Burton has no notability outside of Black Pumas, and this article literally contains exactly the same information as the Black Pumas article. We don't normally have separate articles for members of bands unless they have an established solo career or have played in other notable bands. Why do you think this deserves a separate article that just duplicates the other one? Richard3120 (talk) 15:52, 12 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hey Richard,

I think Eric Burton deserves his own wiki page because he's a prominent musician- and he's the face of the band. He's performed and been interviewed by many great interviewers, like James Corden, and has a big following independent of the band. As he's such an individual person, I think he should definitely get his own page. If folks like Chris Martin get their own wiki page and have only played with Coldplay, then I don't see why this is very different.

MusicFans2221 (talk) 01:25, 23 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

The thing is that Chris Martin is notable outside of Coldplay – he's made solo records, he's appeared on records by other artists, he's noted for his philanthropic gestures, and his famous marriage to Gwyneth Paltrow... and none of this is related to his work with Coldplay. The key question here is: is Eric Burton famous for anything outside of Black Pumas, and is there anything that would go in a solo article that isn't already in the Black Pumas article? If the answer is no, then all we're doing is effectively making a duplicate of what's in the Black Pumas article. Where is the proof that he is an individual person, as you state? Just being interviewed alone without Adrian Quesada is not proof of this. WP:BANDMEMBER states that a separate article is only necessary when the band member has shown notability outside of the band they are in. Richard3120 (talk) 02:10, 23 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Point noted - Eric has also had a credited role in the Keira Knightley/Mark Ruffalo film "Begin Again" where he performed an original song, and has been featured in a PBS Music Spotlight https://www.pbs.org/video/music-spotlight-eric-burton-friends/ and was the focus of a small 2014 documentary 'A Song Can Save Your Life' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-mboDNhiqc. I think he really deserves his own page at this point! Happy to go in and edit to change the wording so it doesn't look like the Black Pumas page as much.

His bandmate Adrian is also a well-known musician, having played with Grammy-winning Grupo Fantasma and in Prince's band. (waiting for that approval!)
