Thank you for uploading File:Win7-OStan.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

Greetings! Sorry to be very blunt, but you've recently made a very large number of edits that seem to contradict Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages). Propionic vs propanoic

Mikespedia, I notice that you've been moving a lot of propionic acid-related pages over to propanoic acid names recently. Personally, I don't have a particular objection to this, though I didn't mind the older name either. However, can I recommend that for such a major change, you first raise the topic on the main article talk pages, and ideally contact the WikiProject at WT:CHEM first? This would ensure that you don't upset lots of people!

In your edit summaries you have said "Propanoic acid is more common and systematic, while propionic acid is old usage and should not be used even if it is how propane is named." Propanoic acid is indeed more systematic, but I have learnt that judgement of "old usage" is very local to particular groups and locations. For example, in the US, propionic acid is the name used by major chemical suppliers (Fisher/Acros, Aldrich, Alfa Aesar and TCI America) - clearly these suppliers consider that their customers use the traditional name. Finally, you say that the name "should not be used" - what source do you have for that? Wikipedia follows the IUPAC system for naming (see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (chemistry)), and IUPAC explicitly allows use of the name propionic acid (see [1]). If this rule has been updated recently, please let me know. You should be aware that several Wikipedia editors are now working with IUPAC to help formalize naming systems more systematically.

On balance, this is one case where most chemists I know are comfortable with either name, so I don't expect any problem, but I think it's best to raise the issue first if you plan any major renames in the future. People can get extraordinarily touchy about their favourite names! Cheers, Walkerma (talk) 03:40, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Argh - sorry, meant to put this on the fluticasone propionate page specifically, I will mention it there also. In addition to the issues concerning IUPAC conventions, I note that fluticasone propionate is the name used by most manufacturers, as well as being essentially the only name currently used in the medical scientific literature.
