insulin image

And now I have a question. Your image at insulin suggests that the cascade of effects from the insulin receptor occurs in the cytoplasm. It was my understanding that the glucose uptake control mechanism was a blockage of expression of an inhibitory gene, which allowed the otherwise blocked gene to express a protein which enabled glucose absorption. Did you feel that was too complex to present in the diagram? ww 17:17, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

M, My understanding of the intracellular insulin mechanism was based on an account of the mechanism in c elegans, read some years ago, and on the mechanism of action of the drug group (Rezulin, Actos, etc). I agree that there would be time scale differences between the mechanism you note and the gene modulation business, but haven't had time to ponder the question much.

Yes there is a way to change IP only edits to a registered user, but sad to say, I've never learned how to do it. I suggest a note to the admin request page, or ask an admin you know. (You can drill down from the community portal to bind lists of admins and the admin mrequest page). ww 04:35, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
