2010 photos of cyclists edit

Did you get any good photos of pro road racers at recent events? If you are able to contribute your images under a free license, I hope that portraits or action shots would help Commons coverage of the 2010 season. --InfantGorilla (talk) 22:25, 5 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Assistance needed in deleting a section edit

I came here via the list of highly active users. I have a question about deleting a section, rather than an article. I want to be sure to go about it the correct way. I have posted a proposal comment on the talk page at Human trafficking. However, I would like to know if there is a specific procedure to flag or something like that. Many questions and comments on the talk page are very old and lack a response. I don't want to arbitrarily delete the section without consensus. I have nothing against the NGOs listed, my goal is simply to improve the article according to the guidelines established by Wikipedia. Thank you. Cindamuse (talk) 01:20, 7 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks so much for your reply. I think I'll just follow the advice and edit accordingly. I appreciate your response and help. Cindamuse (talk) 23:39, 8 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Did you forget to add a license tag for this image when uploading.?

Wikipedia takes copyrights seriously, so images need to have an appropriate license tag

You may wish to read Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tags#For_image_creators which will assist you :) Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:31, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

No, I didn't forget. I just didn't decide which one! :) Matthewedwards :  Chat  19:00, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Buffy, the muscial edit

Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Once More, with Feeling (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)/archive1- I know you're waiting on an image review- so am I, to be honest- but I think I've just responded to the last concern of yours that I can. As to the image you were concerned about, I'm thinking it might be croppable to get rid of the screenshot, if necessary. I'll work on that tomorrow. Courcelles (talk) 04:08, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

ETA: Removed the image- apparently I was quite wrong. Courcelles (talk) 17:11, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

D:TNG edit

Heads up for what may be happening in the near future. According to this article that was just referenced on the season 10 article, "Degrassi: The Next Generation", is being renamed to simply "Degrassi". This may cause some problems on Degrassi project pages, because it has previously meant the franchise. 117Avenue (talk) 04:18, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Shouldn't be too much of a problem. Degrassi should be moved to Degrassi franchise (similar to how we have articles on Law & Order and the Law & Order franchise), and then fix any links that point to Degrassi to redirect them to the new page. Then we can move Degrassi: The Next Generation to Degrassi. But we have to make sure that all the articles that currently point to Degrassi are fixed first. I'm inclined to leave articles such as Degrassi: The Next Generation (season 3) because they have never been officially known as "Degrassi (season 3). The CTV article seems to indicate that the name change isn't retroactive. Matthewedwards :  Chat  22:43, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Well, first I was going to wait until I saw Monday's episode to confirm. But I've some time to think about it since I posted here. I don't think anything will have to be moved except for season 10; "Degrassi: The Next Generation" should stay where it is, because it operated under that name for nine years. I often think of the articles I work on as "future history", because many of Wikipedia's articles are on past events (or in this case a TV show), I ask the question, "if this was being written as history, in the future, how would it be written?" And the answer here is, under the name that it used for most of its run. Thoughts? 117Avenue (talk) 22:53, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I would disagree, personally. The fact is that as of Monday, "Degrassi: The Next Generation" no longer exists, but "Degrassi" will. WP:COMMONNAME says that we should use the most common English language title, and that implies that technically, we could have been using Degrassi already. It also says, "if an organization changes its name, it is reasonable to consider the usage since the change." I'd like to get more input on this, perhaps from the folks at WT:TV, so that we're not seen as Wiktators of Degrassi pages. Matthewedwards :  Chat  23:06, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sigh, I suppose you're right. But in my opinion, COMMONNAME is great for some things, but when an article is written on an organization that existed before Wikipedia, the longest used, and thus common, name is used. 117Avenue (talk) 23:21, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Already Gone edit

Hi, thanks for working on this interesting article. Perhaps there will be more participation in the FAC in a few months or whenever/if you decide to renominate it. Best wishes Hekerui (talk) 15:11, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you :) I don't know what else I can do to improve the article. It's just one of those pop culture things that people don't pay much attention to at FAC. I'm going to take it through peer review one more time before I renom it at FAC. If it fails a second time I'm not going to bother for a third. Matthewedwards :  Chat  22:33, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'm going to nominate The Boys from Baghdad High at FAC now. :) Matthewedwards :  Chat  23:08, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Degrassi edit

