Final warning - copyright violations

Hi MaynardClark. After coming upon the blatant copyright violation and plagiarism in Microsoft Stream, I've taken a look at some of your other edits for copyright issues, and unfortunately I've found many, after looking at 20 of your approximately 70 article creations and having not looked at any of your edits to articles.

• Microsoft Stream was a copyright violation from here
• I've deleted Lisa Boothe as taken from this webpage
• Though your infringement was foundational in Adele Morris, I managed to save it with a mix of removals and revision deletions. Note that this also appears to have copied some content from another Wikipedia article, Warwick McKibbin, without mandatory copyright attribution to the page authors; see WP:COPYWITHIN. I fixed that with this attribution edit summary.
• Similar with Saba Hamedy, with content taken from http://www.huffingtonpost.com/author/saba-hamedy.
• Likewise with B. Timothy Walsh, with content copied and pasted from here.
• A little different from these others but I have also removed the very long block quotes from Deal space. Fair use can only support short quotes. See also Wikipedia:Non-free content#Text.
• I see that a prior version of David Freeman (journalist) was deleted by RickinBaltimore as a copyright violation of his LinkedIn page.
• I also see that Diannaa has warned you twice, for copyright violations added to Tamara Awerbuch-Friedlander, Shekhar Saxena and Joseph Brain (academic).

I do not know if I caught all of these types of edits in even the small part I checked, of your extensive editing history of close to 20,000 edits. The way many of these were added is utterly exhausting to ferret out. You start articles with a sentence that seems fine, and then make thirty edits one of which adds three word-for-word copy pasted sentences. This is is one reason it's such a problem when an editor like you whose been here for a long time is found to be doing this. It would go a long way if, after reading this and understanding the issue, you were to find any other edits where you copied and listing them so that the illegal content can be revision deleted.

Understand: You cannot copy and paste previously written material (other than, short quotations, clearly marked as such by the use of quote marks (or a block quoting method) and cited to the source of the copying using an inline citation, which is allowed under fair use). Reliable sources are cited to show where the information exists that verifies your additions, but you don't copy what they say. As we often tell people: "You may use external websites or other writings as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words." You should also understand that copyright infringement is not avoided by surface modification of existing content, e.g., changing a word here and a word there, while substantially retaining the wording, structure and creative expression in the original material. See Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing.

We often grant more leeway for other types of good faith but improper edits, before resorting to blocks, but copyright violations are a problem of a more serious nature. Accordingly, I am posting here under the section header "Final warning", so you clearly understand and are not taken by surprise. Harvard speeches links

One editor has edited solely to place external links in the body of articles; they're all links to the same source and often placed in inappropriate sections and given inappropriate weight. This is despite being asked by multiple editors to stop or change. If this is important enough to include in articles - and I am very dubious - then it needs to be included in a different way. I suggest that any editor who believes the material should be included in an article take it up in that article's Talk page to determine if there is a consensus one way or another; we're at the "D" part of WP:BRD.

(And Katz isn't the only person who has said that; many other people have said the same thing or something very similar. He just said it with the kind of phrasing that made it into a usable domain name. :) ) ElKevbo (talk) 23:57, 23 June 2017 (UTC)

