December 2018 edit

Hello, I'm WelpThatWorked. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added to Ice hockey have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. {{unblock|1=I'm a new user and under "Ice Hockey"; I entered a few paragraphs about "Hockey Training" and "Hockey Coaching & Instructing" which did not exist before. I attempted to create this the other day and it was removed several times and each time I thought I corrected it; it got removed, again. I created a new account under ASBSpartan, but I did not know about the multiple accounts and how to remove the block on my MrBoxHockey account.

I'm fine with deleting 1 of the accounts to only have 1, but I could use some help. I'm only attempting to add factual information to the subject of Ice Hockey and not intentionally trying to abuse the system (I am accountable for the violation as I was/am not aware of all of the protocols....I just don't have time at this moment to read the entire rules and protocol as I think most people don't read the entire "Terms and Conditions" when they're installing or updating a new app or program).

Regarding the content of what I edited under "Ice Hockey"....I'm still confused as to why it's being removed if it's all factual and neutral information. "Hockey Training", "Hockey Coaching & Instructing" and "Stickhandling" are all true/factual topics related to and directly relevant to the subject of "Ice Hockey", that nobody has created within the topic of Ice Hockey. It is I have provided (cited) several sources, including a source of an expert in hockey training, coaching and stickhandling. I included topics that are also cited on other wikipedia pages, no different than going to the Wayne Gretzky page and seeing the content and references cited on that page under the subject of "Wayne Gretzky".

If you think that I have a (COI) because of my username or that I am the creator of a apparatus known as "box hockey"; please let me know how to address that. There is a page on the subject of "box hockey" that I did not create. It provides users with the history of the apparatus/game which dates back over 100 years. Any submissions I've made have been with the intent to contribute to the history and subject of box hockey and I just happen to be part of that history and try to contribute to the facts and history of the subject; not promoting myself or someone else.

Sean Skinner and his website www.SkinnerHockey.com is a legitimate reference to the subjects of Hockey Training, Stickhandling and Power Skating for any user that would like more information on the subject....I'm not promoting his name or website other than to cite my source of information, just as I did with the other citing of the topics/subjects of "dangle", "deke", and "USA Hockey" which are all other pages listed on Wikipedia.

I've also become aware of other leagues which are not listed under "Women's Hockey" which I would like to add my contribution to.

If you can highlight what part(s) of my submission you think are an abuse; it would help me to make the necessary corrections.

Please help me on this if you can....thank you. I don't know if these are supposed to be in parenthesis or inside the double brackets or outside the double brackets.

Thank you for your patience with me and my ignorance...like I said, I'm not intentionally trying to abuse the site; just attempting to contribute relevant, factual information and content that currently does not exist on Wikipedia.

Hello, I'm Agent00x. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Ice hockey have been undone because they appeared to be promotional.   You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you use Wikipedia for soapboxing, promotion or advertising, as you did at Ice hockey. shoy (reactions) 21:16, 19 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello MrBOXHOCKEY and welcome to Wikipedia. I think what a lot of us editors are objecting to here is that it seems like you are using Wikipedia to promote someone named "Sean Skinner" and a website. If this is true, you need to read WP:NOTADVERTISING and the conflict of interest message posted above. Wikipedia should not be used as a vehicle for self promotion. As well, the content you added was poorly sourced or not sourced at all. I encourage you to read about how important it is that all content on Wikipedia be verifiable at WP:V. If you can address these issues, we can help you moving forward. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 21:36, 19 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for advertising or promotion. From your contributions, this seems to be your only purpose.

You had five open unblock requests. That's abusive and a waste of our time. You are welcome to make one single unblock request at a time. One, not five. WP:CIR prohibits you from making five. --Yamla (talk) 11:14, 24 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Advice relating to your block edit

Both on this page and in your emails to me you have indicated that you do not understand why you are blocked from editing, and you have asked how you may become unblocked. I have already given you some comments at User talk:ASBSpartan, and I will now give you a few more comments, which I hope may be helpful.

