Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of published material to articles like The Slave Ship . Please cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you....Modernist (talk) 21:34, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
I did not do any of these things: I simply corrected a wrong analysis of Turner's painting. The source I referenced, George P. Landow, is a professor (I think emeritus) of English and Art History at Brown University: Isn't that reliable?
I don't understand your comment. The view of the painting I present is, I think, the consensus of art critics and historians, not any sort of "original research" (I am a professor but not of Art) or "synthesis". I am really puzzled by how Wikipedia is working here. Just take a look at the painting and read about its history and Turner's hatred of slavery. How can one interpret this painting as just about the ascendency of nature -- without a single mention of slavery? Who wrote this nonsense? It is a narrow and overly academic bit of fiddle faddle. Who's the actual Wiki-referee here?