Hi MaynardClark. A bunch of the content on your userpage and on the many many subpages you have created under your userpage and under your Talk page violates the WP:Userpage policy in that they contain autobiographical content or essays about the world and stuff, which violates WP:NOTWEBHOST. To editor MaynardClark: I'll agree with Jytdog that you've laid it on thick. I support long-term Wikipedians here to contribute having some leeway. I removed the CSD tag because the criteria allows for some leeway. Regardless, it would help if you don't take steps to alienate the community. We have, in the past, deleted user pages that resemble fake articles full of puffery. Guild of Copy Editors December 2017 News Hello copy editors! Welcome to the December 2017 GOCE newsletter, which contains nine months(!) of updates. The Guild has been busy and successful; your diligent efforts in 2017 has brought the backlog of articles requiring copy edit to below 1,000 articles for the first time. Thanks to all editors who have contributed their time and energy to help make this happen. >>> Sign up for the January Drive! <<< >>> Participate in the Coordinator Elections! <<< Our copy-editing drives (month-long backlog-reduction drives held in odd-numbered months) and blitzes (week-long themed editing in even-numbered months) have been very successful this year. March drive: We set out to remove April, May, and June 2016 from our backlog and all February 2017 Requests (a total of 304 articles). By the end of the month, all but 22 of these articles were cleared. Officially, of the 28 who signed up, 22 editors recorded 257 copy edits (439,952 words). (These numbers do not always make sense when you compare them to the overall reduction in the backlog, because not all editors record every copy edit on the drive page.) April blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 16 through 22 April; the theme was Requests. Of the 15 who signed up, 9 editors completed 43 articles (81,822 words). May drive: The goals were to remove July, August, and September 2016 from the backlog and to complete all March 2017 Requests (a total of 300 articles). By the end of the month, we had reduced our overall backlog to an all-time low of 1,388 articles. Of the 28 who signed up, 17 editors completed 187 articles (321,810 words). June blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 18 through 24 June; the theme was Requests. Of the 16 who signed up, 9 editors completed 28 copy edits (117,089 words). 2017 Coordinator elections: In June, coordinators for the second half of 2017 were elected. Jonesey95 moved back into the lead coordinator position, with Miniapolis stepping down to remain as coordinator; Tdslk and Corinne returned as coordinators, and Keira1996 rejoined after an extended absence. Thanks to all who participated! July drive: We set out to remove August, September, October, and November 2016 from the backlog and to complete all May and June 2017 Requests (a total of 242 articles). The drive was an enormous success, and the target was nearly achieved within three weeks, so that December 2016 was added to the "old articles" list used as a goal for the drive. By the end of the month, only three articles from 2016 remained, and for the second drive in a row, the backlog was reduced to a new all-time low, this time to 1,363 articles. Of the 33 who signed up, 21 editors completed 337 articles (556,482 words). August blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 20 through 26 August; the theme was biographical articles tagged for copy editing for more than six months (47 articles). Of the 13 who signed up, 11 editors completed 38 copy edits (42,589 words). September drive: The goals were to remove January, February, and March 2017 from the backlog and to complete all August 2017 Requests (a total of 338 articles). Of the 19 who signed up, 14 editors completed 121 copy edits (267,227 words). October blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 22 through 28 October; the theme was Requests. Of the 14 who signed up, 8 editors completed 20 articles (55,642 words). November drive: We set out again to remove January, February, and March 2017 from the backlog and to complete all October 2017 Requests (a total of 207 articles). By the end of the month, these goals were reached and the backlog shrank to its lowest total ever, 997 articles, the first time it had fallen under one thousand (click on the graph above to see this amazing feat in graphical form). It was also the first time that the oldest copy-edit tag was less than eight months old. "Olympic Scandal"

I note that you added a template to Michigan State University and Michigan State Spartans regarding "updates" to the portions of the articles relating to an Olympic Scandal, which I gather relates to allegations of the school's coverup of sex abuse by the gymnastics coach; I've removed the templates, because they were added without explanation, because neither of the articles currently say anything about the events to be updated, and the template linked to nothing to give the template any context. I don't have any particular view about whether this incident merits mention in the articles, but if it does, I think the better solution would be to add the material rather than placing a somewhat confusing and inflammatory template at the top of the page. I don't see it as inflammatory because it is widely discussed in every major US news network - on both radio and TV. But as you wish. I think it will appear on the article eventually, and probably soon. But I think it's merely looking at the news and wondering why nothing has been developed about the current controversy, during which student group's have sought the removal of the MSU President. Schools respond with reputation management and do things that solve the issues that emerge from 'student furor' in any contemporary 'fracas'!

