Why would we need a checkuser for Pepso and Pepso2, when they upload the same image? It's a duck. Corvus cornix 19:02, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

• Hey, how's it going. Sorry to bug you. I noticed this ANI report, and I noticed 21:24, 2 July 2007 Quadell (Talk | contribs | block) deleted "Image:Twograms.jpg" (uncontested rfu (CSD I7)) (Restore) Not sure what to do in this situation. Just thought that you'd want to know, and perhaps I can learn from this situation. I'm not sure if this qualifies as CSD G4. In my personal opinion, this is an image of living people, and is being used, not to discuss the artistic qualities of the physical photograph, but to simply illustrate the individual subjects of the photograph, and therefore could reasonably be retaken and licensed as free. So does this doesn't have to go through another RFU and wait 48 hours, does it? It can be speedily deleted?-Andrew c [talk] 17:51, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

It was deleted for being non-free and replaceable. We can't use those sorts of images on Wikipedia. An image is considered "non-free" if it's copyrighted and not explicitly released under a free license. (Almost all the images you find on the Web are non-free.) We can only use non-free images under a strict set of criteria. The first of these is, if a free image exists or could be created that could replace this image, then we can't use the non-free image. For example, a non-free photo of a living celebrity or a particular model of car would probably be replaceable, since the subject of the photo still exists and could be photographed by a Wikipedian. Photo and templates

Would like to add that the two people in the photo have given permission (I am one of them) so you can list the photo with my permission. For the person who removed it from the site initially - you should have asked before making a judgement. Since I am giving permission, it can go up on the site.

Michelle: Actually, it's a bit more complicated than that. I uploaded the photo as a copyrighted image in order to protect your copyright. However, it was deleted by a Wiki administrator because Wikipedia accepts "fair use" on some but not all copyrighted images. To reinstate, you should upload yourself and use one of the tags that create templates, as per Wikipedia policy. You might want to go to this page: Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Free licenses Click on the tags to see various ways you can make this your standard free publicity photo (as opposed to the non-free copyrighted image). Click on attribution or cc-attribution or GFDL to see differences in those templates before making a choice. I am not a Wikipedia administrator; instead, just trying to clarify this for you. Also: When you leave a message, type four tildes (~ ~ ~ ~ together with no spaces) and this will tack on your screen name and date. Pepso2 13:01, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
