Edit Warring edit

Please re read Wikipedia:Edit warring. Making a single revert in 24 hours is not edit warring. You should also read my reply with links here. You will see and understand the warning that I gave User:Somchai Sun was quite justified. -- MisterShiney 18:57, 8 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Read it then. Murry1975 (talk) 20:07, 8 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
OH! You Mean I should read it? Well, considering I was providing the warning about the violations of it, and you couldn't see the reasons behind my warnings, well, I think it is pretty clear who should be doing the reading? No? Or you could just get over the personal issues you seem to have against me and we can get over this kerfuffle. -- MisterShiney 20:30, 11 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Well considering you just edit warred on this page, you should read it. And BTW "Or you could just get over the personal issues you seem to have against me and we can get over this kerfuffle", where have I said I have a problem with you? That in iself is a personal attack. As is the sentence before "I think it is pretty clear who should be doing the reading? No?" Now if you dont mind. Murry1975 (talk) 20:36, 11 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
To be fair you were removing a justified question as to what you were referring too? No it isn't. Not when you are making comments like "Tell you what get a train to Glasgow/Edinbrugh/Aberdeen tomorrow walk around shuting your "opinion" and see do you end up in A&E or a polis cell". But anyway. I apologise for any offence I may made towards yourself. -- MisterShiney 20:46, 11 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
I am allowed remove anything I deem on this talkpage, within reason. And grammar police its referring to not referring too, and I'm the dyslexic one here. And are you heading over the Scottish border tonight :) ? Murry1975 (talk) 13:16, 12 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ulster Defence Regiment edit

Hi pal. Thanks as always for your help at Ulster Defence Regiment. Is there any way you can fit the old Government of Northern Ireland flag in too, the one referred to on the wiki as the "Ulster Banner"? I noticed that you put the comment "banner not offical for most of units activity" in the comment line and I hope you don't mind me correcting you on that? The UDR was raised in Northern Ireland when the government flag was the "Ulster Banner" and although that changed to the Union Flag after the Good Friday Agreement the UDR was amalgamated by then (in 1992) therefore it existed for its entire 22 years under that flag, as well as the Union Flag. The Northern Ireland Government wasn't abolished you see, it was "prorogued" (put in suspension).

I hope I'm not telling my granny how to suck eggs on the above mate and also hope you'll help me out here? Thanks. BTW drop me a line on internal e-mail and I'll tell you something interesting. SonofSetanta (talk) 11:38, 10 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

The flag is disive, and hasnt had any formal/offical usage since 1974, it change after the act naed of that year not 1998, so it really didnt operate under the flag.
An Act to provide for the dissolution of the existing Northern Ireland Assembly and its prorogation until dissolution: to make temporary provision for the government of Northern Ireland; to provide for the election and holding of a Constitutional Convention in Northern Ireland; and for purposes connected with those matters.
Also WP:MOSFLAG, guides that we dont use any sub entity flags. Murry1975 (talk) 13:21, 12 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

In regards to this AfD, do note that lack of references in itself is not grounds for deletion (unless for WP:BLP). When an editor encounters an article on a notable subject that lacks third party-references the correct procedure would be to google up the references and add to the article, rather than launching an AfD. In this case, there is abundant material in google to reference this short article. --Soman (talk) 13:59, 13 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

1934 FIFA World Cup qualifiers edit

Hi, I want you to read this [1]. It's from FIFA.com, the most reliable sources and which confirms that the team who played as Mandatory Palestine in 1934 World Cup qualifiers is the direct predecessor for the current Palestinian national football team.--Uishaki (talk) 21:25, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the reply, this shows affilated since 1998 and Isreal 1929. Both founded in the same year 1928. But please discuss this at the football project page for a wider community view. Thanks again. Murry1975 (talk) 21:32, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Tyson Fury edit

I'm new to wikipedia, so I haven't a clue what the message:

"(Reverted good faith edits by Sweeney581 (talk): As per pervious. (TW)) (undo | thank)"

means, but why did you change what I'd written? Sweeney581 (talk) 14:56, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

