Welcome to Wikipedia and Wikiproject Medicine

Welcome to Wikipedia from Wikiproject Medicine (also known as WPMED).

We're a group of editors who strive to improve the quality of medical articles here on Wikipedia. One of our members has noticed that you are interested in editing medical articles; it's great to have a new interested editor on board. In your wiki-voyages, a few things that may be relevant to editing Wikipedia articles are:

  • Thanks for coming aboard! We always appreciate a new editor. Feel free to leave us a message at any time on our talk page. If you are interested in joining the project yourself, there is a participant list where you can sign up. Please leave a message on the WPMED talk page if you have any problems, suggestions, would like review of an article, need suggestions for articles to edit, or would like some collaboration when editing!
  • Sourcing of medical and health-related content on Wikipedia is guided by our medical sourcing guidelines, commonly referred to as MEDRS. These guidelines typically requires recent secondary sources to support information; its application is further explained here. Primary sources (case studies, case reports, research studies) are rarely used, especially if the primary sources are produced by the organisation or individual who is promoting a claim.
  • Wikipedia is a kingdom full of a wide variety of editors with different interests, skills, and knowledge. We all manage to get along through a lot of discussion that happens under the scenes and through the bold, edit, discuss editing cycle. If you encounter any problems, you can discuss it on an article's talk page or post a message on the WPMED talk page.

Feel free to drop a note on my talk page if you have any problems. I wish you all the best on your wiki voyages! Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 16:52, 7 November 2016 (UTC) Many thanks Doc James!Reply

Thanks for the note!

Thanks for leaving me a note today! It has been nice meeting all the volunteers. I managed to get my comment re adding a new sentence to the dementia page posted, it is on the dementia talk page. Let me know what you think! I am still not sure if it was "me" that is the problem or a "computer glitch"!! Maybe a bit of both ;) Have a great rest of your day! JenOttawa (talk) 17:11, 8 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Great to know that you managed to get your comment posted.I think it must have been a glitch.:) You are well on your way to becoming an excellent wikipedian. Great job! Nice meeting you. :) --MonWiki (talk) 18:56, 10 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I am learning through making mistakes :) Luckily, people seem quite friendly. I was super nervous for my first few edits! It has been nice to meet you as well. I made a few edits today, as well as a comment on the medicine talk page. My comment is not directly related to an ageing page, but a good place to practice if you want to check it out! Have a great weekend!

I checked out your edits on falls. It is not in my field, but i think they generally looks good! I made a small suggestion to try to simplify the text a little (see talk section of falls). If you don't like it, no problem :), yours looks good too. Have a nice weekend! JenOttawa (talk) 02:59, 12 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your suggestion:) I have replied to you on the talk page of the article. I can totally relate to the nervouness you've described.Felt exactly the same way during my first edits.Thankfully everyone has been really friendly and helpful:) Have a great weekend!--MonWiki (talk) 21:03, 12 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your edit on the falls page!Wikilens (talk) 01:51, 13 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Medical Translation Task Force

edit

User:MonWiki, thanks for your interest in medical translations (as per this edit). Portugeuse (pt.wiki) is fairly well developed and cited, so there is less medical content in urgent need of translating. Here is a list of articles for which our project has well cited and vetted summaries, and those topics might be missing on pt.wiki. I stress might because that content might be found within existing articles (e.g., info on vaccines is often within the disease article) or might be titled differently. Step 1., look for a topic of interest on that list and then try to find it on pt.wiki. Step 2., if missing, access well cited and vetted summaries from this page and start a translation. There is a great Content Translation tool for wiki-to-wiki translation that I can coach you on. If the content on an existing page simply needs more citation or extra information, you can make edits as per normal and simply cite the en.wiki article in the edit summary. Don't be shy and message me for more help. --Lucas559 (talk) 18:20, 27 November 2016 (UTC) @Lucas559: Muito Obrigada (Thank you very much). If I have any questions, I'll surely message you.:)Reply

Punctuation

Per ou WP:MOS refs go after punctuation rather than before :-) Best Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 20:58, 30 November 2016 (UTC) @Doc James: Thanks! I still have a lot to learn.:)Reply

Please try to format like this[1] Best Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 02:20, 5 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Doc James: Thanks again for your help. :) I've followed your instructions and corrected my recent edits. --MonWiki (talk) 14:49, 5 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

The review on exercise you added to dementia is already once in the lead of the article and once in the top of the management section. Not sure we need it a third time. Best Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 04:08, 12 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Doc James: Apologies for missing that. Thanks! :) I am wondering if a sub-section on physical exercise could potentially make sense as it is becoming more popular recently, and an increasing body of research is focusing on it. Would it be appropriate to keep the sub-heading instead of the sentence in the top of the management section?--MonWiki (talk) 14:06, 12 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Are there more reviews that discuss such that we could make it more than one or two sentences? Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 19:22, 12 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Doc James:Yes, there are.:) I have found some reviews after a quick search on pubmed (links posted below). The conclusions on the abstracts seem to generally support the benefits of exercise in this population. I haven't read any of these full-texts yet, as I have been focusing on cochrane reviews for my edits. Therefore, I don't know if they are good quality or not. Thanks. --MonWiki (talk) 20:23, 12 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