You were blocked in the first instance by Jauerback, who may or may not like to give you further detail of the reasons for the block, but from looking at your editing history I think the reason is pretty clear. All of your editing related to Sean Skinner, the commercial product "Box Hockey", or both. A quick web search shows that Sean Skinner has been promoting Box Hockey. You repeatedly linked to their web sites and YouTube videos. Everything about your editing made it look as though you were trying to use Wikipedia to publicise them. Editing for such a purpose is contrary to Wikipedia policy. Your user name also suggests a connection. Perhaps that was not your intention, but that is certainly how it looked. Before you were blocked you received five messages from four different editors, explaining the concerns about your editing. You made no response to any of those messages, and continued editing in exactly the same way. In that situation there is not a lot we can do to get an editor to start taking notice apart from a block.

You posted five separate unblock requests at the same time, where one would have been enough. It is clear from what you said in at least one of those requests that you were not sure how to request an unblock, and thought that perhaps you had to post separate ones in reply to each editor's messages to you. Perhaps it would have helped if Yamla had given a little more explanation when he closed all the requests, but he did tell you that you could make one request at a time. You can still do that.

Your unblock requests were rather long and wandered around the subject, and taking all five of them together there was a good deal of repetition; all that makes it difficult for any administrator to work out what your points are, and he or she is unlikely to put a large amount of time and work into trying to figure it all out. It is far better to stick to a concise statement of the essential points. Also, if you did not take the advice to read the guide to appealling blocks before you posted your requests then I strongly suggest that you do so before making another unblock request, as it will give you a lot of information about what has a chance of succeeding. The really essential point, however, is that you have to indicate that (a) you understand the reason for the block and (b) you will not make the same mistakes again.

If an administrator does decide to accept an unblock request then you will probably not be allowed to continue with this user name, because rightly or wrongly it appears to suggest a connection with a business. It would be possible for you to request a change of name for this account, but since you already have another account (ASBSpartan) it would be simpler to just unblock that one and let you use it, if you and the unblocking administrator are both happy to do it that way. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 20:57, 31 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi JamesBWatson. Thank you for taking the time/your time, especially on New Year's Eve to send me your information above. I'm still confused how I can find a page on Microsoft, Google, Will Smith, etc....which I think somehow promotes their companies and brands, how I'm supposed to edit/contribute a section about "Stickhandling and various hockey training aids". I understand that some have stated it looks like I'm connected to Sean Skinner, but, I'm not connected to Sean Skinner. Years ago, he endorsed my product, but I do not receive any monies or other from him and he does not sell my product. Our paths crossed recently and I thought he should be recognized on Wikipedia because there's no reference to "Stickhandling" and he is by far the leading expert on the subjects of "stickhandling and hockey training"....if you have some other suggestion for me, I would appreciate any other insight.

As to recognizing why I was blocked several times, I acknowledged that I was new to contributing on Wikipedia and did not know all of the policies, as others mentioned that they don't know all of them.

I also, acknowledged the issue of having more than 1 account (ASBSpartan) and requested assistance on removing the newer account, but was made aware that wasn't possible.

I also made mention of any possible COI regarding box hockey as I was only stating a fact of the matter. Box hockey is an object that has been around for over 100 years, I don't know who wrote the 1st article/page on the subject, but I just happen to be the only commercial manufacturer....otherwise, it doesn't exist except for by DIY'ers. I just found a page on the Chevy Corvette and I would say it looks like anyone could view that as a promotion of the new Corvette and block contributions on that, but I don't know who started that page.

A friend of mine's sister, was a photographer of Punk Rock bands during the 80's and 90's. She died 20 years ago and I thought she made her mark on the world and should be in Wikipeia....Would I be able to author a page about her? or would it be considered a conflict of interest because her brother is my friend?

Any help that's more specific would help....thank you. Please correct me if I'm not signing-off correctly. "MrBoxHockey" MrBOXHOCKEY (talk) 23:19, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
