June 2015 edit

The issue of including Finnish names in articles about the Moomins has been discussed years ago. The books were written in Swedish, and although they were written in Finland, the Finnish language has no more connection to the books, or the names of characters in the books, than has any other language into which they have been translated. We don't list the names of the characters in French, Turkish, Japanese, Estonian, Tamil, ... There is no justification for treating Finnish any differently. I see that, without making any attempt to answer the point I have given above, you have continued to add mention of Finnish language to articles relating to Moomins. If you disagree with another editor, you should not just keep reverting to your own preferred version without giving any explanation. doing so, known as edit-warring, is considered disruptive, and can lead to being blocked from editing. The generally accepted practice is that if an editor makes a change to an article and another editor disagrees, then that second editor may revert the edit, explain their reason for doing so, and be prepared to discuss the issues. This preferred practice is commonly referred to in short hand as "Bold, revert, discuss". The word "bold" refers to boldly making a change one thinks is an improvement. This is not "Bold, revert, revert". Do you have any good reason for going against the practice, established long ago, of treating Finnish no differently from any other language into which the Moomins have been translated? Unfortunately, there has been a significant history of Finnish editors wishing to give their language greater prominence than other languages for nationalist reasons, but if you have a more legitimate reason then please explain what that reason is. (Note that the question of the language in which the books were written is completely separate from the questions of the nationality of the author and the geographical location where they were written.) Can you please explain why you are continuing to add references to Finnish to articles about Moomins? You have made no attempt at all to address what I said above. You should also be aware that repeatedly making the same edits in the face of reverts by other editors, known as edit-warring, is considered disruptive, and can lead to being blocked from editing. Ignoring concerns of other editors and just stubbornly repeating your own preferred edits without giving any explanation is not just something that some other editors may dislike, it is contrary to Wikipedia policy, and following policy when editing is a requirement, not an option. One more point. When content without any source is removed from an article, it must not be restored without providing a reliable source, as you did at Moomin (1990 TV series). Once again, this is a matter of policy, not just a personal preference. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 20:19, 10 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

August 2015 edit

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war at Moomin (1990 TV series). Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. 45.63.107.248 (talk) 16:50, 29 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
