NPG-6

edit

Hi, I have removed some links to NPG-6, which you added, from some pages. I am not sure if this link complies with wp:el (probably not). I suggest addition of the link to the page wikipedia:chemical sources. If you think that the link is of value, could you please discuss the addition first on the talk-page of the appropriate page? Thanks. --Dirk Beetstra T C 10:05, 12 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Dirk,
The Nylon-6 Promotional group (NPG-6) is a group to "Enhance the opportunities in Nylon-6 related industries by means of more collaboration and communication.” The website: www.NPG-6.com has a lot of information about the members, but also about Nylon-6 applications/properties/production processes. It would be helpfull if the NPG-6 link would be present on the Nylon-6 and Caprolactam page. With kind regards, Mcsys 09:26, 13 October 2006 (UTC) (copied from talk page Dirk Beetstra)Reply
The link you provided is a link to the homepage of the site, and the page seems to have a commercial background. In general such links are removed. we could consider adding a link to about nylon 6 to the nylon 6-page, that page tells directly something about nylon-6 (I think that that is what commercial links are for). Seeing that the site is only about nylon, I don't think indeed that wikipedia:Chemical sources would be the right place (though it would not be out of place there as well). I know there is a thin line between a truly commercial site, and a non-commercial site, but since I am at the moment hard at work (well, just back from holiday :-) ) to remove as many 'biased' links from chemical pages (see a discussion on my talkpage on my reasoning on these), I think this one falls in that category as well.
(you can answer here, keeps the discussion together). Thanks --Dirk Beetstra T C 18:19, 18 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

The Nylon-6 Promotional Group (NPG-6) is an international group of companies that are active in the Nylon-6 industry, ranging from raw materials to fibres, textiles, engineering plastics, film and dedicated equipment. Nylon-6 is a dynamic, exciting and incredibly versatile material. This high performance polymer is unrivalled in its number of applications, including textiles, carpets, industrial fibres, engineering plastics and film. NPG-6 provides information about the value and performance of Nylon-6 in its many uses.

The activities of NPG-6:

  • Promotion of Nylon-6
  • Provide a global networking platform
  • Conduct market surveys & application studies
  • Stimulate business chain cooperation and developments
  • Increase knowledge

That sums it up, I really think that the NPG-6 site has added value for the visitors of the wikipedia-Nylon-6 page. Could you please put the link back?

I have read your request, I will wait for some more responses (in hope that other chemists will . My opinion: an external link to the page about nylon 6 on nylon-6 and caprolactam could be useful. Not to the homepage of NPG-6. I will copy this request to the two talk-pages. --Dirk Beetstra T C 13:38, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in nylon 6. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. --Dirk Beetstra T C 16:35, 10 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

In addition to this warning, please discuss, there are now only a weak 'neutral to the specific link' and an 'against'. So apparently there is no consensus about the addition. Please do not add the link again, unless there is a clear consensus in favour of the addition of it, thank you. --Dirk Beetstra T C 16:45, 10 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
