Ian Meckiff edit

Hey Matt - if you have the time, could you possibly take a look at my GA review at Talk:Ian_Meckiff#GA_on_hold, and give some feedback on if the review is OK for a cricket GA (since this is my first review in that area). Also, does the area meet criterion 3? Cheers, Dihydrogen Monoxide (party) 06:56, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your support, my request for adminship passed 60/0/0 yesterday!

I want to thank Mrs.EasterBunny and Royalbroil for nominating me, those who updated the RfA tally, and everyone for their support and many kind words. To paraphrase a president ... I will do my best to use the new tools carefully and responsibly (and you may be surprised to find that I have not deleted all of the pages by accident..... yet).

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:RockbankFCLogo.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:RockbankFCLogo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:19, 24 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Greenwood Cricket Club edit

What's the deal with stepping in and wanting our club page deleted...it's just utter b.s that you would consider it just for fun or "unnotable'....95% of articles on Wiki are unnotable. It's just sad that on a site that is meant for people to put information about what is near and dear to them on the world wide web, that someone like yourself and the others...would deem it not worthy of a Wiki page. Good on you buddy, Wiki is free from a lower grade cricket club, but still full of fictional facts about g-Grade celebrities. Email me at (email address removed as a courtesy), i'd love to chat

Juan Núñez de Lara edit

Hello, I was the one who nominated for speedy deletion the Juan Núñez de Lara article. I understand it does not need deleting, but I don't know how to fix it, then. The problem is that I don't know why the article redirects to Lara. That's wrong, but I don't know what to write. That's why I tried to delete it. Can you come up with a solution? --PeterCantropus (talk) 02:19, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

No, I don't want to write an article about him (it's not that I don't want to, I just wouldn't know how). I just want to delete de redirect, because I think if you type "Juan Núñez de Lara" you shouldn't end up in the Lara article. I want to delete the redirect, but because I can't replace it with an article, that's why I wanted to delete the article. --PeterCantropus (talk) 00:27, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think everyone is tired of the whole affair (I know I am) and the (real world) resolution was reasonably predictable a long way out. With any luck, the article may be stable enough in time to see about a GA nomination. There is now an article on the Big Six cricket dispute of 1912. Hi!

That "db-talk" applies to articles tagged for a speedy as well. I've run across a lot of orphaned talk pages after I've tagged the original for deletion. Haunted Ratings deletion edit

(Mkj44 (talk) 18:51, 1 February 2008 (UTC)) You deleted my article on Haunted Ratings because you felt it was 'blantant advertising' and yet Haunted Denver is exactly the same type of site and it goes unchallenged. I have worked in the Haunted House industry for 15 years and spent most of them as a 'monster' at a Haunted House. Before Haunted Ratings came on the scene no one knew who the 'monsters' were. Haunted Ratings offered a Haunted Gallery on their sight that changed all of that. Before Haunted Ratings came on the scene they wasn't one place in Denver where all Horror fans could go to get tickets to movie screenings. Now all that has changed. They are involved with the community through Food Drives and have interesting articles on the history of haunted places in Denver. Please reconsider undeleting them or tell me what I need to do to make the article appear less like an advertisement. Thank you for your time.Reply

Order of sports edit

For the Barassi Line article I just reordered the cities according to seniority, I thought that was common? In the Wagga article I simply moved the ARF discussion from first to third to reflect its popularity in the town. Bongomanrae (talk) 11:03, 11 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

