Proposed deletion of File:AMAG logo new.jpg

The file File:AMAG logo new.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused, superseded by File:AMAG Austria Metall logo.svg.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 10:50, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

New pages patrol newsletter

Hello Mdann52,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

November Articles for creation backlog drive

Hello Mdann52:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 2600 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:24, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello Mdann52,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Gloucester Cheese Rolling

Hello,

I saw you edited the past winner section of this wikipedia article. However, I think it's cooler the wikipedia page shows the flags of the winners, that way it's nice to see people from other countries who've won it.

Thanks in advance for eventually re changing this 178.51.60.97 (talk) 07:41, 7 June 2024 (UTC)

Hey - thanks for reaching out! Just to clarify, however, Wikipedia prefers not using flags under such circumstances as the competetors are not representing a country - MOS:FLAG is the guidelines on this, hence their removal. thanks for your interest however! Mdann52 (talk) 08:06, 7 June 2024 (UTC)

Clarification regarding closed poll

Thank you for closing the discussion regarding the political position of the GOP. However, I would like you to clarify your comment regarding the "ranges of believes": do you mean that the position should simply be "right-wing" without mentioning that parts of the party are centre-right and far-right, or did you mean something else with that?

Cortador (talk) 20:50, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

@Cortador that's exactly what I meant - I can clarify that bit in my statement if it didn't quite come across as that! Mdann52 (talk) 20:52, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
That would be helpful. Thank you again. Cortador (talk) 20:57, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

Thinking about clarification in that close, you note "as stated in and supported by reliable sources...as long as backed up by the relevant sources". Does that mean you find consensus in the discussion that the sources do back it up, or are you merely reminding everyone of the general applicability of WP:RS/WP:BURDEN? DMacks (talk) 18:05, 10 June 2024 (UTC)

@DMacks: - I don't recall any mention of sources in that discussion, so I haven't considered them, and hence that caveat. If there had been discussion of sourcing, I would have worded it more like "as backed up by the sources cited below" or similar, but there was no discussion of sources so I deemed that appropriate for another discussion (and that represented the consensus from those who !voted). Regardless, I don't think it would be correct in that sort of discussion for a closer to unilaterally decide what sources were reliable or not. So yes, it was just a reminder of "this RfC doesn't trump WP:V". Mdann52 (talk) 18:12, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
Thanks. DMacks (talk) 18:15, 10 June 2024 (UTC)

Hiya! First of all thanks for your comments on the Grand Cadaver draft. It surely improved it a lot! I have updated it with more sources, but before I resubmit it could you take a look at it? I don't know how strictly the "If you have not resolved the issues listed above, your draft will be declined again and potentially deleted." rule is applied, hence I want to be cautious! The Space Stout (talk) 15:23, 17 June 2024 (UTC)

@The Space Stout: don't worry about that warning too much - that's more for the blatent cases where articles don't meet the standards we have or where they are obviously promoting something! I'll have a better look later this evening, but I'd recommend trying to remove and replace the sources to www.metal-archives.com - it looks user-generated, so isn't really considered reliable. Just thinking aloud here - do you know if there's any additional coverage/reviews/attention in Sweedish sources at all? You can include non-English sources to meet our guidelines! Especially if they show they meet any of the criteria at WP:BAND. Mdann52 (talk) 15:34, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
@Mdann52: I see. In general the www.metal-arcives.com is usually the go-to place for the metal community, but yes, you are right that it is user-generated, and I'm unaware whether there is some kind of review process before publishing. In any case, as I was using it solely as a reference to the other bands of the members I'll try to find other sources. Thanks for your help! The Space Stout (talk) 21:51, 17 June 2024 (UTC)

Review the sources for this article

Hello, can you review the sources of this article and confirm whether it is accepted or rejected Draft:Mohamed Aarab to User:Mdann52 DRsabire (talk) 13:02, 19 June 2024 (UTC)

@DRsabire: I've had a look through the sources via Google translate, unfortunately I don't think he quite meets the bar currently. Most of those sources aren't what we call "in depth" coverage, and for Wikipedia:BAND, which are the rules an artist needs to meet to have an article. Sorry! Mdann52 (talk) 13:10, 19 June 2024 (UTC)

Mr. Submarine revert

Hi Matt!

