Help me!

Please help me with...I am a public affairs specialist at U.S. Army Garrison Fort A.P. Hill and have been trying to update and monitor the Fort A.P. Hill wiki page since 2011. The major issue we are having is that people are adding irrelevant and in most cases illogical information to the Garrison wiki page. While Boy Scout Jamboree’s were held here, it seems that is all the people who don’t know about the Fort wish to post on the wiki. We are and have been a U.S. Army training Post that has trained hundreds of thousands of warriors to fight overseas year after year. Individuals continue to post irrelevant photos about the boy scouts. They constantly delete relevant links that the Office of the Chief of Public Affairs has asked us to link. What can I do to help individuals understand that Fort A.P. Hill trains 90,000 warriors a year to fight terrorism and stop posting illogical irrelevant information on this page?

@Meisberger: Hi! I don't see any evidence that the section about the Jamboree is irrelevant or illogical. Can you link to specific changes that you think are problematic?

In general it's usually best to resolve these differences on the talk page of the article, though - not necessarily by shopping for positive opinions elsewhere :)

And just a warning - talking about "fight[ing] terrorism" may not meet the requirements of WP:NPOV. I'm not saying that the article currently doesn't - it seems fine - but something to watch out for. Also, the CPA's opinion shouldn't really have any bearing on what external links are or are not included in the article - they should be relevant, helpful links to information about the fort.

Meisberger, the best way to take forward the discussion is to start a new section on the page here. It's worth having a read through some of the introductory help material first, though: have a look at some of the links off here, for example, as they may give you some useful background on how the wiki works. MarkTraceur & Hchc2009, Thank you both for the input and links. I do understand exactly what you are saying. I think I get the overall idea of a wiki but, I am still learning. The problem I have is that I tried to change the original photo that I took of the base sign…and was then changed to Wilcox Camp that only housed the Jamboree once and then it was moved. The photo is not conducive of what AP Hill does or is. Does that make sense?

I think that I understand the point that you're making. The way to progress it is to start a section on the talk page, and explain, as you have done here, why you think your proposed image is a better way to illustrate the encyclopaedia article than the current one. If you get a consensus (i.e. most people agree with you) then you can make the change; if you don't get a consensus (i.e. most people disagree with you) then the article should stay as it is. It may take a little bit of patience, but the discussion and debate usually produces the right sort of answer. Hchc2009 (talk) 16:58, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

Mr. Meisberger -- some comments. While the Army's desire to produce a focused public relations product regarding Fort A. P. Hill is understandable, what is not clear (to me at least) is why the Army would (might?) assume that en.wikipedia.org exists as a platform to support said desire. The statements about Fort A. P. Hill's current mission are entirely correct and should be the primary content of any article discussion regarding current activities and mission -- however, past events such as the Jamboree can and should also be mentioned. Ideally, such mention would be presented in a way that makes clear that support of the Boy Scouts was only a peripheral aspect of the Fort's mission -- but mention of these other activities should not be edited out of the article. It is all part of the Fort's history, even if only a minor aspect -- certainly not "irrelevant" or "illogical". Cheers, W. B. Wilson (talk) 19:16, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

@W. B. Wilson: :@MarkTraceur:Hi, guys! I have taken a while to reply, because, I have been watching and learning. A wiki is, theoretically, an on-line collaborative effort to share information. The wiki allows us to create various pages that are specific to hyper-specific. If I came to Wikipedia looking for Boy Scout information I would not type in the search term “Fort A.P. Hill.” My search terms would be “Boy scout” “scouts” “Jamboree”, etc. ad nauseam. Ergo the reason why “Boy Scouts of America” and “National Jamboree” are separate wiki pages. National Jamboree can then, and is, expanded into years, locations, even VIPs who attended. What was occurring on the Fort A.P. Hill wiki page, was a history of the National Jamborees on the garrison. The Boy Scouts of America Jamborees does deserve a mention on the Fort A.P. Hill wiki page, along with appropriate links to the corresponding wiki specific pages. However, it had gotten way out of hand. There was more Scout information on the Fort A.P. Hill wikipage than Garrison information. The people who were adding to the page were illogical because they kept the page lacking a clear message / clear focus. (By definition) Their reasoning was incorrect based on the very form of the wiki. The page was quickly becoming irrelevant (By definition) because it was being populated with unrelated material to Fort A.P. Hill. ;) This has nothing to do with US Army or a public relations product but the very form of a wiki. We could argue semantics all year long but the bottom line is Wikipedia is about specific topics having unique pages broken out into more and more specific information pages. Help me!

Would it be appropriate to list all of the US Army level awards (and above) the Garrison has secured? Please help me with... I have not seen a list of awards on other Garrison wiki pages. Would it be a waste of time and space to do so? If it is OK to list the awards, should they be listed in bullet or paragraph format? Thanks in advance for your kind assistance.