No problems. I had also removed that paragraph in the Barassi Line article because I didn't really understand what it was getting at. It probably deserves to stay but I just didn't think it was necessary to say that Barassi's prediction had come true because two of sixteen teams were on the 'other' side of the Barassi Line. Then again that was the first time I had ever heard of the Barassi Line (thank you once again Wikipedia :) ) so maybe I'm missing something. Bongomanrae (talk) 11:24, 11 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah that's a bad habit of mine unfortunately. My settings are made to mark all of my edits as minor by default, as I seem to do a lot of fiddly fixes. Sometime I just forget to untick the box before submitting major changes. Bongomanrae (talk) 11:32, 11 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, perhaps I should chase someone down. It's not much of a problem for me to simply revert it though. Also, I'm pretty sure their fiddling with his height and weight (which was from swimming australia) are wrong. There's no way he could be 182cm and 89kg. That's way fat for an elite swimmer. Ian Thorpe even when he went into is fully bulked up mode, he was 196cm and 105kg, when he was the more standard shape he was 96kg. Eamon Sullivan edit

Thanks for your deciding to discuss the issue;

If there is any Copyvio sentence in a text, generaly the sentence itself must be edited or replaced, not the whole page as it turns the matter to a personal issue and causes edit combats that nobody likes.

I strongly believe that the most recent edit (not the earlier edits) doesn't have any indication of Copyvio cz there is no sentence similar to other webpages. However, if you believe there is any, I would appriciate to edit that or let me know and I will do it.

If you have a look at the history of edits you'll notice that literally, there are only two versions of the article, the one that Blnguyen submitted and the one that I did (It's not mine, only to identify the version). I have used Blnguyen's information in a quite friendly way, like the medals info and height and weight (however weight needs more research), in fact I have used all the correct info from that version as it also has false info, like;

"finishing only 0.01 s behind the two gold medalists, who dead heated." Where as it was 0.04s behind.

also at some stage it is not clear enough as a source of info, like;

"He collected a world championship gold in the medley relay as the anchor swimmer..." is it 100m or 50m? As FINA World Championsips could be short course as well. also he is introduced a freestyle swimmer, where as he does fly too even though he's got no important medal on it.

I don't wanna scrutinize it, this is just normal.

As I said there is no info in that version that I haven't used. Once again if you see any sign of copyvio, js let me know!

Cyrusace

Hey, thanks for your help.

I'll definitely have a read. All I thought was that if the references are mentioned, that would make the article sourcefull and no need for citation (tell me if I'm wrong).

The initial section of article is mostly my own info because I am an official of swimmingNSW and I was there at Feb 08 NSW Championships... The Career section could be checked with "swimmingaustralia" website that is mentioned as a ref... And the third part that contains some quotes that I know wouldn't be really necessary to be there.

I understand that I have put a bit too much passion in writting that, I'll promise that I will cut some of that media kind of enthusiasm of the article and submit it again, and you tell me your opinion about it.

You voted for Gundagai, New South Wales for Australian collaboration of the fortnight. It has been selected, so you might like to help to improve the article. Thanks. --Scott Davis Talk 09:27, 9 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Joe Darling GA Review edit

Hello, I am performing the Good Article review for this article. The quick-fail criteria do not apply, so I am proceeding with the review. So far, I am finished to the end of the "Captaincy" subsection, and I will try my best to complete the review today. In the meantime, I have posted my (relatively minor) concerns on the article's talk page. If you have a chance, feel free to fix these whenever you want (if you have time now, there is no need to wait until the end). If not, they will be included in my comments when I post my review. If you fix any of them, please indicate which ones you have addressed on the talk page by either striking out the text like so or using a   Done check. Thank you, GaryColemanFan (talk) 19:59, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have completed the review. It is very close to passing, and I have identified four minor things that I would like clarified before passing the article. You've done a great job. GaryColemanFan (talk) 23:29, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Virtual Steve helped me out with my understanding of the article, and I have passed it. Good job. As I mention in the review, it would be nice if it was more focused on Joe Darling and less on his teammates in some places. In addition, more clarification on what 5/48 and 6/219 mean would help, as would the mention of the XV at the beginning of the "Early life and career" section. Overall, I found the article much easier to understand than I thought a cricket article would be, but there are a few places where it seems to assume some background knowledge. At any rate, I feel that it is good enough to be listed as a GA and that my other suggestions are things to focus on if you plan to nominate it as an FA. I hope this helps, and please get in touch if you have any questions or concerns. And finally, I am reviewing articles in an effort to cut down on the backlog in the "Sports and recreation" list. If you or anyone from WikiProject Cricket is able to review an article or two from this list, it would be very helpful. Thanks, GaryColemanFan (talk) 00:06, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
And to clarify, I'm not asking for that in the hope of finding a reviewer for any of my articles. Any reviews from the "Sports and recreation" list would be great. GaryColemanFan (talk) 00:07, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ricky Ponting edit