New to editing. Was wondering why you reverted the changes on my page creation?

Thanks. LucasMaple (talk) 17:05, 19 June 2024 (UTC)

@LucasMaple apologies, I was going to leave you a message, but seem to have forgot!
in short, it appears from the sources provided the company may not be notable enough for an organisation, as the sources provided didn't show the organisation had received significant coverage. Now, more success may exist and just weren't cited, so it may well be an article on the subject is possible.
Wikipedia:Your First Article is a good page to take a read of, and especially for a page like this, I would recommend you create it as a draft to allow you space to work on it, collect sources and get feedback before creating it, to prevent this sort of thing. Hope this helps! Mdann52 (talk) 18:41, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

@Trappist the monk: I can't see any broken references in that article caused by my bot? It look like the way that {{Infobox radio station}} is used, by the looks it takes the "name" paramater to use as the name for the FCC info which may or may not be desirable. I've fixed it here, but I don't see how I can detect this or fix it with the bot. Mdann52 (talk) 17:47, 15 July 2024 (UTC)

Is HBC AIV helperbot14 supposed to be down?

The bot hasn't been removing reports for the last ~3 hours, is it intentional? – 2804:F1...0D:DFE4 (talk) 19:03, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

@2804:F14:8099:7C01:583A:B9E1:DF0D:DFE4 given it a poke, should be working now. I've moved it to toollabs, and it timed out due to a lag issue. Mdann52 (talk) 19:16, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
Ah, I should have tried asking first 😅, thank you for being so prompt. – 2804:F1...0D:DFE4 (talk) 19:26, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
Actually, why didn't it remove the 68.95.121.73 report at AIV?
That IP was already blocked when it removed the 2 accounts. – 2804:F1...0D:DFE4 (talk) 19:31, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
@2804:F14:8099:7C01:583A:B9E1:DF0D:DFE4 looks like the bot has backed off due to replication lag (aka the servers being busy - or at least, it's got a "try again later" response back the last ~30 attempts to edit). I'll dig into it tomorrow though. Mdann52 (talk) 19:44, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

ACB?

I think this edit summary is a bug – neither the talk page nor the block log suggests that account creation was blocked. jlwoodwa (talk) 00:05, 22 July 2024 (UTC)

@Jlwoodwa: - sorted. Looks like in the block info API response, "no create" actually means account creation is enabled... weird Mdann52 (talk) 05:27, 22 July 2024 (UTC)

HBC AIV helperbot14 deleting admin comments

Hi, thanks for stepping up with the bot! I've noticed that as well as removing blocked accounts from the UAA list the bot is also deleting comments left by admins on unblocked accounts, such as here. Are you able to change this? Thanks, Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 17:08, 19 July 2024 (UTC)

