Status and Advice

edit

Since I have an interest in academic biographies, I went to the trouble of rewriting this in the proper style. Note the following: 1.Press releases give the bio part at the end; `1e articles give it at the beginning. For WP, you need to start off first with a biographical section, giving their birthplace and a date, schools and dates from high school on, positions and dates, all in chronological order, not inverse chronological order. This has to be in the text, not just the infobox. Then a section describing their research, linking not just to their own work but to articles about their work from other people as well.

2. If their notability depends mainly on published books, list every such book, linking to their description in WorldCat, not the publisher or Amazon. Include links to reviews--published reviews in reliable sources (I usually try to give every such review I can find in an academic journal of major reliable publication like the NYT.) (I did not do this part--I leave it to you) We normally do not include articles if there are also numerous books, unless there is one or two of special importance.

3. Do not make pseudo links by saying "he was an editor of [X publication www.whatever]; this gives the false impression that X publication has a WP article. Write it as He was an editor of ''X publication'' [http.whatever]

4. That someone called a person an expert is not a good way of showing he is; rather, the accomplishments should show it,as they do here. Just include them. It gives a much stronger article and doesn't sound like a press release.

5. When you have a conflict of interest, you must declare it. I added a minimal template for this, but if you are paid to write this, you dneed to say so specifically according to our our Terms of Use, particularly with respect to paid contributions without disclosure . This is not optional.

You probably need to revise your earlier work with respect to the above points. I shall check back in a few days to make sure you have done that. I'm not about to spend my time as a volunteer writing properly the articles you are (presumably) being paid to write. I did some of it it just this once as an example. December 2016

edit

  Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Robert C. Hockett. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks! Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Mjwill46. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Robert C. Hockett, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:03, 2 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Also note that biographical articles should be in chronological order, whereas this draft is in inverted chronological order. This is a biography, not a resume. Background and education come first, then career highlights in the order they occurred; likewise for publications. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:30, 19 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
