thanks for your query. AfD is a good option here; it would remove any doubt, once and for all. Remember that PROD can be contested by anyone, even the article's author, and that this is a Good Thing: PROD means "this article is not a speedy, but it is so crap that nobody cares about it, not even the author". If an article is re-created, then PROD is obviously not the way to go because someone wants the article kept; and, since PROD generally means no discussion took place, this means G4 is inappropriate. fuddlemark (befuddle me!) 12:54, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

On Oliver Knox

I was worried this might happen. Oliver Knox has nothing to do with the current article called Chronicles of America, and should not redirect there, or exist at all. Oliver Knox is a character in a nn fantasy by Stephen Ward called Chronicles of America. He (OK) originally had a short article to himself, which was changed to a redirect to the fantasy. I nominated Chronicles of America at AfD. During the AfD process, the article Chronicles of America was changed to describe a 1920s series of history books. At the conclusion of the AfD, all mention of the fantasy was removed (have a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chronicles of America). So, we now have the situation where a character in a nn fictional book has a page which redirects to an article about history books. It is that which I was trying to rectify through the CSD process. In that case, you need to nominate the redirect for deletion through WP:RFD. Redirects can only be speedily deleted if:

• The target is nonexistent
• The redirect is from article space to main space
• The redirect is from a typo that is very unlikely

Thanks for informing me about warning messages in general. I didn't know there was a protocol in place, that warning messages have to be left permanently in user's pages even though the issues are resolved and dealt with long ago. I thought one could clean up their user page and only be left with current warnings as in less than a month old, not someting that carries on and over for years.

Lewis move

Sorry for the delay in replying but your message got bypassed by other incoming messages yesterday and I didn't see it was until just now. I don't recall exactly what I did. If you mean what happened in terms of just moving the page, of course I was given the option of deleting/overwriting the target location since it already existed as a redirect. To my knowledge there isn't really anything stopping an admin from moving X to Y in any circumstance. I could move Simon Templar to Elvis Presley if I wanted to and just by clicking "Yes, delete" would overwrite the Elvis article. I have no idea what happens to the history and archives of the article in question at that point and I certainly wouldn't want to experiment with major articles like that to find out! 23skidoo 13:50, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Marvel Comics animated series

I'm trying to provide a strong emphasis to a point of view (from the comic book fans themselves, who are the best experts on this subjects) that was stated on the article(s). I will reply here and on the talk page of your last IP address. You assume that I approve of all IMDb links, which is a major assumption. As I recall, infopaw is a collection of links to other sites to other sites, so it doesn't fit any of WP:EL "What should be linked to". Can I also point you at Wikipedia:External links, especially "Links normally to be avoided", sub-section 3; and Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, especially "Wikipedia is not a mirror or a repository of links, images, or media files" sub-section 1. In the long run, if other editors find your site useful, they will link to it, but until then please don't use WP to try and publicise it. Yes, fansites should not normally be linked to, see WP:EL (sometimes one per article is OK); lyrics are normally copyvios, and we should not knowingly link to sites that break copyright. Please don't assume that just because I delete a particular external link it follows that I think that it is the 'worst' on WP or even in the article; it is simply the one I am considering at that time, usually because it is a recent change. Sure. As long as it's clear that it's the "apparent" or "observed" field strength, not the actual field itself. It would be a good thing to include actually...this isn't the first time I've undone that addition. It's a commonly taught school fact that "the field obeys inverse cube at distance" and many students (and non-thoughtful teachers) I know take that as a literal change of the laws of physics instead of an experimental artifact. MyCountry.co.uk does not make any profit. The linked photo galleries do not contain adverts in the main parts of the page. You delete those links but you allow links to flickr it seems? And you allow links to other plainly commercial websites like http://www.heatonmoor.com/  ? please explain these inconsistencies in your behaviour?

