Message for me? edit

Hi Mcorcora. I got an alert saying you sent me an email, but I can't find the email. Can you go to my Talk page and leave the message (the one in the email) there? Thanks :) PiCo (talk) 21:18, 16 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Ah, I think I've found it. You're asking why I reverted your edit of the word "critical" in front of "critical scholars"? When biblical scholars talk about "critical" they mean a branch of scholarship the full title of which is "historical criticism". The aim of this is "to investigate the origins of ancient texts in order to understand "the world behind the text". So it's distinct from that other kind of criticism which attempts to understand what the text says about God (i.e., theology). I don't like using the word "critical" by itself (though biblical scholars do, often), because to readers who don't know about these things it seems to mean that these scholars are disparaging the Bible, which isn't true - most of them are priests and pastors and many hold teaching positions in seminars.
