Operation Maccabi and Latrun battle

edit

Hi Mewnews,
I am currently developing the article about the battles of Latroun on wp:fr : fr:Bataille de Latroun (1948).
I am a little bit lost about the chronology of the events between May 9 and May 16 (in particular during operation Maccabi).
Could you help me ? Maybe you also have access to he sources, such as Levi or Itzchaki ?
For what I know :

  • 9.5 attack of Deir Mahsin by a battallion of Harel brigade (by Sha'ar HaGai battalion ?) (fall of the village on 11.5)
  • 9.5 attack of the hills north and south of Bab al-web/Sha'ar HaGai by Harel Sha'a HaGai battalion - heavy artillery fire from the ALA (and british armoured cars) - Harel soldiers dig in.
  • 11.5 Deir Mahsir falls
  • ??.5 Harel units enter and take Deir Ayyub (after heavy fights ?)
  • ??.5 Harel units withdraw from Deir Ayyub (voluntary ?)
  • ??.5 what else did Harel units ?
  • 11.5 - 14.5 some trucks succeed in passing through Jerusalem (19 trucks ?) - I think dubious : how would it be possible with ALA at the village of Latrun
  • 14.5 Guivati 52e (?) bat. attack and take Abu Shusha and al-Na'an
  • 14.5 ALA starts leaving Latrun-Deir Ayyub-Deir Nuba triangle
  • 14.5 British leave Latrun police fort
  • 15.5 Guitavi 52e (?) bat. attack and take al-Qubab
  • 15.5 morning : a Guivati unit enter police fort (abandoned) - reported by Lapierre and Collins - I think dubious : I would have expected a Harel unit
  • 15.5 ALA has left L-DA-DN triangle
  • 15.5 unknown time : 11th garrison company of the Arab Legion take Latrun (it had not left Palestine)
  • 15.5/16.5 during the night : a "unit" of 40 legionnaires and 200 beduins from the 4th regiment take Deir Ayyub
  • 17.5 4e regiment take control of the L-DA-DN triangle

I would also highly appreciate if you could have a look at the maps in the article and tell me if there is not big mistake...
Thank you in advance ! Ceedjee (talk) 19:53, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
