Welcome! edit

Hello, MolluskPal, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Constructing citations edit

Thanks for your contribution to Social construction of gender. Here are a few pointers regarding use of citations, in particular, the template {{cite journal}}:

  • ref name – While ref names like :4 used to be common in the early days of Wikipedia, these are frowned upon now as opaque and error-prone. Use something like Last-YYYY, e.g., <ref name="Jones-2018">.
  • When adding a citation, please provide either the url or the doi parameter of the {{cite journal}} template, or both, as this improves the ease of verifiability of your reference. (The Taylor and Francis url is https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/01596306.2014.940234, and the doi is 10.1080/01596306.2014.940234).
  • The |page= param of the {{cite}} template is for the page or pages of the article containing the content which verifies what you wrote prior to it. It's not intended for the beginning and ending page numbers of the article in the journal or book in which it appeared. If the information you used to write your material was on page 855, then you code just |page=855, regardless how long the article is.
  • When including param |volume=, normally one also includes |number=.

Hope this helps, Mathglot (talk) 09:14, 13 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
