Edit of Battle of Plassey article edit

Your recent edit of this article may need to be rectified. When Siraj-ud-Daulah was the Nawab of Bengal, the present day Indian states of Bihar and Orissa did not exist. They were part of the Province of Bengal. Also, the present name of Calcutta is Kolkata, and the references in the article you have changed are to the present day city.

So can you please revise the article to its state prior to your changes? mkamat 16:27, 16 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kolkata and Calcutta edit

Hi! Mhchintoo. Thanks for your contributions in Wikipedia. However, I beg to differ with you in one regard. You are changing the term Kolkata to Calcutta in many articles. While this is not wrong, the problem is many page-headings contain Kolkata, rather than Calcutta. So, if you change from Kolkata to Calcutta in wikilinks, the wikilink becomes red. For example, you changed Geography of Kolkata to Geography of Calcutta, which is non-existent. So I request you to please refrain from this changes. However, in all the articles related to Kolkata or mentioning Kolkata, it should be mentioned at least once that Kolkata ia same as Calcutta, as Calcutta is a much more internationally known term than Kolkata.

You can see this discussion Talk:Kolkata/Archive_7#Requested_move to see how and why the decision to use the term Kolkata was taken. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:22, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