Morning - I saw that you had reverted some edits to Ricky Ponting but the version you reverted to was still vandalised. I don't know how to do further reverts. Could you please make the changes and if you've got time, let me know how to revert more than one version. Thanks in anticipation. Jonesy (talk) 21:32, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

NX Zero edit

Hi there,

Thank you so much for your speedy reply! Every time I return from a WP break, I'm always struck by how helpful everyone here is. I'll work on the article as you suggested, and then message yourself or Virtual Steve once I mend it.

Thanks again, -GilbertoSilvaFan (talk) 11:20, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi there. I've just made a few improvements to the NX Zero article on my userspace at User:GilbertoSilvaFan/NX_Zero. Can I re-create the article myself, or must it be done by an administrator? I guess I could try it myself, but since you asked me to come to you or VS once I had made my changes, I'll just do that instead :-) Thanks again, and do let me know if the changes I made aren't enough to have the article exist. (I realise that this may be the case.) -GilbertoSilvaFan (talk) 13:58, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Townsville/Thuringowa, Queensland edit

Hi Matt, thanks for your concern but TCR does recognise that these pages need to be updated to reflect the present and not the past, I don't think it will be controversial to change this (and many many) pages to reflect the name change. Cheers, WikiTownsvillian 11:35, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • As long as you allow Thuringowa to have some room for the history we wont have any probs......oh and please don't talk about me like im not here...Matt...thanksThuringowacityrep (talk) 05:51, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
You are right of course, I apologise. -- Mattinbgn\talk 06:01, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks :) edit

The worst part is the government seem to have gone crazy deleting websites. I did a rush run on all of the remaining ones last night grabbing logos, the rationale PDFs however are gone off the strongercouncils website, as is the amalgamation list (thankfully I grabbed that in text form on Saturday morning before going to an all day course). As one of my friends said, these councils have been around for 100 years plus, it's hardly going to kill them to leave the info up an extra day. I'm hoping to do what I've done with Victoria to the now former LGAs but it's going to be difficult as I don't have the refs I do for Victoria (I'm relying on the State Archives website and where possible the councils' own websites). slocking Harbhajan edit

An admin action of yours was mentioned in Indian newspapers :) [3]. Unfortunately my attempts to get the journalist to talk about the Cricket FA program didn't work too well. He found the vandalism more interesting. Even after I told him the Times of India use our work! Blnguyen (vote in the photo straw poll) 07:29, 20 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

If we can get Tallon and Silverchair done up soon, then, 8 FAs for the month. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:21, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think you're experienced enough by now to simply get stuck straight into FA... I'm not sure the GA queues for six weeks are worth it. For content issues, simply talk to walking Wisdens like Tintin.....I think the direct route might be better for experienced people because they don't have to wait a long time for an assessment and then forget about the fine details of the article... as I have now forgotten...Blnguyen (bananabucket) 07:53, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, the GA delay can be painful and unproductive but it seems as if there has been an effort to get through the backlog at present. At least at GA you get a response (and often someone from a non-cricket background) whereas I have never had any luck at WP:PR. Warwick Armstrong, now at WP:LOCE and awaiting an attempt at FA had zero response. But you are right, with Armstrong I would need to go back to the books to remember where I was coming from when I wrote what I wrote! Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 08:16, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I might canvass you to review Don Tallon, since you did the lead up a bit... Blnguyen (vote in the photo straw poll) 06:46, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