I do agree that it's hardly proper to offset an entire state university's historical contribution to the US and the Midwest with one current scandal, however horrid it is. But I have seen far smaller 'controversies' blown out of proportion in Wikipedia (editors don't like doctors who appear on PBS fundraisers or journalists who work primarily for FOX, etc.)

Well, as I said I don't have much of a view one way or the other about whether this merits inclusion in the articles (less sure about the leads). But I do feel pretty strongly that Wikipedia articles should answer questions, not raise them; and that putting a template at the very top of an article to "update" material in the article that isn't in fact in it at all, produces a "WTF?" in the reader rather than the more desirable, "Aha!" Guild of Copy Editors February 2018 News Welcome to the February 2018 GOCE newsletter in which you will find Guild updates since the December edition. We got to a great start for the year, holding the backlog at nine months. 100 requests were submitted in the first 6 weeks of the year and were swiftly handled with an average completion time of 9 days. >>> Sign up for the March Drive! <<< Coordinator elections: In December, coordinators for the first half of 2018 were elected. Jonesey95 remained as lead coordinator and Corrine, Miniapolis and Tdslk as assistant coordinators. Keira1996 stepped down as assistant coordinator and was replaced by Reidgreg. Thanks to all who participated! End of year reports were prepared for 2016 and 2017, providing a detailed look at the Guild's long-term progress. January drive: We set out to remove April, May, and June 2017 from our backlog and all December 2017 Requests (a total of 275 articles). As with previous years, the January drive was an outstanding success and by the end of the month all but 57 of these articles were cleared. Officially, of the 38 who signed up, 21 editors recorded 259 copy edits (490,256 words). February blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 11 through 17 February, focusing on Requests and the last articles tagged in May 2017. At the end of the week there were only 14 pending requests, with none older than 20 days. Of the 11 who signed up, 10 editors completed 35 copy edits (98,538 words). HRamage created the page; I added materials to his draft. We agreed in advance that he would work on the page and be its primary editor, but he hasn't done much (anything) on it. I MET the producer of the film, enjoyed the film, and thought that he deserved a page. Whether or not such a page survives a later submission will depend on what Wikim,edians think of it, after development and submission. I have no financial investment in Second Nature Films, nor have I met any of its other principals, other than by e-mail. I care about animal conservation; animal conservation (even human) and global health typically involve all kinds of conflicts of interest related to resource acquisition and use. No. I met him at a screening near MIT. What is dishonest about that? Would you like this to me in the draft space I had created under my own account? I am happy to do that, but this other man I had never met told contacted me. You make some really unreasonable and libelous charges withouth any transparency for whoever you are. "HRamage created the page" is true, but he had merely created the FORM for the page, which I take in good faith to be 'creating the page'.

Your question is (or seems to be) whether this is an 'alternate account' - it is not - it belongs to a young man - Holden Synar Ramage - in his 20s, as far as I can tell. He has a Facebook page. Does that answer your explicit inquiry? MaynardClark (talk) 19:51, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

