edit

You appear to be a new editor with only two edits so far, one of which on Handel, has been reverted by another editor.

There are a couple of things to be aware of here: the lead (sometimes written "lede") paragraph is designed to be a summary of the article and, therefore, does not need the kind of detail that tried to substitute. While I doubt that what you did write was inaccurate (I'm much more involved with 19th century Italian composers' work), when ever major changes are planned, it is a good idea to post the idea upfront on the article's "Talk" page and obtain a consensus from other editors.

Also, your additions and changes did not contain many (if any?) Wiki-links to appropriate articles, as you can see exists in the restored version.

If you are serious about working on opera articles, you may want to join the Wikipedia:WikiProject Opera group - or, at least take a look at the opera articles' guidelines which have evolved by consensus since I started working on them in 2005. Viva-Verdi (talk) 21:24, 3 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

I have more experience

edit

I appreciate your advice, however, I know much more about Opera than you do. I may only have a few edits on wikipedia, I studied opera for 14 years in college, and I have a PHd. So I am More qualified to do this than you are.

I assume that this was written by Missmajorasmask, though unsigned. When you write something, please sign with four tildes (i.e. ~ ~ ~ ~) but keep them all together, no spaces.
If you're addressing this to me, Viva-Verdi, I'm curious how you think that you know more about opera than I do. However, while I've admitted not being a Handel expert, that is immaterial in reference to your removal of the lead paragraph of the article - which also removed links and references.
In regard to the Handel article, you'd have been on much safer ground to go ahead and expand the sections below the lead with the information on Handel's life which you provided. The idea of the lead is that it a summary of the article, so that a casual reader who comes across it would get a sense of what is to follow.
My comments above were only trying to help you as a new editor by providing a few guidelines, which by consensus of 10 to 15 editors of opera articles, have evolved over the past few years. It was clear that your first go at this was immediately reverted (and not by me, I'd add). But I hope that you will continue with your PH-D-based contributions. All are welcome. Autopatrolled

edit

Hello Missmajorasmask, welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed that you added yourself to Category:Wikipedia autopatrollers. The autopatrolled user right is intended for experienced editors who have created at least 50 valid articles. I appreciate the enthusiasm, but you just got here, and you don't qualify for that user right (not yet, anyway). Howicus (Did I mess up?) 23:43, 3 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
