Worrying concern

Hi Gerbear,

I am writing as I have a worrying concern regarding something which you raised at Talk:Eurovision Song Contest 2014. You mentioned that you also write for escunited.com, which concerns me slightly. The project has used that website in the past for references unbeknown that you were also an editor for the website. I'm concerned that in using some of the articles knowing now that you're an editor for that website may have placed us in breach of WP:COI, as we are using sources which may have been written by a fellow member of Project Eurovision. Because of your admittance of being an editor for that website, you may have inadvertently placed yourself under scope of WP:OUTING, which needs to be handled with extreme caution for your personal safety more than anything. I had read one of the articles on that website regarding Conchita Wurst, which at the bottom of it clearly shows your Wikipedia user name, which any Wikipedian who knows you from here and were visiting that site would easily figure out your real identity. I have raised this with you as I sincerely care about your personal safety more than anything. Forgive me for bringing this to your attention, and I hope you may appreciate why I have done so. Wesley Mᴥuse 19:36, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Wesley. Thanks for your concern. I did keep the conflict of interest in the back of my mind but as I haven't specifically used any ESC United links in sourcing my edits (I link to the original source), we should be mostly fine. I only started working for ESC United this month, so any previous links to them are outside of this COI. I have edited my talk page now to declare that I write for them. I think going forward, news reports would be better sourced to other sites which carry the same information. It's no big loss.
As for concerns regarding my personal safety, again, thank you very much for your concern, but this is my online handle pretty much everywhere. I'm not all that worried with my internet life spilling over into real life, because they already overlap considerably. Thanks. c: Mr. Gerbear|Talk 00:24, 24 September 2013 (UTC)
Phew!!! I feel so relieved now after reading your response, as I was starting to get anxious and overly-worried about all of this. Indeed a declaration on your user page should help others be aware of your connections to ESC United, and thus avoid any potential COI's. From what I've gathered, COI's can become nasty business on Wikipedia. I value you as a Wikipedian friend, which is why I started to worry upon this revelation. I didn't want to see you become victim of any witch-hunts and end up facing blocking sanctions. On a side note, I did read your article on Conchita Wurst, and I must say I agreed 100% with the remarks you made about those commentators who posted negative things about the singer. You have my utmost respect for that! And again, my deepest thanks for stepping in at the right time over at ESC 2014 and the debate involving myself and another editor. It did frustrate me that deep in my mind I was trying to be helpful and address valid reasons as to why 2 out of the 3 countries warranted inclusion. But the more I tried to present those points, the more I could see them being dismissed and it was causing a serious headache. I'm one of those people who says things as it is, and with brutal honesty at times. Before my mother passed away, she always told me that it was best to speak the whole truth to people, no matter how brutal it came across, as honesty was the best policy and people would respect me more for that. I do get saddened when I have tried my best to seek a peaceful truce with the other editor, and that offering gets thrown back in my face time after time. I appreciate that they may be one of those editor's who likes to go it alone without being bothered by others. But in an environment like Wikipedia which is community-based and teamwork-orientated; then being in isolation will never work, it only alienates oneself from the rest of the community. Anyhow, keep up the good work, and I look forward to working with you more in the near future. Regards, Wesley Mᴥuse 00:42, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions

We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

Views/Day
Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
Quality
Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.

The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Content
Is more content needed?
Headings
Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
Images
Is the number of illustrative images about right?
Links
Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
Sources
For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!

Eurovision project discussion - "other awards"

Hey, in regards to the RFC which is closed at the "Eurovision Project" - it was said in it's conclusion that a significant support is to stay with a mixture of prose and tables for the "Other awards" section. If I understand correctly, you agreed to stick to prose only. Wethear I missundersttod you, wethear you did agree but changed your mind or wethear I did understand you correctly, I would be glad if you can clarify your position over there. אומנות (talk) 10:27, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