It means I revert it to read what it previously read, as per the talkpage and consensus.
http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=479205&cat=boxer shows British
http://www.espn.co.uk/boxing/sport/story/203415.html# Calls him British
Also linking Ireland to Irish isnt done in the modern era (post independence).Murry1975 (talk) 15:06, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
http://www.irish-boxing.com/2012/07/tyson-fury-stripped-of-irish-heavyweight-title/ Makes interesting reading, will add it to the tp. Murry1975 (talk) 15:16, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the answer. I made the change after nobody replied to my comments in the talk page. Boxrec only ever lists one nationality, and there are lots of news articles that call him Irish. If you don't object, I'll change it back to my version tomorrow? As for his title being stripped, that was because he subsequently fought under a British license (which he needed to do to fight in England), not because he didn't qualify as Irish. (I don't know if this talk page or the Tyson Fury talk page is the correct place to discuss this) Sweeney581 (talk) 15:16, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

I object, he boxes as a British boxer, the link above shows how this lost him the Irish title, he cant fight for British titles with an Irish licience, but he still can fight in the UK with an Irish one, there are plenty of Irish boxers in Austrlia, the US and UK who fight under irish ones. Also the reason why nobody replied is, as you also done here, we post at the bottom of talkpages, a stale discussion line from over 18 months ago. Post at the bottom or on recent discussions, if they are not there start a new one. Murry1975 (talk) 15:24, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

So I should have put this under the 1934 bit? He can fight in Britain with an Irish license, but it's easier with a BBBofC license because you don't have to deal with the foreign boxer requirements. Sweeney581 (talk) 15:41, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Then it his choice of conveince to remain a British boxer, and on wikipedia thats what he should remain. PS dont worry about the order I will sort it later bud. Murry1975 (talk) 15:43, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Your comment edit

I just find it very hard to believe he is watching every single page I have just edited plus the fact that he reverted every single one of my edits without a single word to me on my talk page not to mention he accused me of POV in one of his edit summaries, not a very good experience, it kind of puts me off from editing. ÓCorcráin (talk) 22:06, 21 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

I have added more on his page. Yes he has, in my dealing with him, near enough all Irish politcal articles covered on his watchlist, he is a decent enough guy and discussion is the only way. Edit a football article or something unrelated, dont edit war, its Irish politics and can end up getting messy. Murry1975 (talk) 22:15, 21 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yeah ok, I retracted my accusation which I wrote when I was frustrated on seeing all my edits reverted. I must assume good faith after all. ÓCorcráin (talk) 23:11, 21 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Regarding Mulgrew and Commons. I work for Celtic Fc. I know these lads. I know they had the kids out of wedlock. It's a fact. It's on their twitter. Charlie even got arrested for abuse to his child. Facts are online. Check for yourself ! Now fuck off. I know I am right. I will called Krissy and Chico right now.happy? From.harrybhoy67. I know more about Celtic than you will ever know so leave the facts to me sunshine .

I've taken care of it Murry. SonofSetanta (talk) 15:18, 29 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Harry Baxter edit

Harry Baxter was born in Kilkenny (Ryder p69). You've obviously got an idea so fill yer boots. SonofSetanta (talk) 13:43, 27 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

I would put County Kilkenny. The sentence is: "Born in Kilkenny, he was the fourth generation of his family to serve in the British Army." That's all. I would do it myself but I'm grafting away on the UDR stuff. Pity we hadn't got a good image of Baxter. I'll have a wee rake about. SonofSetanta (talk) 13:57, 27 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

COI edit

Accusing someone of COI without explaining what it is that you think the conflict is, is bad faith. COI applies where a person may benefit personally from something. You haven't even gone anywhere near establishing that. Nor have you addressed the core question, which is about bibliographic accuracy. I see you are a relatively new editor, so you be forgiven, but you have been heavy-handed in your assumptions and have not backed it up with relevant argument. -- Evertype· 13:12, 3 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Micheal, I have indeed backed-up my point. You are trying to conform MOS here to mirror the MOS your publishing company use. Until consensus is reached, please dont revert. Bibliographic accuracy can co-exist with commonname policy, linking non-English names to the article shouldnt be done, its English wiki. The average reader would have to follow every link to find out actually where they are published and this in essence is unencyclopedic. Wikipedia is meant to be informative to many different levels of knowledge and understanding, a free encyclopedia for the masses, most people in Ireland dont know where Cathair na Mairt is, and the general poplulation has been exposed to a least 9 years of Irish, so I dont expect some one from rural China to grasp it either.
I will read over some articles and get back with a proposal that hopefully will suit all. Thanks for taking the time to reply here. Murry1975 (talk) 13:53, 3 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Be careful. edit

Be mindful when reverting/reporting vandalism. This recent revert you made is not vandalism and is actually a proper grammatical correction. only (talk) 14:02, 3 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Daniel Devine edit

