The link you added to Cosmo Gordon Lang doesn't seem to work properly, and in any case a fuller link to all archival material relating to him (including that held at Lambeth Palace) is given by the NRA link. David Underdown (talk) 10:13, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

The link should work, I may have left in some whitespace while pasting which I can sort out, but if it is not wanted I will leave it out

The link should lead to the catalog at Lambeth Palace Library , where the material is actually deposited. The extent of the material is described below.

The 321 volumes in this collection cover the whole of his life, although the bulk of the material comprises his official correspondence at Canterbury (Vols. 1-186). There is a subject series of 94 volumes (Vols. 1-94) covering the years 1920-42 (some York papers are included) and a chronological series of 92 volumes (Vols. 95-186) for the period 1928-42. The remaining 136 volumes include family correspondence, sermons, appointment diaries, notebooks, journals, photograph albums, and press cuttings, many of which were deposited in the Library after his death by his literary executor Alan Don, Dean of Westminster.

Oddly enough following the http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/nra/searches/subjectView.asp?ID=P162311 link returns an error message.

It would appear that when I created the NRA link, I somehow copied the wrong reference, it should be http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/nra/searches/subjectView.asp?ID=P16722 (fixed in Lang article). As you can see it lists the Lambeth material along with other collections of letters etc held at other institutions.
There seems to be somethign up with the Lambeth website, I can't even get into the catalogues for the book or manuscript collections. David Underdown (talk) 11:08, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

It may be due to the sites only having IP addresses, rather than full domain names, I am told that this can cause problems where security policy is strict.

Mcc2inf (talk) 11:11, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Having tried from a machine on different network, it would seem that security was indeed the issue. It still seems preferable to link to a listing which provides all archival holdings, rather than just one (though I am perhaps slightly biased). However, I appreciate that the NRA listing doesn't currently include the direct link to the LPL catalogue, though I note that there are links to the Bodleian catalogue and so on, so it should be possible to get the listing updated (in fact I just happen to know that a former Lambeth Palace archivist works in the relevant department at The National Archives).
