September 2022 edit

Hello, I'm Robby.is.on. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Reza Ghoochannejhad, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Robby.is.on (talk) 09:08, 20 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Transfermarkt edit

Hi there. Transfermarkt is not considered a reliable source here; see WP:WPFLINKSNO. Robby.is.on (talk) 09:12, 1 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello there. I don't know where else I can find a reliable source for you to accept the fact that Ghoochannejhad has scored 17 International goals. So due to lack of source I have to bring up his Persian Wikipedia page which I know you guys will not consider it as a reliable source. Reza Ghoochannejhad himself announced on his Instagram account back in the 2016 that he made his first Hatt-trick against Papua New Guinea in a friendly match which held behind closed doors. therefore, his goals in that game would be 3, not 2 goals. Sincerely. Mehrabpr (talk) 22:39, 15 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the explanation, Mehrabpr. I'm afraid we can only write things in Wikipedia that we can back up with a reliable source. That's just how Wikipedia works. See WP:Verifiability. You are right, we cannot use Wikipedia as a source; WP:CIRCULAR has the details about that.
Did Iranian press not cover the match against Papua New Guinea? Perhaps there is or was a match report at http://ffiri.ir we could use? Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 21:34, 16 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
I see. No unfortunately there isn't such thing on http://ffiri.ir/. I'm telling you this game wasn't covered properly because it was taking place behind a door-closed match and there aren't many sources who names all the goal scorers. as I told You, Ghoochannejhad did announce that he had scored a Hatt-rick in that game on his Instagram. I found a news agency that published Reza's announcement back in the 2016. You can see it at https://www.yjc.news/00OZRc Mehrabpr (talk) 00:12, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
I ran https://www.yjc.news/00OZRc through Google Translate and found this bit:

"According to the reporter of the sports world of the youth journalists' club, Reza Guchannejad, the striker of Hirnfin club, scored three goals in the 8-1 victory of our national football team against New Guinea in a friendly match and experienced his first hat trick in the national team."

That reads like a news reporter supports the claim of a hat-trick? Robby.is.on (talk) 11:25, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi there again. In fact, the reporter of yjc (Young Journalists Club) which is an Iranian news agency published Ghoochannejhad's Hat-trick news based on Reza's Instagram post which is visible in the article; didn't you notice it? Mehrabpr (talk) 11:44, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
I did. My point is: a player's own statement is not sufficient to support an achievement. We need: "as Ghoochannejhad mentioned on his Instagram page he scored a hat-trick", not "Ghoochannejhad mentioned on his Instagram page that he scored a hat-trick." Robby.is.on (talk) 11:49, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
I see your point. This is the literal translation of the news if it helps: "According to the sports reporter of YJC Reza Ghoochannejhad the striker of Heerenveen SC scored three goals in the 8-1 victory over New Guinea in a friendly match and experienced his first Hat-trick in the national team.
after this pleasant event he expressed his happiness about the goal-filled victory and the fact that he has made his first Hat-trick for the national team on his Instagram." Mehrabpr (talk) 12:17, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. That indeed reads like the reporter supports the claim. In that case, perhaps we can use https://www.yjc.news/00OZRc. It's curious no other media reported about the friendly match. Robby.is.on (talk) 12:30, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Then I will just make the changes using https://www.yjc.news/00OZRc as source. By the way thanks for the explanations and all the stuff. Have a great one. Mehrabpr (talk) 12:39, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Great! You too. :-) Happy editing, Robby.is.on (talk) 12:45, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
