Little London

edit

I wish I could tell you where the information on Little London came from but unfortunately I can't. What I can tell you is that the source stated the facts as laid out in that article. If they're wrong then change them: that's what this encyclopedia is about, though if someone else comes along afterward and points to the original source I used (wherever it is) and says what you've written is wrong, you need to be able to defend your version of history. -- Francs2000   23:59, 14 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, could you list your reference(s) for the article Lace school? Thanks, Melchoir 23:24, 15 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

That was quick! Sorry still a greenhorn in Wikipedia land - is that OK? Moleskin 23:34, 15 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Of course! I didn't mean to discourage you at all; an increasingly visible community like Wikipedia needs all the new help it can get. I just wanted to drop you a note while your source was fresh in your mind. Sometimes an article doesn't list its source, and its author goes missing, so no one is left to verify the material. Maps with dots on

edit

I have absolutely no idea, but I would look to the people who have been uploading the maps and ask one of them. Each image has its own page showing the full history of the image, for example this one for Aylesbury. There is also a category called GBdot showing all of the ones that have been uploaded to date. -- Francs2000   11:58, 27 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Oakley Chandos Arms.png. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. Thanks for clarifying that you did create Image:Oakley church.png. There's just one more question: What license will you use to release it? Generally, as a contributor to Wikipedia your contributions are licensed under the WP:GFDL, but you may also choose to release the photograph into the public domain or use a Creative Commons license. Please visit WP:ICT, pick a license tag, and edit the image page accordingly. RE:Oxford Senior League Division 1

edit

Hello! I hope you are feeling great! With regards to your question, the answer is a resounding YES. In fact, I am planning to create articles for ALL the divisions within the English football league system and eventually for the whole of the football world as well. However, a considerable amount of research is needed for this massive task and I am approaching this with a slow and steady attitude. In the meantime, you can also help out with this as well. Moreover, I am also planning to create articles for ALL the soccer clubs within the English system as well. --Siva1979Talk to me 13:51, 30 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

However, sometimes I feel that I am the only user in Wikipedia who has the passion for doing this. Most of the other users would object of this because of notability issues. I mean, which football fan would be interested in reading about lower league clubs or divisions in England as well as in the other countries? This is a niche area to be involed with. And when I see articles about non-legaue clubs in other countries being deleted, it pains me. However, I am confident that this mentality among users in Wikipedia would change in the future. --Siva1979Talk to me 14:24, 30 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oakley United F.C. (England)

edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Oakley United F.C. (England), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Oakley United F.C. (England) fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

Club does not meet WikiProject Football's notability criteria (see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Notability)

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Oakley United F.C. (England), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 17:47, 17 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi I noticed that you left a messsage on the articles talk page contesting the proposed deletion. However, in order to contest it you need to go to here - [1] where you will see that users leave comments and their vote (either voting Keep or delete). If you want to contest this then you need to go there and vote to Keep, but you also need to give valid reasons as to why you vote that way. (Please note also that the vote needs to be in bold) There is no point in leaving a message on the articles talk page as it won't be seen. Please also remember that you should sign any comments by adding four tildes (~) at the end of your message. Thank you. ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 15:23, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:Oakley_Post_Office.png

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Oakley_Post_Office.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:10, 8 November 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jusjih 02:10, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Sir Timothy Tyrrell (Snr)

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Sir Timothy Tyrrell (Snr), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. roleplayer 21:50, 4 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Charles Edmund Clutterbuck, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.stainedglassmuseum.com/collections/clutter.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. Proposed deletion of Elizabeth Tyrrell

The article Elizabeth Tyrrell has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Don't see how she is notable. Seems like she's only notable because her father is. Can't find her anywhere on Google either. Yields very few search results.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. "Not a village"?

edit

On what basis are you deciding that places widely known as villages are "not a village"? --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 11:34, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

The basis I was using was whether the text within the article said the place was a village or a hamlet. Also when possible I checked to see if there was a church at the place which normally differentiates a village and a hamlet. Moleskin (talk) 09:06, 15 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I agree if the text says hamlet. But whether or not it has a church is more than a bit dated. If a a place has grown from five houses to 500, is it still a hamlet until it gets a CoE church? --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 12:09, 15 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I must be showing my age with my village definition. My intention was to go through the 'Places In Buckinghamshire' wiki-page and ensure anything that said village was in category 'Villages in Buckinghamshire' and anything saying hamlet was in category 'Hamlets in Buckinghamshire'. Interesting question though, Skirmett for instance is now listed as a hamlet, but used to have an All Saints church (now a house), so was/is it a village still or a hamlet? I have no axe to grind whether something is a village or not, so I am happy if you wish to re-instate any categories. For your information, I am next about to update 'Places in Buckinghamshire' with the various districts and estates in MK. Moleskin (talk) 13:31, 15 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

No worries, my fault for overreacting when I saw so many changes with a terse edit summary. Short of wp:OR, there is no modern way to distinguish between hamlets and villages. A place is a town if the parish council says it is. A city used to need a cathedral, now it is not relevant.
Presumably you know about Category:Areas of Milton Keynes
The only 'estate' as such is Lakes Estate. Almost all the grid-squares had multiple developers/developments and have a variety of tenures (and some are mixed commercial/residential). --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 17:40, 15 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks John, please continue correcting me if I get things wrong . Moleskin (talk) 07:15, 16 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

In Buckinghamshire

edit

Surely you aren't asserting that villages in the Borough of Milton Keynes are not also in Buckinghamshire? --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 11:40, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

As above John, I looked at the article and if it said it was not a village, I removed from the category. I did realize that with Milton Keynes, there might be some places that are still called villages and are suburbs, estates, etc and vice versa. Moleskin (talk) 09:06, 15 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Many of the districts ["grid squares"] in MK have – by design – an original village (or hamlet!) at their heart. It is still a village, no matter what surrounds it. [The exception that proves the rule is Water Eaton, which was completely erased by LCC and/or Bletchley UDC (pre-MK)]. This question is what the Americans call moot because it was founded on a false premise: I misread your intentions: I thought you were removing all B of MK villages from Bucks. I ought to have come back to delete this subsection. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 12:09, 15 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

An article you recently created, Dorton Dons, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
