Extra cruft left behind after substing

The original version was leaving behind a lot of conditional expressions in the wikicode. I asked a question about this at Help talk:Substitution and received help. It has to do with recursive substitution. Mathglot (talk) 07:40, 31 May 2017 (UTC)

1. Add this html comment inline in the generated article links in the template (this should be an easy mod):

2. Include in the instructions a cut/pasteable {{ping}} invocation in code style, for those not familiar. Can we stuff our own username into a ping via some Magic word?
