Welcome! edit

So great to see another Wikimedian in residence - would you be interested in introducing yourself at our next meta:WREN meeting? In any case it would be great to hear what you are up to and how we can help. - Fuzheado | Talk 00:32, 3 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Queering Wikipedia 2023 edit

Hi Michaela! I am not sure if you heard of open call for Queering Wikipedia 2023 conference, but it would be nice if you would consider contributing.

We are doing an Office Hour on the topic today and we would love to have you join as we try to encourage people from SP and PT language communities to present also in their languages, especially if they deal with LGBTIQ+ topics on SP/PT Wikipedia, but also other Wikimedia projects.

Best wishes Z. Blace for QW2023 org team --Zblace (talk) 11:30, 13 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks so much for sharing the call. Unfortunately, I was not able to submit a proposal but will be there in attendance on May 12, 14, and 17. Best! MichaelaBlanc 20:53, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Marcela Cantuária moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Marcela Cantuária, is not suitable as written to remain published. It appears there is a WP:UPE or WP:COI conflict. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, and have addressed the UPE/COI issue, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. As per WP policy, please do not move into mainspace yourself. Onel5969 TT me 13:13, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello, and thanks for your concern. However, as stated and open to everyone in my user page, I am a Wikimedian in Residence and public figure within Wikimedia projects. That said, your suggestion for a WP:UPE or WP:COI cannot be applied to this situation. My activities are disclosed and the institution I currently provide services for does not intervene in my editing choices. In terms of notability, based on the quality of citations and extensive list of sources, the page Marcela Cantuária is suitable to remain published. Again, there is no WP:UPE or WP:COI conflict. MichaelaBlanc 19:22, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Onel5969: perhaps you did not see my message. WP:CURATOR says: "Museum curators, librarians, archivists, and similar are encouraged to help improve Wikipedia." Also WP:COI continues: "There are forms of paid editing that the Wikimedia community regards as acceptable. These include Wikipedians in residence (WiRs)—Wikipedians who may be paid to collaborate with mission-aligned organizations, such as galleries, libraries, archives, and museums." I believe this article was improperly moved to the Draft space. Regards, Michaela MichaelaBlanc 18:01, 14 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
While this is not discouraged on WP, you still must comply with the COI guidelines, since it still is a category of COI/PE. You have complied with the WiR portion, but still must follow [WP:DISCLOSE]]. But I could be interpreting that incorrectly, am pinging an admin with much more expertise in this area: MER-C, for their opinion. Onel5969 TT me 22:01, 14 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Correct. You should still disclose if you are a WIR. MER-C 16:19, 15 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
@MER-C: @Onel5969 moved my neutral, well-sourced article back to AfC despite the full disclosure you asked for. Where is the policy position that every WIR has to go through AfC if they write about something merely tangentially connected to their institution (e.g. an artist who exhibited at a museum)? Thanks! Disambiguation link notification for April 6 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Tunga (artist), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Palmares. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Group shows in artist bios edit

Hi Michaela! Thank you so much for all your contributions to art-related articles on here, always glad to see folks with museum/academic backgrounds. I just wanted to note that some of the more detailed information about group shows you've added to artist bios might not be totally in line with the Manual of Style. In artist bios, participation in group shows is generally only relevant when it was particularly historically notable or impactful for an artist's career (i.e. Marcel Duchamp's participation in the original Armory Show, or Peter Bradley's participation in The De Luxe Show), in addition to notable/historically significant Biennials/Triennials (Venice, Whitney, Documenta, etc.). For example, you added a recent group show to the Félix González-Torres article, but information about that show really belongs in the article for Joan Didion. If a living artist who participated in the group show spoke at length about their work's connection to Didion, then it would make sense to mention the show and the artist's participation, as it gives insight into that artist's practice. Otherwise, when group shows like this are added to the articles for most/all of the artists who participated, artist bios end up just becoming extensive lists of exhibitions with no real context on the artist. There's some basic guidelines available at MOS:Exhibitions, but I just wanted to be sure you don't put in a lot of work adding group shows to artist bios just to have them removed. Again, I really appreciate your contributions! Happy editing :) 19h00s (talk) 02:31, 16 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello @19h00s: thanks so much for your message! I appreciate you taking the time to share these resources, examples, and considerations with me. I will follow the Manual of Style for Visual Arts thoroughly moving forward. Likewise, thanks for your contributions! It's always nice to find other Wikimedians interested in contemporary art. Very best! MichaelaBlanc 13:57, 17 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Adding wikilinks in multiple successive edits edit

Regarding your recent edits to Dawoud Bey, where you added one wikilink per edit, can you please instead add all of the wikilinks in one single edit? Also, when adding only wikilinks you should check the box that marks your edit as "minor". Thanks Lopifalko (talk) 16:47, 16 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

August 2023 edit

Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. A page you recently created, Karon Davis, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for new pages, so it has been moved to ''Draft:Karon Davis'' where you can continue to work on it. Please consider using the Article Wizard or the Articles for Creation procedure. For more information about creating articles, you may want to read "Your first article". You may also want to read our introduction page to learn more about contributing. Thank you. Asparagusus (interaction) 18:41, 16 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello! I'm sorry to do this, but the article did not seem to be finished. If you have any objections, I can move it back. Asparagusus (interaction) 18:43, 16 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome! Have a good day/night! :) Asparagusus (interaction) 23:53, 16 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi MichaelaBlanc! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Edits issue on Quisqueya Henríquez edit

Hello, Firstly I want to thank you for your work here. I have noticed we edit some of the same artist biographies. Yesterday you had added two edits to the Quisqueya Henríquez article, however there was an issue with how you set up the citations. Those two edits broke the existing citations and everything linked became jumbled. I reverted the edits in order to repair the existing citations (through renaming each one), and then I added back some of your content. The part I did not add back included the private commercial gallery representation, since that is not encyclopedic content (it falls into advertising). Also we try to avoid the term "permanent" here when referring to museum collections. Let me know if you have any questions, and I am sorry for any confusion. PigeonChickenFish (talk) 23:18, 12 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Also you had added a quote from the curator but I did not see that quote in the source provided, so its possible that was lost in the citation mix up also? PigeonChickenFish (talk) 23:24, 12 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
@PigeonChickenFish: Hi! Thanks so much for flagging this issue and my apologies for the mess up. I really enjoy having common interests with you. I was working on an article for Quisqueya Henríquez in the past weeks and was thrilled to see it was up. I'll get back to it and find the quote. I appreciate your thorough work. Very best! Speedy deletion nomination of Leslie Martinez edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Leslie Martinez, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Leslie Martinez moved to draftspace edit

Thanks for your contributions to Leslie Martinez. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it has no sources and notability needs to be established. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. CycloneYoris talk! 19:56, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello, MichaelaBlanc,
We don't have redirects from main space to Draft space. Wikipedia doesn't want to direct readers to Draft space as this is a rather protected area where editors can freely work on creating and improving draft articles. It's not a place where we want to send readers to so redirects from main space to Draft space are routinely deleted as Speedy deletion CSD R2.
If you have further questions, please bring them to the Teahouse. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 20:43, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