(1) I do not 'allow' or disallow links to any site, I simply follow WP policy and guidelines; the main one I am following in MyCountry.co.uk's case is WP:EL (2) not deleting an external link does not mean I think it should be there. Mistakes with VP

Hi Mr Stephen A friendly word of advice to chill a little with VP. It seems you've made a few errors using VP recently. It's all very well apologising to people afterwards for mistaken accusations of vandlism, but is it possible you can try to cut out the mistakes in the first place? I was also concerned by your use of a final warning issued (in error) to DemonicAnglian. Even if he had vandalised Spencer Prior, (which of course he didn't) a final warning by definition needs to follow earlier warnings. Anyway, thanks for helping to improve Wikipedia. The way to proceed is to upload the image to wikipedia, and then link to it. Of course, we can't break any copyright that the image may have. Re: IP 82.198.250.16, WP:AIV & blocks

Ahh, that one. Never hurts to ask, and you are more than welcome to seek a second opinion (AN/I would probably be the place to go, for a second look). At the time, AIV was backlogged quite a bit (an hour or more of backlog at AIV is something I consider a serious problem), so I was in a hurry. Per a pretty general consensus that blocking is intended to prevent further damage, than to punish abuse, I saw that the IP hadn't edited in around an hour (IIRC), and figured it was no longer a pressing problem. Especially with IP addresses, there's a good chance that they'll be using a slightly different address when they next come back, anyway. On the other hand, if I'd gotten there sooner, and that hour-long lapse in their editing hadn't developed, I probably would have blocked (something for us both to puzzle over, heh). Audio Mastering

My students and I are somewhat confused and dismayed by the removal of separation mastering from this section. The explanation of the process had generated much discussion and enthusiasm. A rudimentary search finds a quick half-dozen studios in Europe and the U.S using this process; http://www.massivemastering.com/html/rate_sheet.html, http://www.happenstanceproductions.com/services.html, http://www.stereomastering.com/mastering.htm, http://www.eaglemastering.com/pages/prices.html, http://musicpowers.com/mastering101.html, http://www.digitalsunspot.com/pdf/mastering_terms.pdf#search=%22%20%22separation%20mastering%22%22. It is ironic to note that many of these commercial mastering studios quote the (now removed) Wikipedia definition of separation mastering to define it on thier websites!

None of these studios using separation mastering mention any connection to a Mr. Vestman, nor did the original definition in Wikipedia. Since the May 06 EQ magazine article on separation mastering featured a Mr. Vestman I guess mentioning him would be a no-no. Whatever. But he was not mentioned. So we are at a loss and now a bit skeptical about the Wikipedia editorial policy. This is a generic mastering technique verifiably used by independent commercial studios here and abroad. And an informative explanation of it which also helps explain basic mastering potential problem areas is removed because "the editor thinks" it just promotes Mr. Vestman (Vestman "spam" was the derogatory term used)? And then comes Mr. Johnson who "hangs out" with "mastering engineers online" (completely unverifiable) and therefore "claims" it's "unimportant"? Really? If it is a verifiable mastering technique that studios are using (which it obviously is) then it just is and people deserve to know about it.

We fear the Wikipedia Audio Mastering topic has been comandeered by a few old school traditionalists who will limit it to their historical way of operating and will not give space to new ways of doing things. Whenever people like Mr. Johnson flipantly toss out that something is obviously not a good thing or is unimportant but yet more and more studios are doing it and a major audio magazine does a feature on it you have to conclude that there is some gatekeeping going on by stodgy old schoolers. This is a very sad dvelopment for Wikipedia. We thought Wikipedia existed to highlight all that's verifiably going on in the world, not just list what is deemed acceptable by self proclaimed experts. Please reinsert the information on separations and let the mysterious "online community of mastering engineers" who don't use it add their own entries to the section. Isn't that the way Wikipedia is supposed to work?

recent revert to United Kingdom

Hi - I recently accidentally reverted your own revert to the United Kingdom article. Due to consecutive edit conflicts, I got pretty confused so just persisted trying to implement the last proper version that I could see - namely the version number I specified in my edit summary. I apologise for any potential bad-faith that may have come about as a result - I assure you it was not deliberate!