Okay, no bother. I assumed that as he stated he no longer wants to be considered for Northern Ireland's national team - opting instead for the Republic, that the ROI would be his designated flag. Sorry for reverting your edit. I'll go and change his flag on the Inverness CT 'current season' page. Cheers. Woodlandscaley (talk)

Anon IP edit

An accusation of sockpuppetry?. Pretty serious stuff for a new IP... --HighKing (talk) 14:54, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

lol, new, lol, good one :)
Both Zoombox and this IP arent new, as their knowledge of wiki proceses shows, and the admins at AN/I quite rightly picked up on it, both hey we could be the same guy! Actually we do have a bit in common bud, both Irish third-level educated dyslexics who edit in the same area and gnome it with IMOS. The IP is wikistalking my edits now, I have left a message for him to stop, if he doesnt I will report it, then the IP will get blocked and the actual account that uses it would get blocked too due to this. The admins will get a collatteral unblock request and hey BINGO. Murry1975 (talk) 15:01, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Doherty edit

Hey there, I had based nationality on this "Note: Flags indicate national team as has been defined under FIFA eligibility rules." which is true for Doherty.Dubs boy (talk) 18:23, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

We go by who he has played for at the highest level, he hasnt played for NI, and may never WP:CRYSTAL, if you read above on Devine, its the same guidelines. Shane Ferguson aswell when it was widely reported he was switching. Flags should generally illustrate the highest level the sportsperson is associated with. Tupolevjet edit

He's been at it again. Keeps reverting the consensus on the Irish counties. I'm afraid that I indulged in some edit warring. Laurel Lodged (talk) 21:34, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Tupolevjet needs to be reported to ANI. Laurel Lodged, thank you for reverting but you need to stop reverting now, or you could get slapped with a drive-by block as happened me recently. Snappy (talk) 21:38, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Step back, dont do anything silly bud. I saw his edits earlier and was trying to come to a phrasing for discussion that he may respond to. Dont revert anymore, its really not worth it. And he shouldnt stick to planes either from what I have seen :) Joking aside we have to get him to dicuss his issues, if he doesnt then other actions may be needed. Its a content dispute, so AN/I isnt going to help. Will template aswell it might help. Murry1975 (talk) 21:42, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

my intent wasn't to be condescending, and that's fine. i'm pretty sure that the site would, at the very least, consider themselves allies (as i do). but let's adhere to WP:V and WP:RS. Kaini (talk) 01:16, 15 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Derry edit

Murry1975, Can you provide neutral wording for RFC to be raised at Talk:Derry, consuming the points I made for poll? thanks, Dubs boy (talk) 16:18, 27 August 2013 (UTC) I will give it a try, probably tomorrow. The only thing is the wording of the RFC has to be neutral and not giuiding, either way, and this is a little hard, it has to be worded carefully. I have been thinking about, just give me until tommorow morning. Murry1975 (talk) 18:39, 27 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Post to geography RFC
"Looking for opinions/comments for conformity to WP:LEDE, infobox place and WP:NPOV"
Avoids pointing in a non-neutral maner, lets those commenting form input from thier experience and knowledge of these matters. Murry1975 (talk) 13:16, 1 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Article Feedback Tool update edit

Hey Murry1975. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:40, 1 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Gabriel Adams edit

You deleted my change to Gabriel Adams. My change was to correct the possessive of the name Adams from its original of "Adams' administration" to "Adams's administration." Do you not believe that this is grammatically correct? Seen a Tina (talk) 19:48, 24 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

No its incorrect. Murry1975 (talk) 19:49, 24 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
My correction is the preferred way of writing "Adams's." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostrophe#Possessive_apostrophe Seen a Tina (talk) 20:13, 24 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
No its not the preferred way of writing it, and Adams' is the preferred way, as the article shows. Less Desirable: He was a student in Professor Adams's class. More Desirable: He was a student in Professor Adams' class. However: He was a student in Professor Weiss's class. is an out side reference, we use WP:RS on wikipedia, not links to the encyclopedia itself. Murry1975 (talk) 20:43, 24 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
It is the preferred way of writing it. "Per APA Style, the answer is that the possessive of a singular name is formed by adding an apostrophe and an s, even when the name ends in s." Also, using the above link for the Wikipedia link I provided, you will find an example of "Tony Adams's friend," which is cited with non-Wikipedia sources.
