Hillimericks

edit

Hello. If you're the user who was anonymously adding mentions of "Hillimericks" to the Limerick (poetry) article earlier today, then it's good to see you've registered an account, and welcome to Wikipedia!

However, you must be aware that external links are just as strictly controlled (if not more so; again, you can imagine we get a lot of people trying to add links to their site). Please read the message I left on User_talk:213.36.233.252. And please exercise caution before advertising Hillimericks again; I'd suggest leaving a message on Talk:Limerick (poetry) before editing the article further. Thanks. --McGeddon (talk) 21:23, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Incidentally, the links you added to the article didn't appear to mention the book you mentioned, or to have anything to do with the subject; they were both to "franglo.com", which seems to be a "classifieds network for expats and internationals". --McGeddon (talk) 21:26, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your information. I am tired now but will keep trying. I noticed that someone from India had provided the link Newsmericks which led me to a Blogspot blog page. I was encouraged by this and I thought it would be appropriate to include a link via our blog page. It leads directly to Hillimericks and I thought it would be accepted by the Wikipedia mechanism. Hillimericks and Homage to Edward Lear are genuine, copyright publications. We are not trying to sell anything!! Merely provide information. The word 'Hillimericks' invented by my husband the poet Simon R Gladdish, is currently being considered for inclusion in the next Oxford English dictionary. Perhaps I'll try again tomorrow.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Mirontaine (talkcontribs) 22:56, 29 January 2009

Please read our conflict of interest policy before contributing further to Wikipedia. It doesn't matter whether you're selling anything; using Wikipedia to promote your own work is a misuse of its "anyone can edit" ethos.
I'm not sure how the joke title of a weblog would get into the OED, but if it does, feel free to come back and add that to the article when it happens. --McGeddon (talk) 11:11, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
You're absolutely correct that you're in a similar position to "Newsmericks" - this particular link was evidently overlooked (there's a natural tendency for Wikipedia editors to question new links more readily than old ones), and I've now removed it.
If you have any further questions or comments, I'd recommend raising them on the article's talk page. Thanks. --McGeddon (talk) 22:38, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Limerick (poetry) has been reverted.

Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. The external links I reverted were matching the following regex rule(s): \bblog(?:cu|fa|harbor|mybrain|post|savy|spot|townhall)?\.com\b (links: http://www.hillimericks.blogspot.com). If the external link you inserted or changed was to a blog, forum, free web hosting service, or similar site, then please check the information on the external site thoroughly. Note that such sites should probably not be linked to if they contain information that is in violation of the creator's copyright (see Linking to copyrighted works), or they are not written by a recognised, reliable source. Linking to sites that you are involved with is also strongly discouraged (see conflict of interest).

If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 22:31, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
