Hello Megs - I welcome your template but I have one concern - about the name. How does a "choreographic work" differ from, say, the general term "concert dance"? Will the title be of the greatest use considering that the choreography of a given work is so often covered by articles that also cover the composer, producer and everyone else? Is it worth introducing a new term that may collide with other templates or be thought inappropriate in many cases? That's my thought - in fact I am not even sure I have rightly understood your intention, so excuse me if I haven't!
Generally, I'd be glad to co-operate and help post the template to many pages. There are so few people working on dance. If I may, I'd like to mention one of my own current concerns. It's about the history of dance, the meaning of "pantomime". This was a dance-drama of ancient Greece and Rome that gets a lot of coverage in dance history books. I've found, though, that this meaning is disputed at Pantomime. Could you, if you feel competent and interested, take a look at the talk page there and help decide how to include the dance-orientted ancient pantomime? Thanks. I've been struggling with the name/label as well. I chose choreographic work because it seems the most inclusive to different genres, within and outside of the proscenium. 'Choreographic work' includes both ballet and concert dance, as well as site specific dance, dance film, etc. Library of Congress authority records also designate movement based arts as choreographic works. For instance, here is the authority record for Rite of Spring: https://lccn.loc.gov/n94024219.
- Michael, this is a great question. I like the ballet infobox, and I used it (and other resources) when developing one for choreographic works. An examples of a work that would benefit from this infobox is Alvin Ailey's Revelations
- Redheylin, There are so few editors working in dance, and it's so difficult to represent dance with so few secondary resources! I'm very happy to take a look at the pantomime article in the next couple of days. If the template for the infobox is approved, I'm interested in how it might improve stubs for new and existing articles.
