Help re signature edit

{{helpme}} I always sign my contributions, however a recent one was picked up by a bot and marked as 'the preceding comment was made by meigwil etc etc...'.
The signature was my name with a timestamp, but no link. here's the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Caernarfon_Castle

SineBot will add that to comments made without a signature that contains a user page link. Are you using ~~~~ to make your signature? That's the best way to sign your comments on talk pages because it will automatically add your name with a link to user page and the date and time. If you are, and it's still not creating a link to your user page, check your signature under your preferences and make a change there. Please let me know if there are any more questions. Thanks! --Mysdaao talk 12:41, 29 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
(e/c) Hi Meigwil. You didn't sign your post here though:-) It appears that you are signing manually, rather than letting the software do the work for you. Just type four tildes (~~~~) after a post and this will automatically format as your linked signature when you save, and will not trip the bot. One other thing just for reference: you can make a link to any internal Wikipedia page by simply enclosing it in doubled brackets. So, instead of typing out the URL of the page where the bot signed for you, you could have just typed [[Talk:Caernarfon Castle]], which would have become Talk:Caernarfon Castle when you saved. Hope that helps.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:43, 29 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have been using ~~~~, so I checked the preferences and unticked the checkbox in the sig field. I always sign other talk pages, didn't think it was necessary here though (C&P is quicker ;-) ). And i use formatting on article pages too, but again didn't bother here. Thanks for all your help Mei (talk) 14:53, 29 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