@Pickersgill-Cunliffe Interesting, I think that's an issue with some cached content, where the edit you made was just after the bot updated the page.I'll add a patch in later on. Mdann52 (talk) 17:10, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
I'll post here as well this time, instead of the BRFA, but the bot also removed a few line breaks for some reason at WP:AIV/TB2 -> Special:Diff/1235508948.
At least the one after the section title was incorrect, when looking at the way the page looked after it. – 2804:F1...2D:A904 (talk) 17:17, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
Interesting... I can't recreate that one!. I've tweaked some blankspace stripping which should help though. Mdann52 (talk) 19:11, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
Just a small follow-up quibble that the bot appears to be deleting reports but leaving the bullet points behind, resulting in pages like this. Is the bot able to remove the asterisks as well? Thanks, Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 09:49, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
@Pickersgill-Cunliffe: Interesting one - Twinkle adds an extra line when reporting sometimes, but not always. I made an assumption the only bullet we care about is the ones containing the reports. These are cleaned up if there are comments after.
I'll clean up any extra blank lines after the report now, as it seems the easier solution than trying to figure out what makes TW change behaviour - I don't know if this was added to be compatible with the previous version of the bot however. Mdann52 (talk) 10:06, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
Now it's removing all the bullet points, even ones that should still remain! What a monkey's pawjlwoodwa (talk) 21:01, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
I had forgotten where this was so didn't mention it earlier, but the extra line is intentional: MediaWiki:Gadget-twinklearv.js#L-646
It links to this discussion on how to make the page better for people with dyslexia. – 2804:F1...0D:DFE4 (talk) 02:41, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
I never knew that an "empty list entry" was completely ignored. Is this an intentional MediaWiki feature? I can't find it documented anywhere on meta: or mw:, but I haven't done an exhaustive search. jlwoodwa (talk) 04:03, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
@Jlwoodwa: It's going to be in the HTML engine. An empty list element is renderer with "class=mw-empty-elt" applied to it in HTML, which is then supressed in CSS. Mdann52 (talk) 07:27, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
extra line issue sorted. Mdann52 (talk) 10:44, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
I think the fix to this bug may have overcorrected a bit – comments on blocked users are now being left behind, effectively adding them to the preceding report. jlwoodwa (talk) 06:11, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
Another one Special:Diff/1236103305, at AIV this time. – 2804:F1...81:19C4 (talk) 23:12, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
Fixed. Mdann52 (talk) 04:39, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
Happened again – maybe because the comment used ** instead of *:? jlwoodwa (talk) 01:32, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
That's exactly why - PWB has no neat way to filter on lists so having to do it manually, and couldn't find any examples of ** being used. Fixed. Mdann52 (talk) 05:09, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

@BusterD I see the point you're trying to make, and I didn't mean to patronise you if it came across like that! Sometimes, things need to be said.
I see your point about BLP, had it been 2021/early 2022 I would have completely agreed with you. Mdann52 (talk) 06:07, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
We're cool. I don't remember a time when you and I were not cool. And we've both been at it a while. I like the clash, frankly. On this issue I see some huge problems with the casual way wikipedians agree to sourcing living people through purely career-detailing sources. Might as well be IMDB. My issues derive from having a growing number of friends who may reasonably meet NOTE and have become Wikipedia BLP subjects (and sometimes in 2024, no longer living). The articles are largely terrible, always vastly out of date and reflect badly on the covered. I mostly choose not to edit these subjects myself. I wish there was an option of allowing the BLP subject a way of effectively interacting with the talk page, once notability was formally established (to keep out the "advertisers"). I can't envision a path forward with this. I cannot be the only wikipedian in this situation, watching his friends' public reputation suffer because somebody thought a crappy article about a respected artist would be fine (when NO article would be preferable to offal). HBC AIV helperbot14 down?

Hi!

I've noticed that the AIV board currently has a lot of accounts/IPs listed on it that have already been blocked. Is the bot down? — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 14:34, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

@Red-tailed hawk: - bot was happily chugging along - but wasn't doing anything on that page as this entry upset it due to the extra space. Fixed and patched. Mdann52 (talk) 14:39, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

It removed Anon10210 from AIV/TB2 without problems. – 2804:F1...E9:11BA (talk) 05:58, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
Sorted. It was the rangeblock in the template, which for some reason the API thinks is a registered user. Range support to be added.... Mdann52 (talk) 06:38, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
Oddly it works when the range in the template is already blocked (bad example: diff, from a user talk post).
I'll just say that this situation mentioned in the user talk already happened with the previous bot, and while it could be improved - I'm not asking for that (just using it as an example of the bot working with a range IP in the template). – 2804:F1...E9:11BA (talk) 06:55, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
Indeed, but PWB doesn't recognise a range as a anonymous user, so won't bother trying to handle it nicely. Now, I'll add some handling to it, but I think I'm going to struggle to handle it without an elaborate use case for something that seems to be rare. Mdann52 (talk) 07:43, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
