Recent edit reversion edit

In this edit here, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy.

I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.S Philbrick(Talk) 17:59, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

A spent a long time this morning updating my newspaper's Wiki page to provide history of organization. It was all deleted as were other updates include new syndicated columnists and up-to-date publisher information and dead links updated. I provided citations for the history. I have no idea why these were deleted. I was simply told 'Copyright Infringement' with no specifics. There is no copyright infringement at all as the information originates from the newspaper and the essay it appears in is also cited. Not only than, it's all gone. I can't even see it in the history so I've lost all my work and time spent!Msmaddymax (talk) 20:05, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

It appears that you copied content from this website and that simply is not permitted. Please read Wikipedia:Copyright violations, and be aware that this policy is taken very seriously. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 20:11, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

I'm not clear how to discuss things or contact administrators. The information taken from that site was provided by the newspaper. If you look at that site it clearly states that: "(Historical research and review provided by the Intermountain Jewish News.)" How can it them be a violation? Also, how can I get my work back? I worked hard to make it fit Wikipedia's standards so that it was basic history, dates names etc. I did NOT copy the essay as a whole as that would not have been appropriate. Thank you. I am an administrator. It makes no difference what the source of the copyrighted material is. We do not include large amounts of copyrighted text, no matter the source. This is a matter of policy. We do not include big blocks of text published by the newspapers in New York Times or Wall Street Journal or in any other article. You must summarize your sources in your own words. In addition, when you write "my newspaper", that implies you may be an employee or have an ownership stake. If so, please comply with Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure. I appreciate your explanation. I am frustrated though that it was deleted wholesale. Some of the factual information were cited by other sources, not the site in question. It also include updates that had nothing to do with the history, just up to date information. Now it's all gone and I have to recreate from scratch. The content appears to come from https://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/essays/1367/ . Did you write this article and do you know if it is in public domain? Moneytrees🏝️Talk🌴Help out at CCI! 20:41, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I wrote this article when the newspaper was part of a History Colorado grant to be included in the Library of Congress' Chronicling America collection. It states on the page that the information came from the newspaper. I do not know if accompanying materials for the Chronicling America collection are considered public domain. Msmaddymax (talk) 20:45, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

According to this, the newspapers in the collection are in public domain, but it doesn't seem to say anything about the articles written about their history. I'll see if I can email them for an answer. As for the deleted text, I could email it to you. Moneytrees🏝️Talk🌴Help out at CCI! 20:56, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

I would so appreciate that! It would help me rewrite the text to make sure I'm meeting guidelines. Also I updated my user page to clarify my relationship to the entry as requested/advised by Cullen328 Msmaddymax (talk) 20:59, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

If you want me to email you the contents of the edit, could you enable your email? You can do so in the preferences tab. Thanks, Moneytrees🏝️Talk🌴Help out at CCI! 03:41, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
