date issue

Hi, you wrote, "that same guideline states point blank that it is one of the two acceptable dating methods." Please note that WP:DATERET states that "The date format chosen by the first major contributor in the early stages of an article should continue to be used, unless there is reason to change it based on strong national ties to the topic." That means you shouldn't change the date format unless you have a good reason to do so. Hence my warning not to do it again without a good reason. You mentioned that you read it, but your previous response didn't indicate an understanding of what it meant, because you seemed to assume that the general principle overrode any importance of the third principle, whereas the principle (and the guideline as constructed) operates the other way around, with the third principle modifying the general principle. Thanks, Good Ol’factory (talk) 06:57, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

I know what you meant and why in the first place you felt compelled to stalk my contributions and bring up this guideline (not policy) and petty formatting nonsense, even after I had already archived the discussion. You don't even need to mention it. In future, try not to WP:WIN so much; the encyclopedia is not about that. And making a meal out of minor formatting changes only serves to further highlight the seriousness of your own various actual policy breaches. Let it go already. I don't find it to be a petty issue. Usually, when an editor is "refusing to get it" on one issue, you can count on there being other issues in a similar vein, and it appears to me that there were here. If it troubles you to admit a mistake, that's fine, but I wanted to give you fair notice. Good Ol’factory (talk) 07:56, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I realize you see nothing wrong with hounding the contributions of another editor that you are involved in a separate dispute with for completely unrelated minor formatting changes -- a dating format which is not even in itself prohibited by the very guideline (not policy) that you yourself brought up -- i.e. literally "following another user around". But this too, unfortunately, won't obscure the larger, actual policy breach of misuse of administrative tools. Middayexpress (talk) 08:20, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