I'd like to go ahead with the move of "Degrassi". You suggested "Degrassi franchise", but Law & Order puts "franchise" in parenthesis, which is the correct naming convention? 117Avenue (talk) 03:34, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I would do it with parentheses like any other disambig-titled article. Are you an admin? If not, let me know if you come across any problems and need pages deleting to make way for moves, or need histories merged etc and I'll do it. Best, Matthewedwards :  Chat  15:15, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
No, I'm not an adimin yet, but I don't need to be for what I want to do. "Degrassi: The Next Generation" is move protected, but I don't think it should be moved anyways. 117Avenue (talk) 18:44, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Re: The logo. I think that it should be mentioned somewhere on the article that the logo needed to be revised in the title sequence (where the official title is shown) for the name change. I'm just not sure if the image meets FUR to be included on Degrassi: The Next Generation, nor do I have svg software to draw a logo separate from the background. 117Avenue (talk) 22:12, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Unless it's been discussed in a RS, the fact that the logo changed is trivial and shouldn't be mentioned. Having not seen the new logo, I have no clue as to whether it is Fair Use or Free. If it is just typeface, it is free. The image we currently have would be free were it not for the school badge. I have svg software though. Matthewedwards :  Chat  22:21, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I see that you uploaded the first one. Can you take a look at Degrassi (season 10) or http://www.muchmusic.com/tv/degrassi/ to make a new one? I'd also like a copy of the badge for Degrassi Community School, but I don't know where to get one, to figure out the motto I had to painstakingly go through a clip in Degrassi Takes Manhattan frame by frame. 117Avenue (talk) 22:29, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
And now I feel like an idiot, because I just watched the scene again, and there is close up at a different spot, I didn't need to watch that other part slowly. 117Avenue (talk) 22:44, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I couldn't find the logo at the official site. It's pretty poorly designed compared to the CTV one. I don't think the school badge would meet WP:NFCC#8 and others if we used it on the page for the school. It doesn't help the reader understand the article any better, it would just be used for decoration. From the screengrab on the season 10 article, the new logo looks the same as the old, except that the words "The Next Generation" have been removed. It might be possible to download an image and delete the school badge so we just have the word "Degrassi". It would be Public Domain, but it also wouldn't be the true logo. I'm inclined to leave the image alone for now and see whether it continues to be known as "Degrassi" in season 11, especially as we're not moving the article. Matthewedwards :  Chat  14:42, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
That all makes sense. The only problem with getting a picture of the facade, is that its on private property, and I don't have any plans on going to Toronto and try to get it legally. 117Avenue (talk) 18:59, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Also, File:Degrassi-10_logo.jpg needs to be resized. As a Fair Use image, it should be no larger than 300 pixels along its largest edge. Matthewedwards :  Chat  14:43, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

L2 PCP edit

Have you reviewed the criteria for applying level two pending changes? I don't think this is appropriate for Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians (it would mean autoconfirmed users without the reviewer privilege could not edit the page with immediate effect). –xenotalk 21:57, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well at first I was going to protect it but decided to go with pending changes. I selected level 1, I thought. Matthewedwards :  Chat  21:59, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I think indef-semi would've been fine as well - your rationale was spot on. [Keep an eye that you don't inadvertantly lower move-prot though] –xenotalk 22:00, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
It appears I did do level 2 by accident. What do you think would be better? Semi or L1 PC? It was my intention to still allow them to edit it, because I thought it might be possible that unregistered family members might want to make changes. Matthewedwards :  Chat  22:04, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
An excellent point. I wouldn't object to either. –xenotalk 22:05, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
OK, I'll fix it to go to what I originally intended, L1 PC. Thanks for fixing the move protect, I probably wouldn't have caught that error either. :/ Matthewedwards :  Chat  22:06, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Oh. I just noticed the big yellow box on the pretection page: The pending changes trial has begun. You will see the new protection options in main and Wikipedia space. No page in Wikipedia namespace should be protected under pending changes except those for testing. Matthewedwards :  Chat  22:08, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Well-spotted, I had forgot about that. –xenotalk 14:50, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Done. What a mess I made of it. Matthewedwards :  Chat  22:16, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

lol, don't sweat it. –xenotalk 14:50, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

List of tallest buildings in Newark edit

If you have time and interest would be great if you would the above article some attention. I've tried to create links to occupants and national register sites and bits of info here and there but its unwieldly. Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Djflem (talkcontribs) 2:12 pm, 25 July 2010

WikiCup 2010 July newsletter edit

We are half-way through our penultimate round, and nothing is yet certain. Pool A, currently led by   Sasata (submissions) has ended up the more competitive, with three contestants (  Sasata (submissions),   Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) and   TonyTheTiger (submissions)) scoring over 500 points already. Pool B is led by   Casliber (submissions), who has also scored well over 500. The top two from each pool, as well as the next four highest scorers regardless of pool, will make it through to our final eight. As ever, anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Planning has begun for the 2011 WikiCup, with open discussions concerning scoring and flags for next year's competition. Contributions to those discussions would be appreciated, especially concerning the flags, as next year's signups cannot begin until the flag issue has been resolved. Signups will hopefully open at some point in this round, with discussion about possible changing in the scoring/process opening some time afterwards.

Earlier this round, we said goodbye to   Hunter Kahn (submissions), who has bowed out to spend more time on the book he is authoring with his wife. We wish him all the best. In other news, the start of this round also saw some WikiCup awards sent out by   Suomi Finland 2009 (submissions). We appreciate his enthusiasm, and contestants are of course welcome to award each other prizes as they see fit, but rest assured that we will be sending out "official" awards at the end of the competition. If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
