Welcome! edit

Hello, Mschaef9, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Adam and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Rhetorical Analysis edit

I visited the page Buddy Guy for this assignment.
This page has some room for significant improvements. The strengths of this page can mostly be attribute to this potential for improvement. The page seems like it was off to a very good start, mainly because most of the sections and subsections contain relevant information with appropriate links and citations. It could be argued that the authors are showing some bias, and there is some talk about this on the talk page, where I posted my thoughts on the subject, as well as some suggestions. The most glaring problem with the page is the amount of information that can be included. Buddy Guy has been playing music for close to seventy years, and there could be many more details about his life and career. The article does provide an extensive discography, and a list of major awards such as Grammy awards. Buddy Guy owns what is perhaps the worlds most famous and important blues club [[Buddy Guy Legends], and there SHOULD be an entire section on the subject. The weaknesses of this page can be attributed to very little activity surrounding it over the last few years. There are numerous places where claims are tagged "citation needed," but there have been no edits. I do wonder if these claims should be deleted, or fixed. Some of the claims should be deleted. There are numerous attempts to describe the genres and idioms Guy incorporates in his style of blues, and many of these are innocuous, inaccurate, and unnecessary.

This article was started in May of 2006, and most of the active editing and contributions were done between 2006, and 2008. These edits appear to be done by people who are blues enthusiasts. There did not appear to be very many contributors, at least, not enough to scrutinize or follow up on needed edits and updates over the years. As far as my own edits, I really do not have the hang of this yet. I looked for claims that could be deleted, and found many potential candidates, but all of these were tagged in someway. I need more confidence before I make the corrections I would like to make. I did go to the talk page and suggest improvements, for example, I created a header for Guy's club, and then made a note that this club is major achievement of Buddy's, and suggested that a section on the club should be added; this is something I will work on doing my self. The talk page for this article is mostly filled with suggestions for improvement, so I added a few more, as well as commented on others' suggestions. I gather from the talk page that there are many users who are interested in the page and have ideas, but need more collaborative assistance and feedback. It seems like most of the people invested in the page are fans, so much of the discussion involves keeping this page from reading like a fan club site, and more like an encyclopedia. Overall, this is a subject that I know very well, and this page could use some work. I am very interested in editing and contributing to this page. Mschaef9 (talk) 00:42, 16 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