Thank you. My 'contribution' to that article was (I think now, and thought then) pretty much completed. I had thought that I would merely give him an idea how to begin an article; then I got carried away busying myself with what I would normally do in gathering information. But that's how I tend to work - in a flurry of intensive activity. I do hope that he works on the draft soon and does what is expected to develop a basic userpage for himself. But he's in a better position to make that happen than I am, and he presumably has time and inclination to do so. June 2018 GOCE newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors June 2018 News Welcome to the June 2018 GOCE newsletter, in which you will find Guild updates since the February edition. Progress continues to be made on the copyediting backlog, which has been reduced to 7 months and reached a new all-time low. Requests continue to be handled efficiently this year, with 272 completed by the end of May (an average completion time of 10.5 days). Fewer than 10% of these waited longer than 20 days, and the longest wait time was 29 days. Wikipedia in general, and the Guild in particular, experienced a deep loss with the death on 20 March of Corinne. Corinne (a GOCE coordinator since 1 July 2016) was a tireless aide on the requests page, and her peerless copyediting is a part of innumerable GAs and FAs. Her good cheer, courtesy and tact are very much missed. March drive: The goal was to remove June, July and August 2017 from our backlog and all February 2018 Requests (a total of 219 articles). This drive was an outstanding success, and by the end of the month all but eight of these articles were cleared. Of the 33 editors who signed up, 19 recorded 277 copy edits (425,758 words). April blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 15 through 21 April, focusing on Requests and the last eight articles tagged in August 2017. At the end of the week there were only 17 pending requests, with none older than 17 days. Of the nine editors who signed up, eight editors completed 22 copy edits (62,412 words). May drive: We set out to remove September, October and November 2017 from our backlog and all April 2018 Requests (a total of 298 articles). ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, MaynardClark. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

December 2018 GOCE newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors December 2018 Newsletter Hello and welcome to the December 2018 GOCE newsletter. Here is what's been happening since the August edition. Thanks to everyone who participated in the August blitz (results), which focused on Requests and the oldest backlog month. Of the twenty editors who signed up, eleven editors recorded 37 copy edits. For the September drive (results), of the twenty-three people who signed up, nineteen editors completed 294 copy edits. Our October blitz (results) focused on Requests, geography, and food and drink articles. Of the fourteen people who signed up, eleven recorded a total of 57 copy edits. For the November drive (results), twenty-two people signed up, and eighteen editors recorded 273 copy edits. This helped to bring the backlog to a six-month low of 825 articles. The goal here in what the hospital and clinical ethicists are trying to do IS indeed to 'define, rationalize, and establish' in concert witrh, or in consultation with medical practitioners who migth be stuck because of the inherent subjectivity of 'trying to do right by their patients' when a congeries of other issues are also realities (this is true), and if one wants to build some guidelines FROM the context of clinical practice, ... the topic needs to be watched in order to discuss it. Then the TEAM of persons (not merely deletionists in position to act out their wills) need to discern HOW to fundamentally rewrite the article in order to make it more 'encyclopedic'! I'm not a deletionist, except with what seem to be promotional articles. I almost never insist on a speedy if there's a reasonable challenge, so I've removed the tag; what I have done instead is remove the material I consider the most promotional. Alternatively, I might have chosen to move it to draft space ,and then there will be time to improve it and someone else will judge. When I list for deletion, I usually mean that the combination of the somewhat borderline notability of the subject and the promotional nature of the writing is what makes the case for deletion. If the subject is really very notable, I usually advise to rewrite or rewrite myself. If I tag your article and you want me to look again, pls also notify me on my talk page. I do not always stay around--sometimes I do a round of NPP just before going to bed, but I'll respond if I'm around.

More generally, we seem to have different ideas about what's appropriate in a WP article. As I see it, your writing is usually more informal and essay -like than the formal plain writing in an encyclopedia. You tend to include what I consider human interest material, and make too many claims of importance. Rather, the facts should speak for themselves. You tend to add material from PR sources, and to use quotes expressing the opinions of the subject. The nearest term I can find for this is promotional writing. Roughly, promotional writing is what the subject would like readers to know about himself, in contrast to encyclopedic writing, which is what a general reader might want to know. If that's not your intent, you might want to write to avoid giving the impression.

