March 2014 edit

Hello, I'm GimliDotNet. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions because it appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. GimliDotNet (Speak to me,Stuff I've done) 20:54, 20 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

I have been working hard to update stuff and you deleted a whole page with links and everything; actually a number of pages. Why would you do that? What is wrong with having a sci-fi/fantasy page? It isn't strictly fiction or fantasy; it is an overlap that I was trying to convey. You are marking them as advertising which is unfair because the things I'm editing are as real in a literal sense as anything else on Wiki. Thank you for ruining my day!!!

(Example) Please see Orcs: first Blood. This is very similar to my articles, although incomplete.

Proposed deletion of Darkster edit

The article Darkster has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Self promotion, none notable ebook

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Please don't delete this page. I am in the process of working on several with links throughout. The novels I am listing are part of sci-fi/fantasy genre that happen to overlap a number of books, movies, and fictional worlds. This is not advertising. If it was then everything on wiki is advertising. I am working on creating a whole sci-fi/fantasy page as an abbreviation to science fiction and fantasy.

(Example) Please see Orcs: first Blood. This is very similar to my articles, although incomplete.

Your contributed article, Star trek starfleet battles edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Star trek starfleet battles. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Star Fleet Battles. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Star Fleet Battles – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Eyesnore (pc) 21:37, 20 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Self-promotion edit

By your username, I am assuming that you are the author of the books you are putting on Wikipedia. Please understand that editing about things you are personally involved with is seen as a conflict of interest. It can even be seen as you trying to spam Wikipedia in an attempt to promote yourself. This is probably where the concerns of self-promotion are coming from, as it's very common for authors to come on here and add their works in an attempt to get more attention for themselves. The page does not have to be blatantly promotional for people to believe that it is made with the intent to promote someone/something. You may have come on here with genuine good faith, but whenever you post about something you've made it tends to look like self-promotion... especially when the only things that come up via a search are posts you've made in various different places telling people to pick up your book. That's what really makes this look like spam, to be honest.

I've looked at the pages for the books and they just don't pass notability guidelines for books. (WP:NBOOK) They exist, but existing is not notability. (WP:ITEXISTS) I don't see where these works have received coverage in places that Wikipedia would consider to be reliable. I understand that it's difficult for small, indie, and/or self-published titles to gain coverage, but Wikipedia is not the place to go about trying to drum up interest and coverage for your works. As far as there being other pages on Wikipedia about similar subjects, please be aware that the existence of other pages on Wikipedia does not mean that this page should remain. (WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS) All that might mean is that the other pages either haven't been nominated for deletion or they pass notability guidelines by way of having received coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. Also, please note that your books do not inherit notability by covering similar materials, genres, or topics as pre-existing books/films/media that have achieved notability. (WP:NOTINHERITED) Copying the layout of another Wikipedia page does not guarantee that your articles will be kept, as again- those other works might pass notability guidelines for works in ways your books do not.

I wish you well, but it's simply too soon for you to go about adding your works to Wikipedia at this point in time. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 03:38, 22 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
