  Hello, I'm Drchriswilliams. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to the page Crowdfunding, because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Conflict of interest in Wikipedia

edit

Hi Melodyafsana I work on conflict of interest issues here in Wikipedia. Based on your edits to date it is very obvious that you are affiliated with myfundnow.com. I'm giving you notice of our Conflict of Interest guideline and Terms of Use, and will have some comments and requests for you below.

  Hello, Melodyafsana. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
  • instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you.

Wikipedia is a widely-used reference work and managing conflict of interest is essential for ensuring the integrity of Wikipedia and retaining the public's trust in it. As in academia, COI is managed here in two steps - disclosure and a form of peer review. Please note that there is no bar to being part of the Wikipedia community if you want to be involved in articles where you have a conflict of interest; there are just some things we ask you to do (and if you are paid, some things you need to do).

Disclosure is the most important, and first, step. While I am not asking you to disclose your identity (anonymity is strictly protecting by our WP:OUTING policy) would you please disclose your connection with myfundnow.com? After you respond (and you can just reply below), perhaps we can talk a bit about editing Wikipedia, to give you some more orientation to how this place works. Please reply here - I am watching this page. Thanks! Jytdog (talk) 01:39, 28 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Melodyafsana - you have continued editing since I left you this note, and have continued adding content about myfundnow.com. I will give you another chance to respond here, but if you keep editing as you have without replying here and working with me to manage your COI, I will seek to have you indefinitely banned from Wikipedia as a purely promotional account - you are violating the WP:SOAPBOX policy, and you appear to be violating the COI guideline and the WP:PAID policy. Please stop what you are doing and talk with me here. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 18:27, 28 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Further warnings March 2016

edit

  Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, talk pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments, as you did at User talk:Drchriswilliams, is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Drchriswilliams (talk) 13:46, 28 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

  Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Comparison of crowdfunding services. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Drchriswilliams (talk) 14:03, 28 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

  Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (  or  ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. Drchriswilliams (talk) 14:40, 28 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

  Please do not delete or edit legitimate talk page comments, as you did at User talk:Drchriswilliams. Such edits are disruptive and appear to be vandalism. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Drchriswilliams (talk) 15:07, 2 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

  Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Crowdfunding. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Blocked

edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for advertising or promotion. From your contributions, this seems to be your only purpose. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 06:47, 16 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • I have blocked you because you have been repeatedly warned not to add content about MyFundNow to Wikipedia, to the point where a thread was opened at WP:COI/N concerning your editing. While I am aware that you are a new user, repeated warnings of the type given above and in other people's talk pages are usually a good sign that it's better to stop trying to add the content into Wikipedia rather than to continue on in this path. Now it's possible that you might be unblocked, but you'd have to show that you understand the reason for your block, that you will not try to add this content directly to Wikipedia in the future, and that if people warn you that your editing is seen as problematic, that you will stop and try to figure out what's going on before continuing on with the same behavior. You'll also need to give us an example of how you will edit Wikipedia. Saying that you will continue to try to edit on MyFundNow isn't a very good idea, as there does seem to be a strong conflict of interest here (WP:COI) and to be honest, a search provides little to show that the company would currently pass notability guidelines - a requirement for mention on Wikipedia. You would also need to be transparent about your editing, since it seems likely that you have a conflict of interest here and I don't think you ever actually answered questions about this - despite at least one editor directly asking you about your COI.