Nobody is expected to make a perfect article,, but it is fundamentally your duty to write so the other editors don't have to do it. There is no "team" here; there are editors working independently but cooperatively. I think that what I advise is what the consensus calls for. I try to give safe advice, not advice for how much one might hope to get away with. Nobody here is in a position to act out their wills--I never delete an article by myself--either I nominate and someone else agrees, or I act upon someone's prior recommendation. Sometimes, the consensus does not agree with me--but sometimes I deliberately nominate for AfD to see just what the consensus is, and I may just be interested in finding out, and sometimes I nominate to try to influence the consensus--People either agree with me , or they do not agree;. When I first came here, I thought what I'd be doing is writing comprehensive articles in my specialties, but I found out that instead I found it more satisfying to work on a wide variety of topics, improving the work that had been started by others. Perhaps it's lack of attention span. It's compensated for by persistence--I can keep working on many things at a time, working on each one over long intervals. Request for feedback on cell ag company draft

Hello @MaynardClark: I found you on the talk page for Cultured Meat. I'm working on a draft article about a company considered tangential to the cultured meat "space." I noticed that you're an experienced Wikipedian, and wondered if you'd be willing and able to provide feedback on my draft, here: Draft:Perfect Day (company).

I have disclosed a COI regarding the draft in keeping with Wikipedia's policy. While I've tried to use language that is as neutral as possible, the first submission was rejected for a WP:NOTADVERT issue. I've discussed it with the reviewer at their talk page and gotten feedback from one other person. The draft has since been edited slightly, but I'd still like to get others' perspectives on it before resubmitting. It's possible I'm too close to the subject, and feel I would do better to rely on unbiased opinions rather than guessing at what should be changed. Are you able to help? Guild of Copy Editors December 2019 Newsletter Hello and welcome to the December 2019 GOCE newsletter, an update of Guild happenings since the September edition. Our Annual Report should be ready in late January. Election time: Nominations for the election of a new tranche of Guild coordinators to serve for the first half of 2020 will be open from 1 to 15 December. Voting will then take place and the election will close on 31 December at 23:59 UTC. Positions for Guild coordinators, who perform the important behind-the-scenes tasks that keep our project running smoothly, are open to all Wikipedians in good standing. We welcome self-nominations so please consider nominating yourself if you've ever thought about helping out; it's your Guild and it doesn't run itself! September Drive: Of the thirty-two editors who signed up, twenty-three editors copy edited at least one article; they completed 39 requests and removed 138 articles from the backlog, bringing the backlog to a low of 519 articles. October Blitz: This event ran from 13 to 19 October, with themes of science, technology and transport articles tagged for copy edit, and Requests. Sixteen editors helped remove 29 articles from the backlog and completed 23 requests. Hello, I just noticed that someone removed part of my edit about Adam Schiff, specifically where I listed that a certain congresswoman's reference to Benjamins meant Jews. Election results: There was little changeover in the roster of Guild Coordinators, with Miniapolis stepping down with distinction as a coordinator emeritus while Jonesey95 returned as lead coordinator. January Drive: Thanks to everyone for the splendid work, completing 215 copy edits including 56 articles from the Requests page and 116 backlog articles from the target months of June to August 2019. At the conclusion of the drive there was a record low of 323 articles in the copy editing backlog. Of the 27 editors who signed up for the drive, 21 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. February Blitz: Of the 15 editors who signed up for this one-week blitz, 13 completed at least one copy edit. A total of 32 articles were copy edited, evenly split between the twin goals of requests and the oldest articles from the copy-editing backlog. Full results are here. Current events Election time: Nomination of candidates in our mid-year Election of Coordinators opened on 1 June, and voting will take place from 00:01 on 16 June. GOCE coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. June Blitz: This blitz begins at 00:01 on 14 June and ends at 23:59 on 20 June, with themes of articles tagged for copyedit in May 2020 and requests. Drive and blitz reports March Drive: Self-isolation from coronavirus may have played a hand in making this one of our most successful backlog elimination drives. The copy-editing backlog was reduced from 477 to a record low of 118 articles, a 75% reduction. The last four months of 2019 were cleared, reducing the backlog to three months. Fifty requests were also completed, and the total word count of copy-edited articles was 759,945. Of the 29 editors who signed up, 22 completed at least one copy edit. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. April Blitz: This blitz ran from 12 to 18 April with a theme of Indian military history. Of the 18 people who signed up, 14 copyedited at least one article. Participants claimed a total of 60 copyedits. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. May Drive: This event marked the 10th anniversary of the GOCE's copy-editing drives, and set a goal of diminishing the backlog to just one month of articles, as close to zero articles as possible. We achieved the goal of eliminating all articles that had been tagged prior to the start of the drive, for the first time in our history! Other news Progress report: as of 2 June, GOCE participants had processed 328 requests since 1 January, which puts us on pace to exceed any previous year's number of requests. As of the end of the May drive, the backlog stood at just 156 articles, all tagged in May 2020. It is still in early stages of development and nowhere near complete, I need an experienced editor to help create the assessment for articles and categories and it needs loads more work. • I think we should keep the picture BECAUSE the charge of speciesism may refer to how (some/many) humans prefer some animals to others (and thus disadvantage those whom they do not prefer). For instance, 'Why do we love animals called pets and feed those pets the bodies of other animals whom we call 'pet food'?? Aren't many animals substantially equal or at least parallel in terms of their intentionality and will to continue living and to engage in social relationships 'with their own kind'? Dogs and cows; dogs and sheet; cats and fish; etc. Whentechnologies (such as plant-based meats) provide plant-based fully-nourishing foods for all companion and captive animals, won't photo like the cow-dog image become less politically volatile and more an expression of what 'the common sense' will have become? Suggesting moral parity between those who are companion animals (dogs, et al.) and those who are used for food is morally and existentially problematic for those who don't see an out, an escape, a resolution to the moral dilemmas that it illustrates. Hi MaynardClark,

Do you know anything about David L. Katz and his involvement with plant-based diets? He recently last year published a peer reviewed paper on plant based diets, but a user objects to including his article on the Vegan/Vegetarian WikiProject because reliable secondary sources do not describe him as an advocate of such diets. Dr. Katz spoke at the Ivy League Vegan Conference at Harvard a few years ago. I heard him along with Dr. Walter Willett. While Dr. Katz DOES say that 'plant-based meat is not a panacea' (I have been saying that for years to advocates who are funding it; IMO it would be irresponsible even to to claim that merely following a DIET that could be called 'vegan', even it were a GOOD vegan diet, would cure all health and ecological and social ills), he does on his very own website seem to be advocating or speaking on behalf of it. Simple searching the Internet for 'David Katz' and 'vegan' shows a number of articles (other than the ForksOverKnives.com site that cites him).

"Those content to avoid meat and eat plants all along have little need for the new wave of meat alternatives. But they have obvious appeal for people who like consuming meat but would prefer — always or sometimes — to avoid its liabilities: ethics and the treatment of our fellow creatures; environmental impact; and direct human health effects." A YouTube video of Dr. Katz is preceded by the statement: "The position of the Medical Executive Committee of SUNY Downstate Medical Center, as recommended by the Committee and Plant-based Health and Nutrition, is as follows: Plant-based nutrition – emphasizing consumption of vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, and fruits – can prevent, treat, or reverse certain chronic diseases in adults based on current best research evidence." But someone responded pejoratively to the video: "OK what's he getting at? Someone give me the Readers Digest version please. Is he vegan, vegetarian or carnivore?"

He says that attending a lecture like this is like preaching to the church that shows up in order to hear that message. I hope that begins to help, but is the climate argument for veganism a slam dunk? Not even EarthSave claimed that; EarthSave advocated 'the 10% solution' (one meatless day/week). Debates over effective altruism and argumentation is likely to suspend the wish for discernment and best guidance in everyone's (not everyman's) decision-making. Is consequentialism going to push us toward veganism (Singer didn't go there), or deontology (Tom Regan)? Katz argues for the guidance from the continuing research of epidemiology, and that plant-based or plant-centric directions will be the better guidance for all human life. A broad view, not a narrow view, is what he seeks in this 1:14:41 lecture. What ho! Go vegan! As I understand it Katz is an advocate of plant-based diets, not vegan. Usually this means a diet predominately based around plant foods with the occasional animal product thrown in, lets say 90% or more plants and 10% or less animal protein. Katz says veganism is too extreme, I have not seem him support it. T. Colin Campbell says he eats a "99% vegan" diet. Plant based is not quite vegan, its actually a form of semi-vegetarianism. 2007, so we came in at the tail-end of the Wikipedia Renaissance (a term I just made up, alluding to the large amount of quality articles added between 2005-2007). Just checked the categories for counterculture pages, and plant diets (yummmm, plants) are not, or no longer should be, labeled as counterculture. Seems to have become culturally approved as the diet became more economically beneficial for corporations. Looking at your info I kicked myself for not getting in touch with you before or during the Wikipedia North American Conference last year. Love your art museum, one of the world class art museums in the States, and ran around to see Harvard (the Fogg wasn't open, but those glass plants are exceptional) but missed the Kennedy Library. Peacefield and the other Adams' sites are other national treasures were worth the trip by themselves (biggest surprise, how "on the street" the two earlier Adams' homes are now. I expected a lot of land around them, so two treasures just sitting there surrounded by fast food joints and busy neighborhood streets). Would like to return sometime if just to have another day at the Fine Arts. Well, enough down memory lane. I may have a few more edits but am no longer as active in the vegetarian movement as you are (I tend to hit home runs every once in awhile and then bench myself), so, sincerely, thank you very much for your contributions to that field of dreams. Hi there, I noticed that your profile is listed in Category:Wikipedians by alma mater: Harvard University. By any chance do you have borrowing privileges at Harvard's libraries? I've been trying to get access to this obscure pamphlet by John Richard Clark Hall, and Widener Library appears to have the only copy in the US. I've also been unable to ILL it (even just a scan), and I won't be able to take a look in person for the foreseeable future. If you have borrowing privileges and would be willing to put in a "Scan & Deliver" request (ideally for a cover-to-cover scan, which should be easy enough since it is only 28 pages, and out of copyright), I would much appreciate it. No, and I don't like alt-meat, though I appreciate the rationales offered for alt-meat (reduce demand for animal agriculture, humane and ecological harms reductions, etc.). I strongly advocate for a whole foods/plant-based diet that does not use highly processed laboratory-involved foods. I do not have any income or even applause coming from Beyond Meat or its core competitors, Impossible Foods. What is notable is that so many meat producers are not committed to 'maintaining strength' in 'the alt-meat space' because they have mastered supply chains that target consumers who typically by meat and meat-based products. Besides, Ethan Brown has some competitors in the 'alt-meat leader' space - including Patrick O'Reilly Brown, who had come to my attention before I had learned of Ethan Brown (no known biological relation exists between them). My own curiosity about lab-grown meats is long-standing; Ethan Brown and Patrick Brown have indeed, as I estimate the emerging industry, led the industry to viability (as no one else had done before, including early researchers, some of whom have worked in research institutions, large and small (Medical University of South Carolina, Longwood Medical Area, large state universities, etc.). Their dedication to building the applied science of 'alt-meat' and developing industrial know-how to the point where they became commercially viable is a story that may not yet have been told in Wikipedia, though business journalists have been discussing it off and on during the past several years, and increasingly during the pandemic lockdowns, when consumer willingness to experiment with food choices may have increased, some seem to speculate. Hitler-fighter articles need help: Erhard Auer & Münchener Post

Erhard Auer was the Editor in Chief of the Münchener Post, it was shut down by Hitler in March 1933 immediately after he became the Reich Chancellor. Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party called the newspaper and its editors "Giftküche" (The Poison Kitchen) and "Münchener Pest ("Munich Pestilence" or "Munich Plague"). Hitler considered the paper one of his most vexing public adversaries, and the paper was the target of libel actions by the Nazi Party. The paper was one of the few early warning voices regarding the dangers posed by the rise of the Nazi Party, although their warnings went largely unheeded at the time. Auer was imprisoned in the Dachau concentration camp and died 20 March 1945. I Can't call them up sadly because I live in Europe but I am also interested in Rubin Abramowitz, I think he was born around 1885 [4] but I cannot find a death date. He was a Conscientious Objector [5] who was apparently imprisoned [6]. A lot of these early vegans were living a long time into their 90s. I found another interesting individual Pietro Rotondi (1891-1985) author of the book Vegetarian Cookery (1942). I wish more members of the WikiProject group would create pages. There are about 200 articles I plan on creating, it takes a long time to write most of the articles, you have to do all of the research about their lives and collection good sources. In the summer of (I think) 1978, at an NAVS Summer Vegetarian Conference (in Pennsylvania), I met Rubin Abramowitz, an enthusiastic vegan (who I think gave considerable money to vegan organizations, including AVS) and was a retired (I think I can recall) engineer, and a modestly tall, handsome (good looking), elderly (white-haired), clear-skinned illustration of the plant-based health message (which he enjoyed exemplifying in California). I also sadly recall learning that he had passed (because I asked each year whether or not he was still living). Why the hatred? IMO it is too bad that it stopped functioning during the coronavirus pandemic. The long (IMO illustrious and innovative, but not-highly-visible) history (and its relationship with the founder - who reportedly designed a national flag, served a prison sentence, and launched the career of Thom Hartmann was to vegetarians something of note (then it faded out of view (I believe that Rumney, New Hampshire location (horseback riding for special needs children) was closed some time ago. December 2021 GOCE Newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors December 2021 Newsletter Hello and welcome to the December GOCE newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since September 2021.                  Current and upcoming events Election time: Our end-of-year election of coordinators opened for nominations on 1 December and will close on 15 December at 23:59 (UTC). Voting opens at 00:01 the following day and will continue until 31 December at 23:59, just before "Auld Lang Syne". Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought of helping out at the Guild, or know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here. December Blitz: We have scheduled a week-long copy-editing blitz for 12 to 18 December. Sign up now! Drive and Blitz reports September Drive: Almost 400,000 words of articles were copy edited for this event. Of the 27 people who signed up, 21 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here. October Blitz: From 17 to 23 October, we copy edited articles tagged in May and June 2021 and requests. 8 participating editors completed 26 copy edits on the blitz. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. November Drive: Over 350,000 words of articles were copy edited for this event. Of the 21 people who signed up, 14 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here. Other news It is with great sadness that we report the death on 19 November of Twofingered Typist, who was active with the Guild almost daily for the past several years. His contributions long exceeded the thresholds for the Guild's highest awards, and he had a hand in innumerable good and featured article promotions as a willing collaborator. Twofingered Typist also served as a Guild coordinator from July 2019 to June 2021. He is sorely missed by the Wikipedia community. Progress report: As of 30 November, GOCE copyeditors have completed 619 requests in 2021 and there were 51 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog stood at 946 articles tagged for copy-editing (see monthly progress graph above). Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Invitation to take part in a survey about medical topics on Wikipedia

Dear fellow editor,

I am Piotr Konieczny, a sociologist of new media at Hanyang University (and User:Piotrus on Wikipedia). I would like to better understand Wikipedia's volunteers who edit medical topics, many associated with the WikiProject Medicine, and known to create some of the highest quality content on Wikipedia. I hope that the lessons I can learn from you that I will present to the academic audience will benefit both the WikiProject Medicine (improving your understanding of yourself and helping to promote it and attract new volunteers) and the wider world of medical volunteering and academia. Open access copy of the resulting research will be made available at WikiProject's Medicine upon the completion of the project.

All questions are optional. The survey is divided into 4 parts: 1 - Brief description of yourself; 2 - Questions about your volunteering; 3 - Questions about WikiProject Medicine and 4 - Questions about Wikipedia's coverage of medical topics.
